  1. Hi freckles glad you back with us, your post op diet is the same as my daughter who was done by bupa/spire, its got more variety, and she did well on it. Please dont feel any different to the rest of us an alternative method might be useful to us. Isnt it always the way we want only what we cant have, a little wouldnt do much harm at this early stage would it. I was the same, I wanted belgium choc only because I was'nt allowed it, I did suck one and it satisfied my craving, and I have'nt needed one since, besides load of visitors have called in because they knew i was going to belgium, and they wanted my chololates with their coffee. Not many people know the real reason why I went through
  2. Hi Gary, I continued with the dutch cripsbreads they gave us have 2-3 for breakfast it sets me up for the day and so i have'nt felt hungry till about 2.30, I've been having lentil soup because that is heavier and more filling. I'm not sure if we should eat those crispbreads now but as long as I eat them slowely I dont have any adverse effects. When Sian had her op at BUPA she was on soft/sloppy food within 3 days post op so each consultant has slightly different advise to give, i think her 1st food was runny ready break (not real porridge) but she was soon onto fish pie well mashed up i also remember adding extra milk to the pie to make it more sloppy. Have you tried protein drinks (lighter life and cambridge diet or the body building stuff they sell in gyms) they might make you feel more satisfied. You healed very quickly, it must have been that double dose of barium you had, and your gallop to the loo (hee hee) :tongue2:
  3. Hi lewisabbey, the journey coming back was quite good other than when we were already boarded it was noticed that the plane had a flat tyre and they kept us onboard for close to 1.5 hours before it was fixed and was able to take off, but the flight was only 1 hour. returning in the car was just fine. I felt a little tired when we got home but not really in any pain, just a bit sore. Sounds as if garry is just fine, but I knew he would be, he is so fit regularly going to the gym, and he easily out walked me when we were discharged. Good job his mum is a nurse, she'll slow him down if he tries to do to much to soon
  4. Hi Gary, glad you've joined us, hope you've been well today, I have'nt needed any medication, but tonight I have a little soreness around the port so I might just take disolving p aracetamol before bed. lewisabbey you must be feeling a lot better if your feeling hungary, you need to catch up on at least 3 days of fluids, bless you i was getting worried. hope mum is getting better aswell
  5. Hi angie I also had my band fitted on the 13th in Belgium, I flew back to the UK yesterday, but dont have back pain, the port is still uncomfortable, are you still taking pain relief medication
  6. Hi Gary how are you feeling, come and chat with the gang

