So... got some work to do.
WOW Jason, I am so impressed by your story and how hard you have worked at this. It gave me goose bumps when I read that your doctor was going to give you a surgery date in August. I don't even know you but wanted to cry tears of joy for you. I know you're going to be a great success story...I know that I will be following your journey and use you as a source of inspiration as I begin my journey as well. You have a beautiful family! Thanks for sharing!

anyone in Jefferson City/Columbia Mo area
Hi, I'm being banded on the 22nd, I was wondering if there is anyone else close by that will be banded or has been banded by Dr. Pitt at Boone Co Hospital in Columbia. I'd love to know how you are doing, what you thought of Dr. Pitt and his aftercare and anything else you want to share. Thanks. PS. I'm looking for a workout buddy if anyone wants to join, I work out at Wilson's in the mall

New Here!
Welcome and I hope your recovery goes well. I am being banded on the 22nd, a little nervous but feeling pretty positive. I think you will find these boards extremely helpful, I know I have. I'm in Missouri too

What are your hobbies?
Susan, I LOVE Jeeping in the woods! It's a blast. Nothing like seeing nothing but the hood of your jeep and the sky! Or having your back tire on a rock and being able to touch the ground on the drivers side!

Exercise proud
Thanks! It did feel good. A year ago I was doing really pretty good at losing the weight and then I had to have a bone removed from my foot. Exercise became painful, so I stopped and the weight piled back on. Now, I'm pretty much healed and ready to go out and not only reach my goals but maintain them. I hate going to the gym but love it when I'm there. I haven't tried running since my surgery and will probably wait until I have lost at least 20 to 30 pounds before I do try it. I really enjoy the elliptical cross glider, there is no impact and it doesn't hurt my foot or my knees. Thanks for sharing your story.

Exercise proud
Ok, so I haven't been banded yet and one of my biggest problems in the past has been stress eating. I talked with the Physc Dr when I had my eval and she told me I had to have a plan in place for how I was going to deal with stress post surgery, so I made a plan that if I was stressed out from work that I would go to the gym and work out until I felt the stress was gone. I DID IT!...two hours later and a few muscles found I KNOW WERE NOT THERE, before I walked in the gym. But, I followed my plan and I am feeling pretty empowered at the moment. I'd like to hear your stories of how you handle stress or a time when you excercised that you were really proud of. Please share

Skinny Ass Boyfriend
Thank God for chubby chasers... I was in a relationship with a man that told me pretty much the same thing that "He didn't want a thin woman", I started losing weight on medifast, and started to get the attention of other guys and my guy actually broke up with me...I'm so much better off without him in my life, I never realized how much he was controlling me. Of course if he would have stuck around he'd have seen me gain the weight back plus some...oh well his loss...LOL Back to your situation, I agree with many of the other posters here, your BF sounds like he is insecure. Reassure him of your love and make sure that he knows that just because you are losing weight and getting healthy that it doesn't change the way that you feel about him. Also, be honest with him and tell him truly how you feel, and let him know his support means a lot to you. Good Luck! Keep us updated

Psych Evaluation
I had my eval on 6/2/09, I was worried they were going to call me crazy and lock me up. She did quite the opposite. We talked in great length about why I felt this was the best option and what I had tried prior to this and of course I did get to take the lovely 300 question test. Overall, I really enjoyed my eval, the Dr. was really nice.

im having a change of heart on having the lapband
I think it's perfectly normal to be nervous and think about the what if's. But, think about the what if's that come along with being obese and not losing the weight. What if, I get diabetes and I lose one or more of my limbs? What if, I have a heart attack? What if, I get so heavy that every step I take hurts and I can't take care of my family? What if, I want to do something and can't because I'm just too heavy? There are many what if's out there, I think the most important thing to think about is...is it the best decision for you. If you feel it is right for you then that's what truly matters. No matter what you decide, I wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted.

How quick
Cool, I think I will start tomorrow. I haven't exercised in over a year except for an occasional softball game. I am starting back to the gym tomorrow too. My doctor told me the more toned my stomach muscles were to start with the better off I will be. I want this so bad, I'm willing to do anything he tells me to do. Thank you so much for your input.

How quick
I started the Protein Shakes this week, using them to replace one meal a day. I like them a lot, so I'm thinking that's a good thing! I am using the 100% whey protein that we have in our local health market, is yummy. I have 24 days until I'm banded, would it hurt if I started replacing two meals a day?

Need advice
I'm well stocked with Protein shakes. They help, but not significantly. I'm taking prednisone, which really ratchets the appetite up. But thank you for your suggestion and your good wishes. parakeet OH~I totally understand!!! Prednisone turned me into an EATING MONSTER!!! My doctor had me on that to treat a foot injury and I ate EVERYTHING in sight! I gained twenty five of my hundred pounds in the two months that I was on it. I wish you the best that's a tough situation, I hope you don't have to be on the prednisone long term.

How quick
As I've been reading through the forums, I've noticed a lot of people with the weight loss tickers that have had their surgery only a few weeks ago and many have already lost over 30 pounds! Is that NORMAL? My doctor told me that the average is one to two pounds a week. Please share your first month's weight loss, stories and amounts.

Why are YOU Fat?
Many reasons why I am fat #1 I LOVE food, I love to cook with lots of different flavors and textures #2 I am member of the clean your plate club, yes eight years of a catholic school with nuns telling you there are thousands of starving children out there, will do that to you #3 My daddy always said "You aren't poor as long as you have food in the house" He was raised during the great depression #4 I eat when, I'm happy, sad, confused, frustrated, and mainly when I'm stressed out. #5 I eat to be social, family functions always include food. #6 I eat when I am lonely...Been divorced for three years and haven't dated in over a year. Yup, lots of reasons...LOL I pray the band helps most of those reasons

Need advice
I am so sorry you are having such a terrible time with things. Doctors can be very frustrating when you know there is something not right and they don't listen. Keep your chin up it's going to get better. I haven't had the band placed yet, my doctor told me Monday to start replacing one meal a day with my Protein shake, I am using a 100% whey protein, I have to tell you I've been really surprised at the fact that I can have the Protein Shake in the morning and go for four to five hours without being hungry. Perhaps if you try to supplement with a protein shake it may take the edge off of your hunger. Again, I haven't had the band, do I don't know 100% that it would work, but it may be worth a try. You can do this, have faith in yourself, feel free to message me if you just need someone to talk to. Good luck, Stacy

Overweight friends and the lap band
I have a question for everyone out there... I have a friend that is very overweight and really wants to have the lap band done, problem is she just got laid off and doesn't have the money or the insurance to do it, how do I help her? So far, I have explained to her that she could lose weight by starting to give up soda, since she drinks about six a day, which translates into around 900 calories per day or two pounds a week weight loss. Right now many of our social functions are centered around food, what kinds of activities have you replaced the eating with? Any suggestions???????? Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Stacy

Really bad night Thursday night!
Wow, I am so sorry you had to go through that. As a newly diagnosed diabetic, I am so glad you shared your story, it will help me remember that it's important to check my sugar levels even after surgery. Hope you are feeling better soon, Stacy

Softball
Cool, that's good to know. I'm signed up for the fall league and my biggest fear was it twisting or something like that since it would be so soon after surgery. Fall league starts in September. We have a game the night after my surgery, do you think I'll be able to coach it? Or do you think I'll be too sore? Not sure what to expect. I went to a support group meeting and one of the people there had just had it done the day before and said he felt fine.
