    No appetite at all.....

I am with you Barbara, no appetite at all, and what I do shove in tastes horrible!! I guess we should be happy, but it is so hard to force yourself to eat when everything tastes so blah. I am glad that I am not as hungry as I used to be, but it also worries me because it seems like I have less energy and am stalling more!! Quite a rollercoaster ride, didn't expect ALL my love for food to disappear! I can get used to it, if I would just start losing again. Let me know if anything changes with you guys, Tiff said it happened to her and it should go away in time...
  2. FRENCH FRIES in over 6 months...yaaaaaaa!!! They used to be my absolute favorite...mmm, especially from McDonald's! But now since my surgery, they don't sound good at all to me. I'm not trying to be too strict on my diet, or depriving myself from anything that I want, but my hunger has simply disappeared. Nothing sounds good to me anymore, so I choke down my shakes just to make sure I have enough Protein. Even when I want to eat, or think that I should, I can't think of anything that sounds or tastes good. This is soooo crazy, I went from wanting to munch all the time, to now trying to force feed myself. I must say this sleeve really does wonders for me in that aspect. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? And if so, does it last forever? Someday I would like to enjoy the taste of my food again, just not as much as I used to, or in the massive amounts I used to!

    High protein preop diet

When I was doing the low carb diet some of the things I munched on were: pork rinds celery or olives w/ spray cheese boiled eggs green olives hamburger patties w/ bacon & cheese salami lunch meat wraps w/ pickles omelettes w/ lots of veggies Also there is a brand called Torani, they have alot of sugar free coffee syrups, and it's really good!! You should be able to find it at your local grocery store. Hopes this helps you out a little...good luck with your diet, the low carb is rough the first few days but after that things should start getting easier. Keep us posted!!

    Bruise Easily?

I also have been bruising alot more easily since surgery. I thought it was a little weird, but just figured that maybe I hadn't replenished all the vitamins I need yet, or was just lacking something. But now after reading the link above, I am thinking it might be something else...I gotta get in to see the doctor soon!!

    Depression After Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Wow, I have felt the same way off and on since surgery. Just brushed it off though, I guess I thought everyone felt that way at one time or another...I too hope to be able to enjoy food one day, just not as much as I used to! Thanks for keeping up posted Lan2k and Nikki, I know that you both have been big inspirations for me since I first got here...and you both look amazing!!! I hope things even out for all of us soon, it would be nice to feel good on the inside as well as on the outside!!

    I am so mad

Oh hell no, it's bad enough that we have to hear things like that from everyone else, but our doctors too...come on!! They should be trained to be a little more sensitive when it comes to stuff like that, don't they know that is the last thing we want to hear!! I say prove them wrong, rub how great you look in their faces...then get a better doctor!! Good luck!!

Have you tried it? Youknowit- I'm so sorry to hear that you are still feeling hunger, are you on an acid reducer? I too indulge every once in awhile, I just wish it tasted better when I did!! Maybe not...because then I might do it more often...lol!! So how does that turkey jerky taste? I have been wanting to try some. You all are doing great with weight loss!! And BJean you will be there in no time...keep up the great work everyone! Thanks for all the support!

    i am hungry

It got better for me when I was able to start eating real food again. The first few weeks are the most difficult, I couldn't stop thinking about food. Now it is the exact opposite, I am never hungry! Are you on any kind of acid reducer, nexium really helped me with my hunger pangs. Don't worry it only gets better from here on out, just fight through the head hunger and try to keep yourself occupied with other things. Best of luck to you, and congratulations on getting your surgery!!

    Newbie

Welcome!!! It will be great to get to know more about you as you start your journey. I wish you all the best, the 12th is coming fast...are you excited/nervous? Keep us posted!
  11. Congratulations sleeve sister!! I had a hard time with choking down protein shakes in the beginning too, they all tasted soooo gross and made me gag! I started drinking the Atkins low carb shakes and found the taste to be (in my opinion) much better than most (and cheaper too). I haven't got sick of them yet! The only down fall is that they only have 15 grams of protein, so I usually add in a premier protein shake from costco and they have 30 grams of carbs, just to make sure I get all my protein in. I hope you can find one that you enjoy, everyone is different, and with so many different kinds out there it might take you awhile!! You are doing great though, keep it up!! Welcome to the family!!

    Fiber?

I add benefiber to anything I drink, can't taste it like some of the other ones, it's clear and not gritty at all. Some days when I'm being lazy I just pop in some of those chewable fiber tablets, they don't have as much fiber as the powders but any little bit helps things go smoother right? I also heard that over the counter miralax is really good, but haven't tried it yet just because it costs a little more than others. Best of luck to you

    Feeling frustrated...

I just want to thank you all for your support and advice. I would love to eat more meat or real food, but I have a real problem getting them down, it seems like they get stuck, and I end up feeling uncomfortable for awhile, and that's not even eating a full 2oz. I have tried many different meats cooked many different ways and it seems like I have trouble with most of them, except fish so I eat as much of that as I can but am not a big fan...trying to become one though...lol! This is why I started choking down the Protein shakes again, I wasn't getting down enough regular food or protein. Does anyone else have this problem? Plus I am never hungry since I started taking my nexium. I am very happy with the weight that I have lost so far, I guess I just expected more from the surgery and need to just except the progress that I HAVE made, and take it each day at a time. Can't help but want to be one of the lucky ones that meet and even exceed their goals!! I even set my goal lower so that I wouldn't be disappointed, but it looks like I'm not even going to make it there... I will take your advice and try to get in more real food, but I hate that "stuck" and "uncomfortable" feeling. Does that ever go away? My calorie intake is between 600-800 with the shakes, so what kind of foods are good to eat in order to up my calories and kick start weight loss??

    harder than i thought....

