  1. This isn't exactly a mantra, but at 62 I know that I want my hubby and I to grow old together (ok really old!) and if I don't change my eating and exercise habits, my pre existing conditions will cut my life short. My hubby is diabetic and he needs to increase his exercise too. That is my motivation. In a nutshell,

    USE IT OR LOSE IT!

  2. Hi, Debbie. You and I have a lot in common! I had RNY surgery 10/2009 and for the first time have gained 11 pounds. My hubby and I started at the YMCA but I am still a stress eater. Have you increased your exercise or lowered your calorie intake? I am pulling for us both to succeed at this. Katie

  3. Hi, I had gastric bypass. Due to a congenital disorder, my body makes no thyroid at all and I take .225 mg of Levothyxrine daily. My weight loss was quite consistent, my surgeon and I were both pleased when I got to my goal weight. I have since gained 8 pounds but don't believe it is thyroid related but putting too much food in my stomach. You can do this and be very successful. Best of luck to you in your weight loss journey!

  4. 1. My experiences may not be like everyone else's, but I thought I would feel like doing more in the hospital than I did: I brought laptop, books, stationery. I watched tv and visited with my hubby and that was all I did! All the things I brought, I did not need.

    2. Water, Water, water. I have never been as good as drinking water as I should be. As I have gained10-12#, i'm just now getting back into drinking the water. Yes, I was told to drink water, but never realized how invaluable it is to continued weight loss. Loved flavored water, crystal light or mio.

    3. Support-you have to have someone in your corner who will unconditionally love and support you. I had my husband, daughters and sister and brother in law-they all made such a difference.

    4. Since #2 we've all been told about, I thought I would add to make use of your pre-op time by setting up recipes that can easily be made up in advance of your surgery that you can have when you get home. Either make and freeze the recipes, or just write them up on recipe cards for your post op life. I still have a hard time making Protein rich breakfasts when I have to run to work. All the best!

  5. Hi, I had really bad gas after I had my gallbladder removed about 10 years ago, but with the gastric bypass it got even worse (if possible!). Poor husband puts up with it but when I worked in an office I was kind of the "butt" of jokes about it. Now I will try your suggestions!

  6. Hi, I had Roux-en-y surgery in Oct 2009. At 5'1", I weighed 194 pounds. I got to 132 pounds, a place I was very comfortable at, although 125 would probably be better. I maintained my weight for the first 3-1/2 years, but over the past 6 or so months, I have put on 10-12 pounds. I haven't been separating my liquids and solids probably since the beginning and without realizing it, I was dumping much more than I should have, and I worry that I may have stretched my pouch a bit. Looking for support and am more than willing to offer my support to anyone!

  7. Wow, Kyley. Thats' fantastic weight loss after only a week! I'm new to this site, hope to get approval for lap band in the next few days. I've pestered my doctor for over a month now to get me approved, and he's hemmed and hawed, asking 2x what I've done in the past to lose weight, then asked me again, like I hadn't already told him!

Hoping I'll have better luck in the future, or I'm changing ins!

Best of luck to you with continued weight loss and great health! Katie:thumbs_up:

  8. Hi, my name is Katie. I'm 57 years old, married with 2 daughters and 2 grandkids, a boy and a girl. I don't necessarily think I'm really a low BMI, only to my insurance company who thinks I have to have a BMI of 40 AND a comorbidity. I think I have a BMI of btwn 37-38. I weight 190# and am only 5'1" tall. I have Group Health Insurance (Northwest Wa area) and also Regence Blue Shield thru my husband's employer.

Are most of you self-pay? Any of you had surgery in Mexico, and are you happy with your results? How about those with insurance pay-any have either of my above two ins companies?

Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you! Katie:girl_hug:
