I went to my GP at the Wendover Health Centre when I returned from the Czech Republic with a letter from Dr Cierny and all was well. She told me to make an appointment for the 22nd with the practice nurse to have the stitches removed as per Dr Ciernys recommendations in the letter, which I did.

I just had a call from the practice nurse to say that as I had the op done privately she would not take the stitches out. She waited till the day they are due for removal to tell me!!

So later I am going to town to buy the kit I will need and my daughter who is currently applying to medical schools will remove them for me using instructions from WikiHow.

Why in the world didn't your doctor use self dissolving sutures? Especially since he wasn't going to be removing them himself? The type of sutures you have leave rail road track scars.

They really are easy to remove. Just cut next to the knot and pull the knot side. Might have to tug just a little bit but they should slip right out.

I don't know. Obviously the internal sutures are self dissolving but I have a couple of normal stitches at each entrance site. My daughter wants to go to med school so she is happy to have a go tonight. Got instructions and new scissors and tweezers today so wish us luck.

I have saved the NHS shedloads of cash now and in the future by getting this op done with my own money. I expect my medical needs to be dramatically cut by achieving a normal weight. I have paid into the system all my working life and then when I just need a little help they do this to me. I am beyond angry with them.

PS it is accepted wisdom here that our NHS is the envy of the world hahaha!

Question for you, one of the biggest problems we have today in the US regarding emergency rooms are narcotic seekers. There is nothing wrong with these people, they just want narcotics. Some hospitals say that 70% of the patients coming in to their ERs are people wanting narcotics and faking symptoms to get them.

How does your health system handle this problem?

If these people move between different hospital A&E depts due to the turnover of staff and the pathetic recod keeping and the no's of undocumented people in the UK I think they would just get the drugs they are after. I am not a medical person though, but the NHS is quite a basket case and cannot sort its recod keeping out, mainly because contracts are awarded to political cronies. Its a bit 3rd world!

They are so eager to push this sort of system on the USA. People are so stupid. All they see is "free" and don't realize they will be giving up quality and choice.

The dummies of the world do not understand that they will be paying out the nose for this. I view our VA hospitals as small examples of what we would do to medical care on a larger scale. Yeah, I don't think so.

Well Amy did a good job on the stitches and my little medical kit cost a whopping £1.50!

In the UK we have a problem with people buying private healthcare or education. Envy is a very British trait unfortunately. That's why we have had a socialist government for the last 12 years and our economy is screwed. Basically we penalise those that try to shift for themselves and mollycoddle the feckless. Don't get me started on that!

The last few years our politicians have fostered class envy. It works well for them. It gave people someone to hate other than the politician. They never mentioned that the people who were doing well probably invested a lot into years of education and experience.

I remember working years ago with a young girl. She'd just started working. I had a nice sports car. We walked to the parking lot together and she said "I should have that car." I asked her how long she'd been working and she said 3 months. I told her I'd been working 35 years and when she worked 35 years she could have one too.
