  1. It will change - French fries are difficult for a lot of people. While I had restriction - potato products were the only thing that gave me trouble.

Your tastes for foods def. change. First off, some foods just don't taste good if you chew them 1000 times.

I, even being restricted, loved the food I ate, it tasted wonderful, I just got full so fast. You are swollen and healing and your stomach is rebelling. Being on liquids and such for a while will help that.

I am feeling for you - I hate TDYs. I don't know how you are so strong. When Eddie would leave, I would cry for days. In Sept of 2001, he left for Egypt - we had just moved on base, I knew no one, I cried for 3 days, then 911 hit and the satelite link at the Pentagon went down, we lost all communication for weeks - and of course, we were just the wives, so no one told us anything but your hubby is accounted for. I called my mom, bawling, told her I wanted to come home - her response (Army wife of 21 years). You need to grow up, calm down and get involved in your area! My response, (threw tears) I wanna talk to my Daddy! lol. He consoled me and told me it would get better . . . they totally reversed roles for that time period.

The stress of your hubby leaving also has you tighter - so remember that for a week or so.

It will get better - and if you ever want to talk deployment depression - you know how to reach me!

  2. It was great while it lasted, almost a week! Since I canceled my Fill this week, my next one is July 9th. It seems really far away. But, I am resolved to workout more. I already go to the gym for 45 minutes a day 6-7 days a week. So, I figure I will try to increase that to an hour and half. Since I have such a hard time restricting myself to lower calories, I figure I will workout more.

The strange thing, I have never exercised in my entire life. I had childhood asthma really bad and couldn't jog for 10 feet. I also had severe sleep apnea, to the point I had a 5 hour surgery to correct it at 18. I was one of the rare cases that had Sleep Apnea at age 5.

The thought of exercising was always a joke to me. I didn't want to do it and I couldn't do it. So it never was an option. Now, I go, I work my butt off and I feel better. Don't get me wrong - I am counting down each minute while I am there . . . "come on Wendy, 1 more minute at this speed, then you can slow down some, only 2 minutes going backwards, then you can go forward . . . just a little more" Now, I don't know if that will ever go away or if that is how I will always feel about exercising, but either way, I will continue and feel better about myself for going.

Now if I can just get some help with food. I have a bodybugg and I count each and every calorie. I eat way too much 1200-1600 calories a day, but without restriction, this is just a diet . . . a diet I have been on for 4 months . . . a diet where I am still hungry when I eat the small Lapband amount . . . a diet where I feel deprived . . . a diet that I can't do for the rest of my life. So, my 1200 calorie limit gets thrown out the door and I usually hit 1500 a day. I still feel deprived on that. I guess eating 3500 calories a day for most of my life has taken its toll on my brain.

I won't let myself go crazy, I will keep it around this calorie limit until I get restriction. The week I had restriction - I had no problem keeping it below 1200. Ahh, what bliss.

12 more days till my fill.

  3. Girl, I am with you on that. Tricare was super fast, but my Dr.s office took for ever! I called every day to see if it had been faxed, then I would call Tricare to see if they had received it - if they hadn't, I called the Dr.s office back and asked them to refax. Finally it worked. ugh, I hope yours goes quicker than mine. (Though once Tricare got it, it was approved same day)

  4. When I get worried that I am not losing very much weight, losing too slow, or that I can't see a difference in the mirror, I get dressed in an outfit that I couldn't wear a few months ago. Take a few pictures and compare. It really helps to see them side by side to see a difference. I encourage EVERYONE to take lots of pictures before banding so that you have great pics to compare with.

Take pictures every few weeks. It is kinda like a picture journal.

Some of these pictures are just 1 good picture of me and a bunch of fat pics. That way I could sit at the computer and just stare at the old ones and compare each one to the new one.

