  1. The nutritionist persuaded me to give up coffee for several of the reasons already listed, and I did so for a few weeks post-op, with no apparent benefit. So now I'm back to a cup or two a day, certainly not an excessive amount. I'm just not into keeping myself in a state of constant self-denial. In fact that has never worked for me in the past, and I inevitably succumbed to eating things I REALLY shouldn't. I mean, I've already changed my eating habits significantly by giving up so many foods I used to love but which are clearly the enemy of weight loss. Coffee, on the other hand, has ZERO calories; it makes me feel good, perks me up a bit; it tastes warm, rich and comforting; it has no apparent ill effects on me; it does not keep me awake at night; it does not upset my stomach. Sorry, but I'm going to keep on drinking it no matter what the food nazis say.
  2. Roberta, congratulations on meeting the September Challenge! As for myself, I'll be there by Friday! This has been a good month indeed! 3. I'm down with that, Julie. I like the Let's Try Something New Once part.
  4. 11 down, 4 to go. I can do this! In fact I'm quite liking the way I feel after a movement class and a daily lap swim. My life tends to be otherwise very sedentary, so this feels great! September Challenge 1) 9/11: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 2) 9/12: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 3) 9/13: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 4) 9/14: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 5) 9/15: 30-min treadmill, 30-min lap swim 6) 9/18: 1-hr movement class 7) 9/19: 1-hr yoga class 8) 9/20: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 9) 9/21: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 10) 9/22: 30-min lap swim 11) 9/25: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim
  5. Boo, that's great news! Maybe moving down that one pound will be like a dam breaking, and you'll continue to lose more consistently, without a lengthy, demoralizing plateau. Size 12, here you come!
  6. MomofSixKids: The list you updated with your own stats was NOT the most recent, and several people's new weights were dropped. Please! This will not work unless everyone updates the MOST RECENT LIST. If you don't know what you're doing, just post your weight loss, and someone else will update the list for you! 4-3: JenRN - 263/257/238/150 - 25 total 4-3: jenn28 - 282/265/229/165 - 53 total 4-3: Picardy3 - 298/300/271/150 - 29 total 4-3: tipper - 300/290/259/165 - 41 total 4-4: Sugar1 - 311/289/231/150 - 80 total 4-4: Dak – 255/251/205/150 – 50 total 4-4: Angels - 264/255/235/? - 29 total 4-4: Harpseal Al - 327/295/220 - 34 total 4-5: Boo - 208/203/178/130 - 30 total 4-5: siestaqh - 180+/177/136/110 - 44 total 4-6: Disneynut - 290/287/260/125 - 27 total 4-7: Guysis - 234/190.5/134 - 43.5 total 4-10: JulieNYC - 358/270/150 - 88 total 4-11: Vickie1177 - 320/297/267/137 - 53 total 4-11: tellymelly - 240/235/184/135 - 55 total 4-11: Fel0816 - 307/284/265/to get under 200 - 42 total 4-11: dsrjrr - 231/230/210/130 - 21 total 4:11: truckinmama - 262/234/160 - 28 total 4-13: Nursekathy2u - 358/356/335/175 - 23 total 4-13: NJgirl - 248/230/206/140 - 42 total 4-13: Miper70 - 217.5/196/145 - 21.5 total 4-17: Amourette - 22.5 total 4-17: Jeepergurrl - 242/207/140 - 35 total 4-17: MelAnne - 245/207/150 - 38 total 4-18: Danaclark2 - 270/260.5/245/150 - 25 total 4-18: LapBandit - 392/369/347/336/324/308/298 - 94 total 4-20: Omamoon - 220/211.5/188/130 - 32 total 4-20: KimInMD - 288/288/253/156 - 35 total 4-21: Yoda - 273/257/225/150 - 48 total 4-21: kristielynn - 310/302/248/150 - 62 total 4-22: alisonb - 286/270/176 - 16 total 4-24: Eficka - 125/117/105/69 - 20 kgs/44 lbs. total 4-24: Ceparano - 255/270.5/225/170 - 45 total 4-24: Kat - 289/281/228.5/165 - 60.5 total 4-24: hlj25950 - 262/257/225/160 - 37 total 4-25: momof2boys - 270/266/237/145 - 33 total 4-26: Bostongurl - 264/244/204/145 - 60 total 4-27: tinaj - 226/221/210/150 - 15 total 4-27: lookingout - 185/178/165/101 - 20 total 4-27: flowergoddesstn - 214/204/190/130 - 24 total 4-27: Dimples0323 - 284/284/241/145 - 43 total 4-28: Susan4794 - 283/267/247.8/140 - 35.2 total 4-28: bluehill - 333/261/140 - 72 total 4-28: Irish Girl - 224/214/175/135 - 49 total 4-28: MomofSixKids - 240/238/205/150 - 35 total
  7. Thanks for the good words, guys. Yikes, Julie, I can't believe you can do 72 minutes on the elliptical! I tire easily on that thing, after maybe 10 minutes or so. Plus the mental boredom of the same movement for that length of time would do me in. Do you read, watch TV, listen to music while exercising?

  9. jeepers, you have a lot of hoops to jump through, lilnena! Much more extensive than my surgeon's requirements, or my insurance company's. But hang tough in dealing with the system, because the band is definitely worth it.
