I had the surgery in 2004 and until recently I never had any really big issues, one unfill in that whole time with a smaller fill.  I successfully lost 90#'s before surgery over months but stopped losing anything so I opted for the surgery.  I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in May 2008.  I had sugery on May 27th, 2008, removal of the entire thyroid.  Subsequently I had treatment with radioactive iodine in July.  I became weak, lethargic, and couldn't do more than eat, go to the bathroom and sleep with sleep being foremost in my live.  I also became fuzzy headed unable to think clearly or make decisions.  Once my thyroid meds were finally adjusted to optimum I got my strength back, etc.  I also gained 30#!  In April I had abnormal results in my CBC, hemoglobin and hematocrit were low, my whte count elevated and my platelets were more than doubled.  The next month they were a little worse.  I ended up having an upper GI and a lower with irritation to the stomach lining and a lot of undigested food above the band, they took a biopsy of the stomach wall and in the colon, diverticulitis.  The biopsy results were a bacterial infection in the stomach wall.  I am now on Tetracycline, Biaxin, and Previced for 14 days.  I have MASSIVE GAS AND PAIN AND AM TOTALLY MISERABLE!!!!!!  I think I need the band removed because if the undigested food is there over any period   am at risk for reinfection.  I  have called my doctor and he is out of the country but his associate was to call me back last week but hasn't.  I am calling in the am for guidence.
