energy levels
I didn't have alot of energy for about a week after it.... due to the anesthesia. I could tell it was more a result of the medication rather than intake. I still got up and walked twice a day about half a mile.. and in the house every hour or so. My body would be so drained that I actually wanted to get up and move around. Then... the more you move around, the better you feel... and going into this I KNEW that I had to increase my exercise so mentally, I looked forward to the walks. Best wishes!!!

Before and DURING pics
I still have a LONG way to go but it's encouraging to see a little improvement. Thanks Missy for the recommendation to do this from time to time. It was also fun to try on some of my old cloths tonight. I actually fit in a pair of pants that someone gave me YEARS ago that I was never able to wear. Work in progress............ First pic is 3 days post op..... Second pic is 22 days post op

Calling all April Bandsters!!!!
For those of you who are still on mushies.... do you eat 3 oz of mushies and stop? It seems alot more will fit!! I keep saying I'm not getting that hungry but I'm wondering if it's because I'm eating too much. I'm not eating bad stuff... everything is on the list of ok to eat. Like today for lunch I had black eyed peas... but more than 3 oz. Should I be eating ONLY 3 oz. (which is NOT alot) per meal? Then I WOULD be understanding the bandster hell.

bsbc of alabama
Did your surgeon send in for preapproval? Have you finished all of the surgeon's requirements? I also have BCBS of AL and everything went fine. I haven't seen the EOB for the surgeon but the rest was covered at the percentage they agreed to. (80%) Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients
Shawna I know you're excited to get them staples out. I sure slept better after they were gone!! I am now able to sleep on my left side without that pulling feeling.. that went on after staples were removed but thank God it's gone now. We had a great weekend in Mississippi with my family. Friday was my first day on mushies and I haven't done so well with that. I did loose(which suprised me.. I figured I would gain when starting them) but have had some pretty painful chest pain every since I started. I emailed Veronica today and she suggested that I go back to full liquids for tonight and talk with Lisa to see if they may have put fluid in when they did the surgery. She said either I'm making bad food choices or may need to remove some fluid (If I do have some fill.. I don't want to remove any of it). I was eating what was on the paperwork but was mixing food together. ex: mashed potatos and mac n cheese. I don't remember them telling us not to do that but it's very possible that they did. So we'll see. Missy.... I think you're doing fine! I was off work for 6 days (including surgery day) and then on my first day back to work, I gave out around 3. Take it slow! Once I was feeling better, I went wild. Riding bikes for 5 miles, walking 2 or 3 times a day... then it all caught up with me. Last Tuesday I was praying God would help me get home alive. I was almost falling asleep at the wheel.. came home and crashed at 5:30 and slept until the next day. So don't over do it. Take your time but do get SOME walking in. How's your gas pain? Port pain? etc... I don't remember reading how your surgery went.

Gas like chest pain, just started mushies..??
Hey Advengers. I need some help, advice, comfort... SOMETHING haha I just started mushies Friday (3 days ago) I've eaten mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, pureed black eyed peas, refried Beans, backed potato with melted cheese, crackers (after chewing chewing chewing) apple sauce, sherbert... I think that's all. Oh Saturday morning I did try a maybe 3 bites of grits and 3 bites of scrabbled eggs.... all of this in VERY small portions and all are on my list of "can eats". Starting Saturday around 12:30 pm I started getting this pretty tough chest pain. It felt like TIGHTNESS. I had eaten around 8:30 and nothing else until about 4:30 due to the pain. After eating apple sauce it got better. Then around 8pm I ate some baked potato and here it came again... lasted all night. Woke up this morning with the same pain. It felt like what was explained as gas pain but I never had after the surgery.. until now. Now everytime I eat something.. It starts. I took 3 gas x strips today and it got better. Just ate some sf pudding... it's back. Is it normal for the food to cause gas pain? I'm not using a straw, not drinking while I eat (which is hardddd by the way). Surely this can't go on forever. I can't live on gas x strips. I wonder if the chewables will work better and longer.. and are they ok to use? Any advice???

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients
Hey Shawna! This is hilarious! I sooo agree. I would have never showed my stomach to the people who have seen it lately haha! I guess it's pride that we are doing something to get rid of it.. see it while you can haha. I've been out of town this weekend and wanted to check on you. How are you doing now? Pain getting better?

Insulin Resistance
Hey! Congrats on having a date set and that's awesome that you and your mom are having this together. I think it's encouraging to have someone to walk this journey with you! I have PCOS and it should like that's what your systems are from. I've only been banded 2 weeks so I can't speak on the symptoms going away but I have always been told that with PCOS, you always have the disease but the symptoms disappear as you loose weight. I'm sure hoping this to be true for me!!! I was taking Metformin for the IR and was told by the surgeon to stop taking it after surgery. It took me forever to get my body used to that medication but I was happy to be able to stop taking it!! Good luck! Keep us updated as you go!

Dr. Miles or Dr. Schmitt patients
Glad to hear from you Shawna! One day at a time you'll get to feeling better and be back to yourself soon! I will start mushies tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it but afraid of gaining at the same time. Food has almost become my enemy lol. As far as the last 10 or so days.. I've been having the VHT Smoothie Extremes (from the apathocary), Carnation Instant Breakfast (no suger added w fat free milk) cream of chicken soup, sf popsicles, sf jello, some juices (when I noticed the carbs I stopped drinking them) tomato soup (wasn't crazy about that) and pro cal 100 pudding (15 grams of protein) from the apathocary. (pretty filling) I purchased some brocolli and cheese soup but never tried it. My meals have been pretty much the same from day 4-14 but thank God that part is about over. I think all the soup, with the sodium in it, was not helping me to loose.

April Advengers Exercise!!
That's great Don!! I think I must have been overdoing it and it all caught up with me yesterday. I was a little sore around the port area and when I got home yesterday, I crashed!!! Asleep as soon as by head hit the pillow and didn't get up until 6:30 this morning.. matter of fact I thought I wasn't going to make it home without pulling over and taking a nap. Needless to say I didn't get any exercise in. We have church tonight so I did go walking at work today to get SOMETHING in.