  10. Apparently the plateau/pause that I was on has broken big-time. Yesterday I reported on a one-day weight loss of 3.6 lbs. Well this morning the scale yielded another 3-lb loss for a total of 6.6 lbs in two days. I'm so excited, and I have a new ticker. Hooray! I was faithful in exercising every day this week, and now with just one full week left in September, I know that I'll be able to meet the Challenge. September Challenge 1) 9/11: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 2) 9/12: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 3) 9/13: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 4) 9/14: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 5) 9/15: 30-min treadmill, 30-min lap swim 6) 9/18: 1-hr movement class 7) 9/19: 1-hr yoga class 8) 9/20: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 9) 9/21: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 10) 9/22: 30-min lap swim
  11. Best of luck on your upcoming surgery. You'll do great, and you're doing something great for yourself. Here's a handy BMI calculator: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/
  12. Hey, folks, thanks for all the positive feedback! Yes, I've been feeling remarkably "light" all day, moving around with great ease -- almost dancing, Susan! I've noticed a big change in flexibility and balance with just two weeks of movement and yoga classes. But most beneficial has been the simple desire to get off my butt and move around more.
  13. Have a great time in the Lone Star State, Kat! Sounds like you'll be getting quite a workout, so you won't miss Curves at all! Good luck with your diet while hanging with the inlaws. That can be very challenging. You have our support, so HANG TOUGH! My mini-plateau/pause finally broke today! The scale moved down 3.6 lb in one day! I'm gonna wait until tomorrow before I change my Ticker, though, just to make sure. But overall, i have lost 4.4 lbs since I started the exercise regimen on 9/11. September Challenge 1) 9/11: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 2) 9/12: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 3) 9/13: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 4) 9/14: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 5) 9/15: 30-min treadmill, 30-min lap swim 6) 9/18: 1-hr movement class 7) 9/19: 1-hr yoga class 8) 9/20: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 9) 9/21: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim
  14. What does it do? Is it an appetite suppressant?
  15. WhooooooHoooooo! That's great, Roberta! (What is Trimspa?)
  16. I was at the chiropractor's today -- I do a monthly maintenance -- and he commented on my weight loss. Well I guess he would know! heh September Challenge 1) 9/11: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 2) 9/12: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 3) 9/13: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 4) 9/14: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 5) 9/15: 30-min treadmill, 30-min lap swim 6) 9/18: 1-hr movement class [pool closed due to chlorine problem. grrrr] 7) 9/19: 1-hr yoga class [pool still closed. double grrrr] 8) 9/20: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim [Pool reopened!!! Hooray!!! Did two extra laps to celebrate]
  17. You betcha. Especially mine. After going for years without a scale, cuz I really didn't want to know how much I weighed, I finally bought a new one in honor of my banding -- a VERY ATTRACTIVE [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000245PDG/102-6727335-3514511?ie=UTF8%3Cbr%20/%3E]Tanita digital scale.[/ame] It has turned out to be excessively evil, a lying devil that NEVER gives the same weight twice in a row, even if it's just 10 seconds later. And the weight goes up or down (mostly up, it seems) by as much as a pound or two. I should have returned it, but alas I didn't, and now I'm stuck with it. Like I said, it's very attractive.
  18. Oh yeah, me too. I keep track of my weight on a daily basis, plus what I eat and how much I exercise. I admit, it's a bit obsessive, but what the hell, it's working. Keeping a detailed record of my progress has been very useful, and it definitely helps me to make wise food choices.
  19. Second week of exercise, and I'm still on track. It must all be turning to muscle, though, because I haven't lost an ounce since I started! And I'm still eating the same old poached fish & steamed veggies. I know the scale will drop eventually, but THIS IS NOT FAIR!!! September Challenge 1) 9/11: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 2) 9/12: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 3) 9/13: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 4) 9/14: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 5) 9/15: 30-min treadmill, 30-min lap swim 6) 9/18: 1-hr movement class [pool closed due to chlorine problem. grrrr] 7) 9/19: 1-hr yoga class [pool still closed. double grrrr]
  20. I have NO idea where that is. And since I don't, I'm obviously of no help. The closest support group for me is an hour away, so I don't even bother with that. This forum has become my support group. And the convenient thing is, it's as close as my computer and available 24/7.
  21. Hi, Aza, and welcome aboard this amazing journey! When you need support, we're here for you, 24/7.
  22. Way to go, Dak! An even 50 lbs., almost half way there! And look how close you are to Onederland! Round of applause for Dak, please! :clap2::clap2::clap2:
  23. I definitely haven't found my sweet spot yet, so I have another fill scheduled for next week (my fourth). The amount of restriction I have at this point makes me eat more carefully, more slowly, and take smaller bites -- and when I'm careless, I have suffered episodes of PBing. What I have not experienced, however, is a restriction on the amount of food I can eat. I would like not to be able to eat a large volume of food, even if it is only steamed veggies! September Challenge 1) 9/11: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 2) 9/12: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 3) 9/13: 1-hr movement class, 30-min lap swim 4) 9/14: 1-hr yoga class, 30-min lap swim 5) 9/15: 30-min treadmill, 30-min lap swim 6) 9/18: 1-hr movement class [pool was closed due to chlorine problem. grrrr]
  24. Ceparano, a 20-min workout when you're not feeling well is definitely the equivalent of a regular 30-min session. With all the sweat and extra effort put out by the body, it's probably worth even more, so please give yourself full credit!
