  1. I went through this as well and have many posts and received lots of help from this forum. What ended up happening in my situation is that it all worked out perfectly and I got approved. My surgeons office was just really late getting the updated info from my insurance (BS/CA). This was all after making several calls to the insurance and my Dr.s office. My surgeons practice is to have patients do 3 months regardless of what insurance requires. SO I did 3 months...really 4 because the first month (assessment) didn't count. My advice would be to call your insurance again and asked the rep if they can personally contact your surgeons office to inform them. OR get the direct line of the rep and give it to your surgeons office to contact them. I hate when they aren't up to date on these policies.....
  2. Yes, it was VERY awkward for me!!! She caught me off guard because I wasn't expecting her to ask me that, but this is where her immaturity comes in. She also has never been a sup until a couple months ago, my old boss left and she took over. Good for you! Professionally, she should not have asked. Everywhere I have worked, it would have meant a trip to the Principal's office (or HR) how awkward! and unprofessional. she should not have even asked.
  3. Sadly, after all the excitement and anticipation, I think Im going to postpone my surgery from (6/16) to July. I've been so busy fulfilling requirements and preparing to have the surgery that I havent done much to stock anything for after the surgery. I know I wont feel up to running to the store everyday and not even close. I also just dont feel financially prepared just yet, all of these Protein drinks and Vitamins are going to take a pretty penny out of my pay!! Ive been cruzing around amazon, on these forums and other sites to see which protein supplement I wanted to use as well as chewable vits. Right now Im using Premier and Lean Body which has 40 grams of protein. While Im satisfied with those I heard that Isopure was pretty good too AND the powders deliver 50g of protein per serving!!! thats insane and really I thought our bodies can only process up to 25g of protein in one meal and the rest gets expelled...is that true? if so then why does these supplements contain so much? Whats on your shopping list for AFTER surgery? Where are you finding the best prices for your items? I hear creamed Soups are good, any specific brand? Ill be on straight liquids for the first 2 weeks, then puree then soft.
  4. For those of you that are using Flintsone Vits, How many are you having to take per day? this sounds like a great alternative from the tres expensive vits and Im wondering if they could work for me as well and provide what I need regularly. Im considering either these or liquid vitamins, atleast for a couple weeks from when the dr. suggest I start taking them.

    Food Funeral

I initially thought that I would have a food funeral, but honestly after doing this pre-op for almost a week now I feel great! I have energy that I havent felt in a while. as of right now that energy feels so much better than how fries and ketchup taste. Not to mention the pounds are melting. I will say that I have a close friend who had vsg and while she has been really successful and have dropped over 100lbs, she is picking weight back up pretty quickly because she may not eat a lot BUT the foods she is eating just arent good. This is a fear of mine....
  6. Thanks everyone....I should probably take a break from Horrortube....aka youtube. Of course after seeing a few videos about people who have died DURING this surgery...im freakin out a bit. Your recommendations are great thanks!
  7. Thanks My other concern was that my surgery was schedule too close for me to file for FMLA, so i opted to use 4 sick days. I work at a desk and sometimes do training's where I do have to carry equipment, set it up etc.

    Can't stop smoking :(

I am not a Dr. but please consider postponing your surgery for a later date, when you've been able to get a handle on the smoking. I know its waaaaay easier said than done, but I was informed, although Im not a smoker, that the smoking prior to this surgery can cause serious complications. Take care of yourself.
  9. Im sorry Im certainly not alone with this. makes me sad too, but like most of the pp's said, she is slowly accepting it. Today is better than yesterday and she even said that she would try to drive up to visit me after the surgery....so keep your head up. your mom will come around....they may NEVER be overly excited about it...that is until they see our success.
  10. All I have to say is WOW!!! I ventured over to the Complications forum and I am now scared out of my mind!!!!! Why oh why did I have to go there. I know there is a risk for complications but it's horrible of what some people have had to go through after this surgery
  11. Thx everyone for the comments. My mother dearest is itching to tell my nutritionist sister. She said "IM curious as to what she has to say about this!" So for the umpteenth time I asked her again to not say anything to the rest of the family and that I will say something in my own time.
  12. Wasn't sure how to title this but what Im asking is what is your response when people acknowledge your weightloss? For example if someone who has not seen you in a while says OMG, you've lost so much weight, what have you been doing??" what do you tell them? Do you tell them you have had weight loss surgery?
  13. Thanks everyone! This site has been awesome for me. My husband is now supporting me. I say now, because he didn't start until a couple months ago because he saw that I was serious about it and that I had already made up my mind. I really appreciate his support. Plus he is on Atkins so we will be rooting for each other. I guess it makes it hard that my mom and sisters are 7 hours from me and my father is...on the other side of the US! My husband made me feel the need to tell them because of that "What if something happens to me?" Otherwise I didn't want to tell any of my family. I just wanted to surprise them after success. BTW- After getting my moms reaction, I am considering to not tell anyone else.