  7. I want one of those tickers but not very good with technology can anyone help please WELCOME JACKSMUM wow you have had a fantastic result who and where are you having you band fills. I've just been banded and have'nt made any decision about aftercare providers yet.
  8. Welcome back, and I am so glad your both feeling better, it must have hard not having a helper with you I have been thinking about you and hoping all turned out ok. The cripbread I've been having are the same ones that the hospital gave us, I've had 3 for breakfast with small amount of smooth jam, (they melt so no lumps are swallowed) and for lunch third of a can of lentil soup, in addition I have had 1 tea 1coffee 2 hottish ribena tooth kind. I'll try a smooth yogurt tonight but not sure how that will work out . I know we are not counting calories but old habits die hard and that will take me to less that 400 for the day. I'll pass on your regards to Sian, she'll be happy your on the mend. love mmm
  9. MBT trainers are a negative heel trainer used to excercise the legs when walking, it feels like walking on sand and does not jar the heel and ankle. Only buy them if you are going to use them afterwards as they are expensive around £100, but they are great for walking or supermarket shopping. They look like trainers with platforms, they have an adjustable clip so they can be slipped on, a bonus is that they correct your posture, and I felt much less pain when I had them on even compared to not having any shoes on at all. You might have seen photos of madonna wearing them caus she wears them a lot of the time.
  10. Thanks for your good wishes everyone, I'm feeling fine, and only work from home so I'll get plenty of rest. Breakfast TV here I come. I slept well last night not waking up until 7.30 this morning so I did'nt need pain killers, can I suggest that those who have'nt gone for the op yet start walking regularly, The three of us who were up and about quickly with little pain were all regular walkers so it seems to have helped. My band is a heliogast evolution which should take about 7ml as a max, others in the group had heliogast advanced or advantage (but I dont know what the difference is) and also two of the men had the Johnson & Johnson SAAg (or something like that). Lewisabbey and mum had a bit of a rough ride I think because of arriving very late at the hotel, and then having their op times altered. I would deff advise booking directly with fredrick, as my original time for the op was 4.30, and his other client was for 3.30, but when he came to see us in the ward he said he would try and arrange for us to be moved to an earliet slot and he did so by 4 hour, which meant I was being operated on by 12 midday. And his other client went in at 11.00. So thank to Frederick I had longer to recover. OOPPS ive just looked at the calorie count for the belgium choc I bought they are 200 EACH so no more of them. But I really enjoy the trimlyne crispbreads from ASDA they're like the dutch crispbreads but wholewheat and only 36 cal each theyre great with philly cheese or jam. so I'm having those for breakfast. I'm still getting used to not having a drink with food, but I dont want to swish the food through too quickly, so will stick to it. The injection are going ok I can do it myself without any trouble, they just sting slightly but dont hurt . I've had to take the white socks off, even through you should keep them on for 5 days. My skin was dry and flaking under them, and needed moisuriser. I was also told under no circunstances bath within the first 10 day only shower. So I had a lovely pampering Molton Brown Blissfull Templetree shower this morning and covered myself with lashing of body butter. I might look like something the cat just dragged in but I smell wonderful. Good tip about wearing jogging bottoms or really streatchy trousers and loose tops, can I also add slip on flat shoes I wore MBT trainers and the air soles were very much appreciated, dont go out and but them specially but if you've got them or intend to get them, that made walking easy with no jolting and I would highly recommend them.
  11. HI EVERYONE i'm BACK all went well I came home afew hours ago and am still a bit sore, Yes fredirick, Chris and Dr Chris are fab and the barium is a laxative but it helps to shift the wind, I think I was one of the group that recovered the quickest, I was up and dresses by 8am the day after the op. Can I make a big suggestion Make Sure You Have A Helper with you for the return journey. I am so grateful for my daughters support and assistance. We met some fab people and had quite a good social evening on the Saturday night back at the hotel post op. The painkillers given by the hospital are good if they put in WARM water (no fizz) the nurofen melts went down well as well as the remegel, so thanks everyone for you suggestions. I also took sachets of horlicks with me to mix with water and they were fab. I took tea bags as suggested and that was a great tip oopps only thing was i kinda liked dippin biscuits into it and sucked them up like a hoover (i restricted myself to only 2 a day) I have stuck to liquids with exception of soggy biscuits and sucking a belgium choc, and of course the dutch cripbread that they give you in the hospital - lovely with apricot jam. the soup they gave us was asparagus yuuuk did not even take a teaspoon of that because it was full of salt. I've still got a bit of wind, but the bad wind pain has now gone, but did'nt have any shoulder pain. Thank you all so much for you kind wishes, in the darkest and most painful moments it was a blessing to know that others cared. thank you. I'll post again soon to give more info cheers I'm now on the bandwagon.
  12. Well girls its nearly time, I'm packed and ready, we leave tomorrow thurs at 9am and are flying out of heathrow on the 14.40. I'm not nervous now only excited and really pleased that the roads are clear of snow. Have you heard on the news today about the plane crash in Wales. It happened about half mile away from where I live, my daughters boyfriend was an eye witness and saw the plane explode, so we've had a very traumatic day what with helicopters fire engine and more police than you can shake a stick at. Thank goodness I'm a frequent flyer its enough to put anyone off who's not. When I post next it'll probably to say that I'm on the bandwagon. Yippee.

    Great News

Fab news I'm glad to hear all has gone well for you. I'm flying to Belgium tomorrow for my op on Fri. Yippee
  14. Hi fatpants, dont be hard on yourself your just normal, most people are insecure about themselves at some time, and your time is now, chin up hun, dont beat yourself up the food thing is what we've all done that why we're here, and I know I ate more than usual when I was given my op date its like a licence, and freedom, beacuse you know that just around the corner is the answer to being the person you want to be. So enjoy it. My husband got a little bit moody about me having the op. and he forbid it on financial ground, because thats all he could find to dissuade me. (but I have my own funds, so that did'nt work). Anyway its much closer to the date now and he's come around even offering to accompany me and my daughter. I am convinced his attitude was more to do with a change which he felt insecure about. "what if I became slim and became more attractive to other men would I leave him - would there be a change, he could not cope with". Both he and I know, I put on weight to avoid, unwanted attention from other men, and that was the way I dealt with it. But now I'm 50+, I've got the confidence to deal with it (and of course the looks are gone, and the only men I could now attract are a bit passed doing anything about it now. Both your sister and you husband sound as if they are a bit insecure about any positive changes you are making, so make allowances and prove to them that you are a strong and open person and the fat is just a disguise on your body that you no longer want or need
  15. Hi fatpants, the info sheets from Frederick and Dr Chris just say low fat diet, so I have'nt done it, I wished they given specific info, because I just dont do LOW FAT, I would need bullying and very strict instruction to stick to anything, something like :- DO NOT EAT might have worked for a few days. So, as you can amagine i'm 4 days off going to Belgium and have'nt started low fat anything. But on a good note my blood pressure has droped to an acceptable level, and my colesterol is normal. Lets hope the snow storms hold off, the snow around Bristol is still very high at around 2ft plus, and the severn bridge is still closed.
  16. Week today hun and it'll all be over> I'm really scared and excited at the same time, are you on your pre op diet, I cany stick to mine oopps

