  1. I can't tell you how terrified that they are actually going to pass this universal health care here now. It will damage us forever and we will never be able to take it back.
  2. VegasAngel, I apologize for not calling. I was really running around like a crazy woman as hubby was coming home for the weekend, plus trying to get my loose ends tied up as we leave early Tuesday morning. Butterflies in the tummy now.
  3. The last few years our politicians have fostered class envy. It works well for them. It gave people someone to hate other than the politician. They never mentioned that the people who were doing well probably invested a lot into years of education and experience. I remember working years ago with a young girl. She'd just started working. I had a nice sports car. We walked to the parking lot together and she said "I should have that car." I asked her how long she'd been working and she said 3 months. I told her I'd been working 35 years and when she worked 35 years she could have one too.
  4. They are so eager to push this sort of system on the USA. People are so stupid. All they see is "free" and don't realize they will be giving up quality and choice.
  5. Yes, we can burn up the phone lines and be our own support group. :-)
  6. How is the baby feeling? Fever gone?
  7. From my doctor's office: Just as a suggestion you might want to do a bit of grocery shopping before you have surgery so that when you come home you will not need to go to the store, you will be able to rest and relax. Some ideas are: broth, chicken, Beef, Vegetable, or they have new products out (new to me) that are Chinese soup broths in a carton that you simply heat. It would give you a bit of variety. Popsicles that are Water based, sugar free, and a variety of flavors. Ramen Noodles. While the noodles are not acceptable during the clear phase of the post op diet there is a packet of dry broth mix that many seem to like, it has a bit more kick than regular broth, I am told. Propel water, you can purchase this as bottled water or you can purchase individual packets of this product and put it in water and mix. The reason this product is good is because many are used to a high carbohydrate diet and when your body is used to many carbs, especially white carbs such as flour, Pasta, rice, potatoes, sugar; your pancreas tends to put out a bit too much insulin because of the carb load. When you remove carbs from your diet it can potentially be a drastic change and your pancreas is still putting out a bit too much insulin during the post op diet. This can cause low blood sugar, your stomach might feel nauseated, you might begin to perspire, feel like you are trembling. This does not happen to everyone but it does seem to happen more to older folks or those used to very high white carb diets. Propel water has a very small amount of sugar in it. Just enough to bring your blood sugar up but not enough to cause large blood sugar spikes. Power Aid Zero, it is a new product that is low carb but it has some electrolytes that are beneficial during the post op stage. Water, you need to get about 64oz of fluids in daily. Your broth and Popsicles count toward your 64oz of fluids daily. The key is to sip, sip, sip all day long. The first few days you may find that you cannot get your full 64oz of fluids in, try as hard as you can. You do not want to become dehydrated. If you enjoy tap water that is fine, if you don't then perhaps try bottled water and see if that goes down. Crystal Lite, Sugar Free Hawaiian Punch, pretty much any sugar free water flavorings are fine during the post op diet. Protein products, during days 1-5 you'll need a clear protein product such as Isopure clear bottled protein liquid or
  8. Good to know.
  9. Nina just told me he makes a 36 but oversews it down to a 34. I couldn't find the thread that was talking about bougie sizes.
  10. When I started to research WLS I was leaning towards the band. It seemed to be a simple surgery and not very invasive. Then I started reading different boards and about how unhappy so many were and the problems they were having. What struck me were the healthy foods that seemed to not work with the band, such as broccoli and other vegetables. I thought that was terrible. I wanted to eat less but I still wanted to be able to eat some of my favorite vegetables, etc.
  11. From everything I've been able to find, he is the 'go to' surgeon for this operation. That is part of the reason why I did not go through months of trying to get insurance approval. Here in Vegas the doctors are not experienced with the sleeve. They do the other surgeries but not the sleeve. They are just now beginning to do them. I don't want to be one of the first ten a doctor does. I want my guy to have done many, many. Aceves meets that bill.
  12. Do y'all ever want to go over to the lapband boards and tell the people with surgery scheduled 'DON'T TO IT!!!! STOP!!!!'?:purplebananna:
  13. This thread is amazing. You see all of those commercials for the band and it sounds like a piece of cake. That is what I originally was going to push for. Actually my insurance would pay for it. Then I started researching and read about all of the problems associated with the lapband. I am not a barfer. I can't even remember the last time I barfed. Not even during pregnancy. So no way did I want to spend the rest of my life barfing - even on healthy foods. Then I saw something on the sleeve and started to look into it. I knew this was for me. I kept researching and see that complications are more of the exception than the rule. That convinced me. I didn't even want to spend months and months trying to fight my insurance company who would pay for either a lapband or the bypass. So I started accumulating my funds and now I will be done in a few days. Also, reading this thread makes me understand Sharon Osborne. I saw her on a t.v. interview show and she mentioned that she was getting her lapband removed the next day and she could not wait to get the bloody thing out of her body. I didn't know what the problem was, but I do now. You just don't hear about any of this much on t.v.
  14. I'm just like you. Once I made my final decision I wanted it done - NOW. I just had to wait a little bit to gather the last of the cash I needed, but if I could not have done that I would have financed. If your health isn't worth it what else in you life would be? When I decided it was time for my gallbladder to come out, I walked into the doctor's office and said that I wanted it out tomorrow. OK, it took a week to get on the surgeon's schedule, but I got it done when I wanted it done. I've decided this is the time to do it regarding my weight and so now I'm gong to do it!!
  15. I'm sorry you have to worry about the little one today. I'm sure Grammie will take good care of him. You concentrate on YOU. I hope it is all a piece of cake. Pardon the pun.
  16. If you want to live under a microscope then tell them. I'm not telling anyone except the people who will miss me while I'm in Mexico and I've told them I expect complete confidentiality. So if my son and daughter don't want to be cut out of the will :rolleyes2: they will keep their mouths shut. Anyone who notices my weight loss I will tell them I'm losing under the supervision of a doctor on a modified liquid diet, including Protein and limiting my carbs. True. Right? I'm not interested in anyone's opinions or judgements or advice.
  17. I had my gallbladder removed last August. I am still having pain in that area sometimes. It can't be from fatty foods as I am still having it even though I've been basically on liquids the past couple of weeks. So what is going on? I live in fear of Pancreatic cancer (don't laugh) as I had a cousin and aunt both die from it. Any of you in the medical field have any thoughts? I'd go see the surgeon but I'm only ten days out from the VSG and I don't want anything to delay that.
  18. Normal exercise is so boring! I do like to walk, but it is already getting HOT here so I'd have to be sure to get out early. Because it is HOT the pool is perfect right now. I don't have a huge, lap pool. I lovingly refer to it as my 'pond' but my 5-yr. old grandson is very excited to play in it. I've been using him as my exercise tool. I lift him, twirl him, jog up and down while carrying him. And I'm having fun! Woo Hoo :rolleyes2:
  19. Hi there Missie. I just found this place.
  20. Vegas Angel you were recommending a supplement but forgot to post the name.
  21. I read that you should not take toradol for more than five days. Are you recommending we get more to bring home? I understand buying the Nexium because from what I read the acid could last a good while.
  22. There is an airport in Calexico but it has very limited service. For better flight schedules and fares San Diego has it beat.
  23. I lived in California for many years and heard horror stories about driving in Mexico without actual Mexican insurance. They make their own rules down there and just because you have US insurance may or may not make a difference to them. The best way is to have the driver pick you up.
  24. My surgery with him is scheduled for May 27. For a while it seemed like it would never get here and now it feels as though it is just around the corner.