  5. Go to the one you love. It will be worth it in the long run. A lot of Dr.s push Bypass - they make more money, and they don't have to rely on you to lose weight. They can make you lose weight with bypass. I drive about an hour and 15 minutes (in Houston traffic, sometimes 2-3 hours) to my Dr.s office. Once you have surgery you will only need to go for maintenance. You could even get a fill Dr. close - maybe the one you are not fond of :-)

  6. Okay, so today I decided to dye my hair really dark. My mom has given me an incentive to lose weight, when I first got the band, she said when I lost 50lbs, she would take me to my favorite salon, have my hair cut, dyed and styled on one condition. That I go blonde. Who can turn down a 200$ hair change? I know I sure can't. I absolutely love to have my hair done. So, I decided since I still have 23lbs to go, I would go really dark for now, so the contrast is greater.

I am including 2 pictures, one where you can see the reddish/purplish color and 1 just because I think it makes me look skinnier!

I will admit ahead of time, I took 35 pictures of my hair to get 2 that I felt okay with to post. I have a LOT of time on my hands.

  7. Thank you! I am pretty excited, I still have it. I canceled my Fill for tomorrow and rescheduled it for July 9th, just in case it doesn't last. I am a little scared because my worst time to eat is supper and in the evening and I have no restriction then, but I have been making myself slow down and eat smaller amounts. Just the fact that I am eating 1/3 for lunch of what I used to has to help!

  8. Thank you! I love the idea that someone reads my Blog. I will take some pics tonight and try to post tomorrow. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. What an exciting time! Take lots of before pictures - when you start losing, you can see it so much better in pictures.

  9. Well, as those that follow my blog know, I have had fill after fill and no restriction. My last fill was May 29th and nothing. UNTIL . . . last Friday. Normally, I feel a little restriction first thing in the morning, not enough to stop me from eating, but some. Then nada the rest of the day. So, normal day, I had spicy V-8 juice for breakfast, went to the gym with a friend. Afterwards we decided to go for Mexican Food. So, I ordered Grilled Chicken Nachos. Now, a week ago, I could have eaten the entire plate and would have eaten 1/2-3/4 the plate (showing some restraint

;-). I ate maybe 4 bites and felt stuffed. At first it scared me, I was like, uh-oh, I must have taken too big a bite, but nope. I was just really full.

I kept thinking it was probably a fluke. That evening, I could eat almost like normal, but a little bit of restriction.

Day 2 - Saturday. We had a birthday party for my Godson (he is 2 and too freakin cute). We had hotdogs, chips and cake. So, I ate some Cheetos while the hot dogs were cooking. Got my hot dog, sat down, took 3 bites BAM, I was full! It was awesome. However, it didn't stop me from having a slice of cake about an hour later, but I felt that same full feeling again after the cake (and it was a very small piece).

So, I have a Dr.s appt this Wednesday for a fill. I just called the office and told them my story to see if I needed to cxl my appt or keep it. They told me to keep the appt and see how I feel that morning. (I thought that was super nice of them, I was trying to give them time to fill the appt slot). So, I will keep it and cxl that day if it stays this good.

I feel like the luckiest girl ever. I was kinda thinking that I would never get restriction and be a lapband failure.

  10. I am so sorry for you. I have had that happen to me in High School - but the guy I was riding with was larger than me and made sure everyone thought it was him, not me that couldn't ride. He even thanked me in front of everyone for getting off with him! What a sweetheart. He was a good friend. I am sorry you had to go through that. I am sending you warm hugs today.

  11. I never realized how much I eat when I am bored. I only get bored in the evening. I need to find something to occupy my time. I am trying to workout in the evening, but sometimes it is just so much easier to do in the mornings.

I work from home, so I am always here and always 5 steps from the fridge. HOWEVER, I am fine during the day. But man oh man, when the evening gets here, I find myself standing in the kitchen just looking for things to eat and of course they are never good. Thankfully they are at least low-cal. I have pretty much changed everything out, but 3 bags of 100 calorie snacks is still 300 calories you know what I mean?

  12. The pain in your neck and shoulder is the remaining gas they put in when they do the surgery. The only thing that will help that is walking. I totally understand what you are going through, my head wants everything, even more than before. It sucks, but is seems to get easier. You are doing great for such a short time since surgery! Congratulations!