    AM I REALLY DOING THIS?!

I think panicking is definitely normal during this whole process. After I got the call that I was approved and schedule (all in one breath) I panicked...I was in another whole world, I could barely walk because I wasn't expecting to even get approved with my lack of comorbidities and borderline BMI BUT Insurance and my surgeon saw this as medically necessary and to my surprise they approved me!! I'm curious, what do you mean by "not being normal anymore"?
  15. I am. 1st Pre-op (Labs) 6/8, last Pre-Op 6/15. Surgery 6/16. Started liquids a few days ago and while the first 2 days were rough...it's gotten much better. Also when I say liquids, I really mean 2-3 Protein shakes...I also eat a lean cuisine for lunch and sautéed greens for dinner, all along with Water. Have dropped 5lbs which I needed to do and have a few more lbs to drop to get to my Surgeons goal weight by surgery day. Everyday I'm looking more and more forward to this.
  16. Hi All- I started my pre-op full liquids today. Ugh It's barely been 6 hours since I've been awake and I already want to pull my hair out. All I want is a frickin salad...IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR?? well apparently so. The nurse at my surgeons office says she wants me on all liquid. Pre-op appt is next Weds, surgery is 6/16. This is tough, so I'm dreading the days to come...will I be so hungry like this everyday? will it get better? At this point all I can think is, Why Me? Why Can't I be the girl who weighs 135lbs and can eat whatever she wants and not gain 80 lbs???? Moving forward.. and hoping the next shake will cheer me up!
  17. Hmmm that is a good way of looking at it. I have been on every diet you can think of and some with prescriptions weightloss pills and drinks...but in-between that I've pretty much eaten whatever I want, whenever I want.... really not paying attention to my bodies needs. Its time to get it together!!! We all deserve to be healthy and happy
  18. CONGRATS on your approval!!! I was a "jerk" during the first 2 days. I was very unhappy since I especially didn't get in all the foods I wanted to before starting this. My surgery date was scheduled so close, so as soon they called me, I had to hop on the pre-op band wagon. So far im doing well and loosing steady, I may have 1 day to eat 1 meal that I really want before surgery if I keep this loosing up. My Dr. says as long as I don't gain weight. BTW how much weight can you actually gain by eating a burger and fries? this is a serious question lol, in MY experiences probably about 3lbs so If I do go this route I'll need to give myself 5 days to get it back off....
  19. YES! and I have already dropped 5lbs so that feels great and gives me the energy to keep pushing. I told my husband yesterday that I'm a little upset that I didn't get in ALL of my fav foods before I started this..that just goes to show how unhealthy my relationship with food is. I would still love a good burger and fries but im ok right now with my shakes, Water and sautéed kale
  20. I got the call last week that I had been approved and scheduled for surgery. I'm guessing it's the norm but I wasn't given an option of dates. By the time the office called me, they already had me schedule for June 16. It just occurred to me that in order to qualify or apply for any type of leave/disability you have to get it in 30 days prior to surgery. Obviously my surgery is less than 30 days away. Initially I was going to do the 4-6 weeks that my Dr. suggests I recover for, then switched to, maybe ill be ok with just using a few days of vacation time then going back. Now I'm back to, I'm going to need more than 3 days to recover. That being said, I'm wondering if I should reschedule for a later date? Has anyone else filed for disability with a close surgery date?

    Surgery 6/14.

Congrats, my surgery is on 6/16 I'm starting to get excited!
  23. and that was my other concern....I had a C-section 2.5 yrs ago and after a week I developed a seroma (sp?) and my incision busted open..ugh sorry for tmi. But needless to say I do worry about complications now
  24. Mee too...I've heard that for some people, your taste buds do change and for some, they have found they cant tolerate the Protein shakes anymore, after surgery..YIKES! the ready made Protein Shakes are such an EASY way for me to get my protein in right now.
  25. Thanks for your response! What protein shakes are you drinking? So far, Lean Body is my fav...wish I could take my nutribullet everywhere I go! I especially like to blend them with ice and a bit of frozen bananas.
