I did my research and have had Family & friends that have had all different wls so I did my research & went to 3 different seminars to make sure of what I wanted & I watched & talked with these people family & friends to know what the differences were and what they had to do , so the ones I knew that were close I asked them what care their Surgeons had , then I looked up the surgeons to find out MY Surgeon only had one death and it was not because of his care it was because the person was not honest about their health and it was on the news , also one of the Seminars I went to the Surgeon wanted $8.000.00 out of pocket & up front before he would even consider me , so I asked a friend I know & I went to her Surgeon & have been making payments , also I didn't like the idea of either rerouting or part of my insides (Stomach) being taken out , the Band is reversible so if anything would have happened I could have it taken out , so that's why I chose MY Surgeon & I am VERY HAPPY I MADE THE CHOICE to have the band.

So because you say your surgeon doesn't do lapband anymore, you think that's a reason not to get one??????
Who is your surgeon? Why doesn't he/she do them?
I find it almost comical you would post such a reply to someone who is asking for advice on HOW WE. ...THOSE OF US WHO HAVE IT, selected our surgeons. Some of us are very successful and HAPPY with our lapband results.

My PCP recommended my surgeon. I then contacted his office and scheduled to attend one of his FREE seminars. Then visited with the actual surgeon about two weeks later. Felt really comfortable with the discussions and his experience. I think years of experience and numbers of procedures done would be 2nd and 3rd on my list of things to consider today. A surgeon who has access AND USES fluoroscopy for ALL adjustments would be my number one recommendation. I would NEVER recommend a doctor who still does "blind fills".

I think he point was the question was not posed to get a lapband bashing session going. I think the question was posed to give them an idea of how we picked our surgeons. so if you failed at the band or the band supposedly failed you it's not your mission to scare anyone away from one surgery or the other. There are plenty of long time band patients here who can testify to their success, after you have a sleeve for 14 or15 years you can let us know how that's working for you. Hopefully you will be successful , but please be considerate of the other people here who are happy and healthy and don't enjoy negativity.

Sounds just like me.....way back in 2009.
I'm coming up on 6 years post op and there hasn't been one time I've regretted my decision to have Lapband surgery. Quite the opposite actually.
    Best wishes!

That's what I'm going to be by the end of 2015!
When I had my surgery consultation, the surgeon asked why I wanted surgery. One of my reasons was that I missed running and wanted to run a marathon. In the past, when my weight was lower, I completed a half marathon and several 5-10Ks.
I am in week 4 of training for the Honolulu marathon on December 13th. I'm excited and a bit terrified. And just to add a little to that terror, I'm also going zip lining when I'm there. Always wanted to do that but felt I was too fat.
I wouldn't be doing any of this if I hadn't made the choice to have this surgery. So happy to be getting healthy and being able to live life again.

No regrets. I always say "Being banded is an inconvenience for 5% of my day, but being obese was an inconvenience 100 % of my day ". I' ll take the 5% any day of the week. No regrets !!

What is there to regret......there was nothing I liked about being fat. Obesity was a disease that was going to kill me and I simply had treatment to help rid myself of that disease. Now I live a lifestyle to help prevent it's return.

My daughter worked at the hospital in the OR with my surgeon and recommended him. I also had talked to a local lady who had the lapband years ago. She had my surgeon and loved him. He has done thousands of lapbands and has a great reputation. AS far as the statement by the sleever , the sleeve is the flavor of the week, everybody thinks it's great and they have to bash the band to make their point. I did not want 80% of my stomach removed or my intestines re-routed . My decision was mine, My Dr. did all of the surgeries but I chose the lapband. I had my band 2 1/2 years ago, I have not had one problem . I don't appreciate the band bashers .

My surgeon sort of chose me because I am a nurse and he's the main bariatric surgeon at the hospital i work in. He's a great friend of mine now and I couldn't be happier! He is an awesome doctor. Whoever you choose please make sure you have a working relationship with them because it makes your experience so much smoother and you feel comfortable asking questions. I, for one, know my doctor would be there for me in a heartbeat if i needed something. I know this from first hand experience...If I call him at home, he's there for me immediately. Thats hard to come by. Trust your doctor before you go into surgery.

Wow! The weight loss stats for the lapbanders and sleevers who responded to this post are amazing! I'm about 80% sure that I want to go with the lap band. My biggest concerns with the lap band is my body rejecting it and the possibility of erosion. My biggest concerns with the sleeve is that it's too new and isn't reversible if there's a complication. I have one more orientation next week and then I'll choose my doctor.

Same here. My PCP gave me the name of a group from a center of excellence in bariatric surgery. I saw one doctor specifically based on a friend who used her. I was very comfortable with her and decided to go ahead with this doctor and group. I'm very fortunate in that I live in a major city so finding a doctor wasn't going to be an issue. Good luck!

I use Pandora when cycling most of the time.
When running I normally use a pre- made playlist. I get a lot of my music from http://www.steadymixes.com/
Also, I use "music manic pro" for some downloads.

Yes! Just finished my marathon and Spartan race and heading in for plastics later this week so I am being cautious on my fall goals (couple of Ragnars and half marathons) but would totally join in! No training for me for 4-6 weeks at least though.

I cant speak for others but being banded just made everything better, not worse. My hubby met me at a slim 125 lbs, married 5 yrs later at a 143 and after our son was born (26 yrs ago) watch me balloon to 225 lbs . He never said a word but I know he wasn't happy about my weight. I wasn't the attractive outgoing person who could do things anymore. Too tired or no energy or uncomfortable. Now ? Complete opposite ! I'm baaaaacccckkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!! We are both very happy with my decision to get banded !!

Mo' Cowbell Marathon on October 4th in St. Charles, Mo.
This will be my first full marathon. I'm using the walkjogrun.net "Beginner Run Marathon Training Plan" and plan on somewhere around a 5 hour pace.
I'm at the end of the 3rd week of the 18 week plan. I've done 16 miles...once in the past, and this plan has you go up to 20 miles before the big day.
I was thinking of starting a "Fall 2015 Goal Run" thread. No matter what distance each person is doing for this falls goal "race", maybe it'd help us achieve it. We could each put our daily or weekly training runs on there. Any interest?