  17. Yes its a week today, snow willing, I think I got everything I need, but I've got palpitations, high blood pressure and migraine, just thinking about it. I'll be a nervous wreck by the time I get there, and Im not going into the unknown like some of you, as I went through it all with my daughter. You must have been so scared. But I am so glad you are all doing so well, and I am reading this thread daily even if I dont reply. That reminds me Lewis Abbey and mum must be feeling the same as me, I'll give her a quick pm cause I know shes very busy with her toddlers. xxmmmxx
  18. I need to allow about 3.5 to 4 hrs and that is if all the road are not delayed because of snow, I get on the M4 about quarter mile from my house then its one road all the way to Heathrow so fingers crossed the M4 will be open ok. Its closed today so I would'nt have got through, I'm getting migraine thinking about it. But I've just decided that if the weather is still bad I might try to make my way to closer to the airport on night before and find a travel lodge or something, and hope the flights are still running. I wind myself up so easily; I went to the doctors for my annual MOT and my blood pressure was up to 187 its never been more that 130 before and is usually 124, so I've got to go back every morning now. I hav'nt told my doctor about being banded, so I hope this wont effect anything.
  19. Naughty flirtylass  its so busy here I can hardly keep up what with - working, snowballing and panicking. But this thread is such a source of info and support, it brings some sanity to my rushed life. You are doing so well, the whole group of post bandsters are such an inspiration, to us wannabees. Keep on posting. PLEASE.
  20. Hi everybody, sorry I have'nt been on for the last 5 days, boy, has this thread moved on, so just a quick update - the pre op diet has been pants, I've no motivation at the moment, and been panicking about the weather and flights being cancelled, I keep hoping all will be ok for next Thurs. I've got to get from Wales to Heathrow then my flight onto Belgium. So I'm hoping the roads will be clear and my flight will be going. The Euro rate I got was 1.09 to the pound so not to bad.
  21. welcome back TC and Tamisu, I'm so pleased it all went well for you. I start my pre op diet on Monday although I dont think I'll be very strict, - if I could stick to a diet I would'nt be this size now, but I'll give it a try. Lewisabbey, and mum are being done on the same day, so no doubt they are feeling a bit jittery as well. I've ordered my euros, bought my medication, floppy bra, sloppy joggers, travel size toiletries, so I'm more or less ready now.

    Recommendations for the operation

me too I'm using Dr Chris, cost for package 4075 euro plus £140 return flight for 2 people from Heathrow to Brussels, I being banded on 13th Feb, waiting time from enquiery approx 6 weeks. BMI 35, and he said yes its ok
  23. I LOVE GOK, he must have been so close to where you live when he did the interview with Joe. I'm so jealous. The programme last night was so supportive to the victims of fatism, and that Gok presented with integrity, honesty and understanding. Its more programms like that, which are aimed at vunerable people, giving them support and friendship that are needed, and not the uneducated crass comments of Vicky Gervais. Sorry to get stroppy I'll get off my soap box now, however I will be writing to channel 4 congratulating them on such a good programme.
  24. Hi Sammy, when I had my date confirmed I just printed off the attachment I recieved headed offer, there is no diet sheet but on the other attachments there is some advice like "follow a low fat diet" , when I booked my flights I just e.mailed him my time of arrival and my room requirements - two seperate beds in the room - because my daughter is travelling with me. after a short while he did confirm that everything was in place for me - hope this helps.
  25. Hi Babe, please dont beat youself up, your doing great, its just a small set back, most of us would normally eat that without thinking twice, and look what your doing to improve your health in the long run. Start again its not even worth getting upset about. The reason we have put on excess weight is because we have eaten when we're not hungry, so hay guess what - your normal. Love and Hugs mmm
