I'm with you there. There's always someone who has to try to make it hard on everyone else. Maybe you can go to a different doctor or something. Just don't give up but most of all your health comes first.

I am so proud for you. Make sure and take it easy and give your body plenty of healing time. Some Aloe Vera juice would sure be good for your throat. So the surgery wasn't bad? That line but if you saved SOME money, to be completely honest that really ticked me off. Let me give you a little info you don't have. I pay Anthem BCBS, almost 700.00 dollars per month for me and my husband. Let's see, that's 8000.00 a year. Wow, that would pay for this surgery but let's go a little further. I called them and they said, "We probably won't pay for this BUT if we id pay SOME you will need to have preop done yourself, 4000.00 and then see a dietician for 6 months but if you loose over 6 pounds then you won't qualify for sure you'll be under the 40BMI. Boy, that really sucks. I've done been dealing with them for 2 months, guess where I'm at, not ONE STEP FURTHER THAN I WAS 2 MONTHS AGO. Yep, that's the United States for you or they'll do the same surgery here for 26,000.00. Boy, It doesn't take much intelligence to let you know what our doctors and insurance companies are after now does it. Just thought I let you know it's not to SAVE some money. I was going to take 10,000.00 out of our savings account but I don't have 26,000.00 there handy to use for the same thing. I too am a L.P.N. nurse so I do know a little bit. Thanks, Sherri

Hi everyone, I'm Sherri from Kentucky. I've been posting here for the last month but don't really know anyone yet. I had debated for the last month to either wait on the insurance company and still pay about half of the cost and wait 6 months on dieting and then if I lost as much as 4 pounds would be under the 40 BMI they require or go on and self pay with Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey Mexico. Then I got to thinking, both doctors here that I've talked to have done less than 200 lap bands and Dr. Sanchez has done more than 5000. That decided for me. Forget the money part, (although I could sure pay a lot of bills with 9,000.00) but it's my health so I'm going for it. My surgery is the 21st of July but I've been thinking about moving it up some. Well I wish you nothing but good luck and good thoughts. I'll be thinking of you as well. Isn't this exciting. I did get my bubble bursted somewhat tonight though. My 21 year old daughter is a Physician's asst. and when I told her tonight I wasn't waiting on the insurance she had a cow. She said NO your not getting it done there. You're going to wait and the insurance WILL eventually pay. You know, that's not my only problem. All of the Doctor's here have done less than 500 of the lap bands. Now they done bunches of the Bypass by not the banding and in Mexico he's done more than 5000 but I just can't get my family on board. Oh well, life goes on. Keep in touch and I'm so proud for you. I know how you feel and your not alone. I too am in the fight of my life with Anthem BCBS. I've waited for 2 weeks just to find out if they'll cover me or not and all they can say is they don't know. I finally got enough and called Dr. Sanchez's office and got an appointment in Mexico for July21st. I'm all excited then, my daughter who is a Physician's Assistant had a cow. No, your not going to Mexico, just go on the 6 month diet that your insurance company wants you to go on and then maybe they'll cover. I'm so tired of maybe's and if's and but's. It's aggravating isn't it? Then when you think you've got it worked out, someone burst your bubble. Just keep up the faith and it will happen. I know it seems like it won't now but it will. We've just got to grab down deep inside and hold on for this roller coaster ride. Just take a few minutes and calm down and don't worry about that cake. Once you get banded your appetite will diminish and life will get better, I promise. Sherri

I need your help. Janet told me there was no need in any preop diet with Dr. Sanchez but everyone here says they are on a preop diet. What is a person to do? Also, I read the thread about what to eat and buy for afterwards and I got my pain medicine that I take now on a daily basis (from neck surgery) Loritab, in liquid formula today will that work instead of pills? I've decided instead of waiting almost 8 months and fighting with the insurance company I'm going to go to Mexico for my lap band. They can do it as early as this month. What I was wondering is I've narrowed it down to 2 doctors, Dr. Sanchez and Dr. Ortiz, do you all have any opinions either way on either one or heard anything or know of anything I should know in making my final decision. As you all know, I've struggled and am still struggling over having my surgery done here or in Mexico. Cash I will have to pay even though I have insurance will be about the same either way. Here in the states I seem to be getting the run around. Have waited 2 weeks just to get appointment they haven't even called me back yet from 2 huge hospitals, of course there, lots quicker. Here, 6 month diet, but from what I understand I need the after care I can get here. But, can I not get that here from someone Dr. Ortiz sends me too. First of all, and I am too new to this but finally absolutely sure this is what I've having done. Still don't know positively about Anthem paying but surgeon's office called me today and set up my first appointment and a seminar date. Thank you all for you help. It's been such a rough road and yes I think my husband knows that as long as I'm fat no one even glances my way and I think maybe he was thinking all crazy and that maybe, just maybe I might get a look from someone else or something. Crazy is what it is, I mean he gets up every day, puts on his tight jeans, nice clothes, sprays his cologne and yes, he looks nice and I know how many looks he gets but I wouldn't want to take that from him because I know it makes a person feel good, so why would he not want me to feel good. We live in Kentucky or very close to Tennessee, (Nashville) if that helps anyone with Doctor locations. I have never been so consumed with anything in my life. I promise you I'm one of those people who eat very little, I know well how can you be fat, well, I can't do a whole lot because of the fat and all of the disc problems but really I don't and a few days ago we went to K.F.C. and my husband ordered us both buffet because we had never tried it. I was never so embarrassed in my life as to walk up to that buffet and try to get food on my plate as I was sure EVERYONE was saying, "Oh my God, she really needs the buffet", that is why mentally, I've got to get rid of this it is controlling my life. I've asked this a couple of times, would someone tell me please, If I have this done in Mexico, what do I do for a Doctor is something goes wrong or for check ups and weigh ins. This is the only question I don't seem to have an answer for yet. Please help. Sherri

I've been debating and debating and debating about this and hope for some help. I am jumping through hoops with my insurance and Doctors here and come to find out that even with my insurance with my deductible and 20 % of 26,000.00 I am going to spend just about as much as I would with Dr. Ortiz and here I'm going to have to be on a diet for at least 6 months. So, I've been checking into having done in Mexico. My husband has been very helpful usually, been married for 24 years and all for this and said I could use savings that we've been saving for him a big garage. That was sweet, here's the problem. He made the comment today that, well, If you don't think you can loose it on your own you'll just have to take that chance of having it done and dying that so many. I was floored and in tears. I wasn't scared at all until he made that comment. I started thinking I have 2 kids, 21, and 19, and my first grandbaby. If I did die it would be my fault, but guys, I've tried every diet in this world. I can't loose it. I'm 41, 5'7" and weigh 258 pounds. My life is horrible. I sit on the sidelines and watch. He's not overweight at all he has no idea. The other question is what happens if say I get home and God forbid, something goes wrong, I've heard the Doctors here won't touch you if you have problems.
