Just NOT seeing it!!!
36lb loss is a great loss, and while you may not see it yet, it's great others are complimenting you. I liken the mind catching up to the loss like the mind catching up to your hunger. As we know, it takes 20 mins for the mind to register you're full. It takes a lot longer for your mind to register the weight loss, but hang in there... it will happen

December 2009 Bandsters
I'm sure that I am probably ahead of time, but I thought I would start scanning for others who have a surgery date in December this year. My surgery date is December 4th, 2009. :smile2: I'm extremely excited and very afraid. I'm lucky to have a lot of supportive people around me. I think it will be interesting to find out what foods I can/can't eat. Can't wait to start dropping the sizes. I'm so very glad I have air conditioning at my flat considering it will be Summer when I have it done. I'll be eating baby food at Christmas, but oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do. Let me know how you other December bandsters are feeling

Proud or Ashamed?
I think you should be extremely proud about achieving the loss you have! While the past is the past, I think it is good to remember where you came from because that is part of what helps shape the person you are today. I don't believe that people should hide the person they were away simply because they are ashamed of who that person was. The person that you were decided to become the person you are today... give them credit where it's worth. That person may have been unhappy and over-induldged and made some bad decisions, but so does everyone whether they are skinny or not. People that are at their goal weight or close to should be able to share their story with others they wish too without any embarrassment. WE chose to help ourselves, WE get the credit! Our stories may help others to take a step in the right direction like we have :smile2:

Lost Too Much Weight
No worries! I wish you luck with your future appointments and I think if you can prove your history, you will be fine. Talk through your concerns with your surgeon and tell him how it's making you feel about the possibility of not being able to get the band. I sympathise with you as I thought I may not be able to get the band due to not having any co-morbidities. Due to anxiety issues, I am also on anti-depressants and I can only imagine the worry you are feeling now. I think you have done a great job losing the weight that you have. I am sure there are many people that have done the same as you and ended up being banded. Try not to stress too much

Lost Too Much Weight
Umystifyme, I would highly recommend that you talk to your surgeon, (and gp, if necessary) about proving your history before you try anything else. To be honest Jollygreen, i feel this is a very negative recommendation and could end up having more ramifications for Umystifyme than needed. What if her surgeon doesn't just take it that she is desperate to have the band? Saying that you have taken diuretics and been throwing up is a lot more serious than purposely not losing weight to get the band. What if they think she isn't in the right mental state to have the band?

Any Regrets After Lap Band?
Because you're body is healing from the operation, most patients are on a predominantly liquid diet for two weeks after their operation. Following the 2 week liquid diet, you have a two week diet of vitamised food (processed mushy food). Also from what people have said, even though you have not had a 'fill' you still feel restriction. After the operation, patients are advised to walk a bit to relieve the gas also. I believe all these things help you to lose an amount of weight post operation before your fill. Hope this helps

Surgery Date December 4, 2009
Hello Everyone, I believe I may have experienced almost the best day in my life so far. I have been accepted for lap band surgery and I have a date which the surgery will take place. Since I decided I definately wanted to have the surgery a couple of months back, I must have subconsciously been holding my breath in because today I feel like i've started breathing again. The relief is indescribable. While I thought the probability of me not being accepted was small, I was still quite worried. One thing I contemplated is that I will be completing the mushy food stage over Christmas. While this doesn't worry me, I do find it hilarious. It will be funny to see my family's reaction. They are all SUPER supportive, but it will still be funny. While the surgery date is still a little while off, I am happy because it gives me some more time to read up on other's stories and become mentally prepared. I'm hoping to bypass the stage of grieving food. We have our wedding in October, 2010 people, I DO NOT have time to grieve something that has helped cause me to be the person I am today! Now i've updated, i'm off to finish preparing dinner. Curried chicken and rice. YUM

*For people that read this allow me to explain that when I snapped and stopped work and gym I started something else again. Eating. That unfortunately didn't slow down and I put on 15kgs (33lbs) before I realised and then it kept climbing to where it is now 106kgs (233.2lbs). Sorry missed that tid bit of info in the blog!

First post of many.... My Journey
After reading some other users blogs, I thought I would post my own. I haven't been banded yet and have my first appointment with the surgeon 3rd August (which I can't wait for). However, I thought I would post how I'm feeling and about the little that has happened so far. Here goes... I have almost always been overweight. Even though my Mum tried really hard to get me to eat healthy and exercise. I would try hard for a bit and then burn out and the cycle would continue. After a breakup with my first serious boyfriend I weighed 90-95kgs (198-209lbs), I started going to weight watchers and lost around 25-30kgs (55-66lbs). When I reached the 75kg (165lb) mark I went a bit loopy and stopped eating much at all and exercising like a mad woman, I was having a tough time at work and troubles with hormones and I snapped. I had some time off work, time off exercise and started making myself better. I can't describe how weird it is to realise that I went from over-eating to not eating in such a short amount of time. My brain hadn't quite registered the loss and I still believed myself to be as fat as I was (maybe a couple of kgs less). What made me realise how much weight I had lost was trying on dresses for my mum's wedding. I was pulling size 16-18 dresses of the rack- I ended up purchasing a size 12 dress, which had to be TAKEN IN! That was an achievement I first heard about the lapband a little over 12 months ago. After hearing about it, I organised to go to a information session the local specialist holds. The information session was fantastic, there was a man there that had been banded and lost a large amount of weight. I got an folder with lots of info and left the session thinking this is the right tool for me. However, when I discussed it with my friends and fiance I had half saying 'good for you' and the other half saying 'really?!' with their eyebrows turned up suspiciously. So, after some more thought, I decided to try gym and healthy eating again and if that didn't work, (which it didn't), I'd try and organise lapband. I have tried weight watchers, healthy diet and exercise, shake diets, meal replacement diets, no carb diets, fat free diets, whatever I thought might work. Well I'm tired of what MIGHT work and ready for what I believe WILL work. I'm ready to do this for ME. I want to be as healthy as I can and live a life as long as I can. I want to have confidence in myself again. I want to feel sexy again. I want to be able to go into a store and buy items off the shelf again. I want to go to the beach again. I want to be able to exercise without feeling like the grim reaper is standing beside me grinning. I want to be able to wear lingerie (my brain stops me at the moment). I want to be able to go places and not feel like harpoons are going to be targeted at me anymore. I NEED TO DO THIS FOR ME For those that read this, hopefully you're not asleep drooling on the keyboard.

Can't Wait To Get My Band!!
I know what you mean about not being able to wait until you get your band. I have been considering the surgery for about 1.5-2 years and finally decided to work towards being banded last month. It's like I've got ants in my pants, so excited! I'm hoping to be banded by December this year. I have to wait for the insurance, (I haven't been with them for 12 months yet).

If you are early in your LapBand journey....
Apart from fashionable clothes in general- being able to purchase bras and singlets with spaghetti straps. I absolutely hate having to try and hide those huge ugly straps. Beach wear- and in fact feeling good about going to the beach. I love swimming! Pants that aren't elasticised-YEAH! Being able to wear sexy things for my fiance and not feel like a whale. Not feeling like a whale in general would be nice actually. Not having people look at you with that look- you know what i'm talking about people. People who haven't had to try and lose a substantial amount of weight just don't understand dammit. Feeling like i'm living the most healthy and long life i can. :mad2:
