  1. Hi Debi I am scheduled for July. My surgeon told me if grazing was my problem, the lapband is not a good choice. However, he thought lapband would be perfect for me. I'm not a sweet eater, I love love good food. Pasta, rich foods, etc. If my surgeon recommended RNY, I would not have done that. To me, that is an extreme surgery. Re-routing your intestines and changing the anatomy of the abdomen is major. Don't get me wrong, I have friends who are thrilled with the results of RNY. This is my personal feeling about RNY. The risks are much greater than the risks with lapband. I am 213 pounds and 5'4. To be at a healthy weight, my doctor said I needed to lose 60 - 65 lbs. Of course, my goal is to lose 85lbs. My surgeon thought lapband was the way to go for me. I didn't have to lose 100 pounds +. Also, studies have proven - people who have had RNY vs. Lapband lose quicker, however, after two years the results are about the same. Think strongly about this and research research research. Good luck and let us know what you decided to do. Em
  2. Hi Cris, I'm scheduled for July 11th. Waiting for insurance approval. I have been on every forum here. My suggestion would be to check out all of the message boards. They are all extremely informative and helpful. With all the research I have done, I found that everyone has had different experiences. The nutritionist and the literature I read said that I would find Pasta and white meat chicken intolerable. When I ask bandsters, they all have different experiences. With that said, check out all of the forums. There's one on complications as well. Good luck. emily
  3. Dody, Thanks for the info. You should be so proud. You are definetely an inspiration for me. One day, I'll be able to talk about maintenance. One question though, Why were you vomiting? Too much of something that didn't agree with you? Let me know. Em
  4. Thanks very much. I will do that.
  5. Hi! I am new to the site. My surgery date is July 25. A little nervous. Just want to wish you luck and feel better soon. I'm glad today is a better day for you. Em
  6. Thanks for the support.
  7. Does anyone have HealthNet? I'm waiting for my approval. Surgeon's office sent it in a few days ago. I don't know how difficult they are. Let me know. Thanks. Emily
  8. Hi Dr. Pleatman I'm new and I'm concerned. I'm having my band put on in July, 06. How does slippage occurr and why? Emily
  9. I am scheduled for lap band in July, 06. I'm new to this forum as of today. I need help with some questions. Slippage is the one thing I'm very worried about. Does this mean another surgery? How do you know if the band slips? What happens? Why does slippage occur especially years after surgery. And why does it have to be removed? Why can't the surgeon put another band on? Please help me. I'm very worried and need some information. I am excited but at the same time concerned. Emily
  10. Hi I am new to this. I have no idea if I'm even doing this correctly. I just posted something but I think I was in the wrong place. Not very computer savvy. Anyway, I have not been banded yet. I'm waiting for Insurance approval from Health Net. My surgery is scheduled for July 25th. I'm very nervous. The surgeon who will be peforming the surgery is Dr. Roslin, NY. Came highly recommended. I really need to hear all the positives and negatives. I'm worried about complications. Help!
  11. Hi all, I just joined this forum today. My surgery is scheduled for July 25. I am very nervous and I need to know if there is anyone out there that has had complications. I have only read and heard positives about the surgery. Yesterday, I had to meet with the nutritionist. She spoke about the foods that I will probably never tolerate. Pasta and white meat chicken are the two things that I love. Will I be able to tolerate this at one point after surgery? Help! I need more information. Thanks.