I felt the same exact way...I guess no matter how much I studied up on the whole thing I wasn't prepared for the first few weeks post op. I was very weak, nauseus, and depressed! I must say that I did regret it, and all I wanted to do was grub again, and feel normal! I know it sounds repeatative, and probably not really what you want to hear but it does get better!! It takes time not just for your new tummy to heal, but also for YOU to heal, mentally and emotionally from the whole life changing experience. I know I feel so much better now and no longer regret my choice, I am losing weight, gaining energy and self esteem...it feels great!! I no longer get hungry because I'm taking nexium, and have come to grips with the amount of food that I can eat. I think no matter what there will always be times that we want to shovel things in like we used to, but in reality we just can't!! Although I want half the pizza...lol, after my one piece I feel full and am ok with that. No matter what ups and downs we might have, we are becoming healthier, and will live longer, and love life, and that to me means more than that pizza!! You will get through it girl, just keep your head up, and remember all the reasons you chose wls. I wish you all the best on your journey, and I hope you feel better soon!! Keep us posted!!

    salads!

I started eating salads at about six weeks out and I did fine. It actually went down really well,(much better than chicken) just make sure you chew it up good! I love my salads too!! I am still hungry too, not all the time, but I do get that empty, aching feeling once in awhile. It is frustrating!! I take nexium, and that seemed to help alot, before I was starving all the time!! I hope your hunger subsides soon, and good luck with that salad! Mmmmm....

    Stomach aches after eating

I kind of get an uncomfortable tummy ache after eating almost every time. I just figured my tummy needed time to catch up. My doctor said it was nothing, and it does seem to get a little better over time, so hopefully it will go away all together someday!! Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon.

    why am I hungry?

I felt a little jealousy in the beginning too, I started doubting my decision and thinking that this isn't going to work for me. I wondered what was wrong with me, and why was I different??? I think it was just my body getting used to everything (it took longer than most)! I burp alot when I eat too fast, or something feels stuck. I also get the hiccups when I'm full...very annoying, but a great sign that I'm done!! Your time will come, just take it one day at a time and see what works best for you...good luck, and keep us posted!!

    why am I hungry?

I was hungry for the first few weeks too!! I was so upset and discouraged about it. Then all of a sudden my hunger has disappeared!! I started taking Nexium for my heartburn, and that might of had something to do with it (not sure). I also take B12, and that helps with metabolism among other things. I know how frustrating it can be, I stalled for over three weeks, but have now upped my workouts and started losing again. I know it's hard, but try not to get too discouraged, try upping your water intake, and workout regimen...that should help speed things along? Are you on any type of acid reducer? What vitamins are you taking? I hope things speed up for you soon. We all are so different, so you'll have to try different things in order to find out what really works for you!! I hope things start looking up for you soon...Stay positive!!!

    Pills

My surgeon told me that after 1 month I would be able to take my pills again, although the bigger ones I still cut in half. I have had no problems with swallowing them, or feeling like they are stuck, and it is so mucher nicer than crushing them (that made me sooo nauseous!)
  22. Wow, I couldn't believe how many added carbs were in my Vitamin supplements!! I have been keeping track of all my food intake and exercise through my fitness pal, and today I decided to add in my Vitamins just to see, and here's what I realized: Flintstones Gummies: I take 3 a day, so that is 23 cal., 5 carbs, and 5 sugars!! Wellesse Calcium & Vitamin D Liquid: I take 2 tablespoons a day, so that is 18 cal., and 4 carbs! Fiber choice sugar free: I take 2 tablets daily, so that is 10 calories, and 6 carbs!! Calories=47 Carbs=15:scared0: I'm not too worried about the extra calories, but as far as carbs...whoa nelly!! If I take in 30 a day, that equals half of my carbs...that is crazy to me!! I've tried other vitamins and they just don't seem to go down very well. No wonder I'm not losing, I have been at a stall for over 3 weeks!!:crying: I have tried everything, lowered carbs, upped workout, upped Water intake, tried just liquids. So what should I do??? PLEASE HELP!!

    Unsupportive Partner?

Hope for the best!! Maybe once he notices all the positive changes you'll have on your journey, he will want to actually make a change for himself (without being told, or how to think)!! Until then he should be able to support you through this tough time without being selfish about it. I hope he can come to his senses for your sake!! Good luck on your journey, even if he's not able to support you on your way...we are always here for you!!
  24. Dr. Jossart, I am so confused as to what exactly we are supposed to be taking after surgery. The only thing my doctor recommended was a bariatric multi-Vitamin. I have read that Calcium, Iron, B12, and Vitamin D are also needed. Can you please clear up some of this confusion: 1) Exactly what Vitamins do we need to be taking post-op? 2) Exactly how much of each vitamin is required/recommended? 3) How long do we need to be taking them? 4) Is there certain vitamins that we can/cannot take with others, or estimated time we need to wait in between? I would really appreciate your help, and I know there are many others out there that will too!! Thanks in advance!!
