  1. Let me add, because of the band-induced bulimia that my previously perfect teeth have had to have fillings on the fronts of almost all of them because of the gum recession from all of the vomiting. And there seems to be no end to the recession, I'm scared of actually losing teeth.

Pros vs Cons of emptying band

My surgeon gave me a 'I can't believe you just asked me that ridiculous question' look when I asked about it. He said he doesn't empty the band before surgery.

    Cross Your Fingers For Me!

Woohoo they moved my surgery date up to 5/9! Now just insurance, EGD and pre-op certification to go!

    Call Me Dumb...but...

My surgeon OK'd greek yogurt with s/f preserves for full liquids. WOOHOO!!! I was so tired of protein shakes after pre-op for the band I thought I'd never be able to drink them again. My favorite, however, is Jay Robb. I get the vanilla and use almond milk and half of a crystal light orange. Sometimes if I'm feeling frisky I put in 1/2 a banana. Even without the banana it's very creamsicle-like. And usually I add a dash of half and half to up the fat, but that's not for all.
  5. Man I've been reading too much of this forum! I asked a co-worker if he would take the band out for me if I supplied the letter opener lol. I've always had trouble with throwing up, sliming, generally miserable and I'm ready for the sleeve. I've started the process but now that I've decided to do it the red tape is so maddening!!! I see a nutritionist Thursday...why, no idea!!!....then see the surgeon on the 24th...and then they'll start with insurance. And most likely I'll have to have an EGD but they won't schedule it yet. Looking at surgery at mid to late may if all goes well. I'm literally having nightmares of all the damage this thing has done or is doing between now and surgery. I know things can get serious after around the 2 year mark and I'm at 3. Wish me luck, I am so stressed out!
  6. I started out with a band at 269 lbs, got down to 170 and am currently back up to 200. I'm starting the process of revising to the band but I'll only ("only" lol) have 50 or 60 lbs to lose. I'm reading everyone's amazing stories of weight loss with the sleeve but I'm wondering what I should be hoping for (trying to avoid the word 'expect') as far as weight loss. From what I was told with the band, the less you need to lose the slower it goes and I'm hoping it won't be TOOOOOOO slow. I'm doing the zombie 5K in november and I gotta get back to my jogging weight!
  7. No, I have the band now and I'm going to sleeve.
  8. Have you checked out the board here for band to sleeve revisions? LOTS of positive info on the process and the outcome. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/13-band-to-gastric-sleeve-revisions/
  9. I'm tired of throwing up. I'm tired of not being able to eat in the morning because I'm dehydrated. Have to drink 24 oz of water or a protein shake otherwise I throw everything up all day. I spend more time on liquids then solids. I go for a fill, have ot get unfilled. Get hungry, gain weight. Get a fill, end up overfilled. Eat nothing but ice cream so I can get something down. Gain weight. Get unfilled. Hungry and eat everything. etc etc etc etc etc etc. Tired of it. And I've read a lot of posts here about people who had serious damage done to their bodies by the band. My surgeon's wife just told me today that they went to a seminar and it was said that the band actually slows metabolism after a year or two, which may be why so many ppl with the band gain weight back. I asked if she thought they might stop giving pppl the option of the band and she said no, they'll still offer it but it has lost a LOT of steam now that insurance companies are covering the sleeve now.

Can't Believe I Just Ate All Of That!

Easy to make your own BTW, just get a can of refried beans, shredded cheddar and taco sauce. Throw the beans and cheese in the micro til the cheese melts and pour some taco sauce on top. I ate that during mushies for the band. That way you can control how much and can add more sauce if it needs to go down easier.

BTW, EGDs on banded ppl blow

Can you really not drive after it's done? I may have to take a taxi because there's no way I could get a ride.

BTW, EGDs on banded ppl blow

Thanks for the heads up, I'm trying to get my EGD scheduled now for my (hope) revision
  13. Oh I'm jealous. I hope my approval goes through! I lost 90 with the band and then gained 30 back. They're going with the 'didn't lose enough weight' and the fact that I'm still on BP meds (even though that's not actually why my doctor gave it to me, my BP is fine). I will be heartbroken if there's an issue. I hate this band and what it gone, even if I have to rip it out myself! Oooooh, that sounded kinda psycho...

Pros vs Cons of emptying band

Thanks for this thread, I didn't even think to ask my surgeon if/when my band would be emptied if I'm approved for revision. I'm starting a list of things to ask!
  15. I have a band and am going through the process to get the sleeve. I have been reading this forum like crazy and haven't found anyone saying they didn't love their sleeve and say the band was the worst thing they'd done. I like the sleeve now because it's a stepping stone to bypass and I really don't like the bypass so if I HAD to I could still go to bypass. There's a thread specificially for revisions of band to sleeve that may help you. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/forum/13-band-to-gastric-sleeve-revisions/
  16. You can get a 3 can pack at amazon for $11 if you want to try it first for a little less money. they have chocolate and vanilla http://www.amazon.co...34764674&sr=8-8 Oh, and I was reading some of the reviews and this seems like a good idea too. I'll have to try it when I get approved (hopefully) for my revision... " You can not get any better. This pudding is fantastic! The can is plenty enough to get 2 servings out of it & then some. Depends on if you mix it with something or just plain. So really your getting at least 12 servings in a 6pk. I absolutely LOVE to take the Chobani Vanilla Greek Yogurt & mix 1/2 chocolate pudding & 1/2 Chobani, 1tbl of natural granola, 1t of Peanut Butter & sometimes for an extra kick all natural maple syrup! ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!!! It definetly satisfies your sweet tooth, but in a SUPER CHARGED Protein dessert! "
  17. When I had my tummy tuck done I was told over and over again that it is completely normal to go through a depressed stage afterwards. It's just a drop in adrenaline. You've been so excited and revved up and ready to go for this surgery and now it's.....over......now what? EVERYONE goes through it, some more than others. Just go to support groups and maybe bring it up - I'm willing to bet most new post-ops are feeling it and are just as scared as you to bring it up because they also think it's not normal. But it totally is...good luck to you!
  18. It seems most to all Band surgeons have their patients do the low-carb diet. After reading a bunch of posts here most people say they eat whatever they want, just in little quantities. What did everyone's surgeon tell them? I don't see mine til next week so I"m just curious if it's any different or if eating the 'little bit of anything' is for those that are maintaining.
  19. I have my binder left over from my tummy tuck, would that be as helpful as a pillow? It's elastic and just wraps around so it can be removed whenever quite easily.

    Makes sense! Thanks!

    Exercise

I'm sure after the surgery you should be up and walking as much as possible, but about how long until you can do something like jogging again? With my tummy tuck it was 6 weeks but I'm not sure whether a tummy tuck is a better or worse surgery than a revision...
  22. Mine hasn't checked anything. I asked about a slip the last time I went in but they seem to go with the 'you'll know if it has slipped' and let it go at that.
  23. I would have some reflux after a vomiting episode but not random reflux.
