  1. CONGRATULATIONS!! You're banded!! Through all the pain it's hard to remember that you are banded isn't it. I know when I woke up in recovery I thought I was DYING!! Girl I would have DH or Mom pharmacy hopping to get that prescription filled. DH went to the apothacary to fill mine when I was still in the short stay room. I think it would have been better to have given us the prescription at preop but oh well. I'm glad you're home and doing as well as you can. Try to walk every hour or so and do your breathing exercises. I never had REAL pain from the gas once I got home and I think that's due to the walking and the gas x strips. Keep us upated as you feel better!! Thanks for the update!
  2. Hope all is going well Shawna! Girl I wasn't up to typing or reading for a day or so either but we do look forward to hearing from you!!
  3. It's totally normal! I spent 8 months preparing for the surgery and when it got as close as a week or so... I started getting a little nervous. My doctor only required the liquids the day before which worried me due to the issues I had read about the liver. As far as I know.. he had no problem! Trust in what YOUR doctor tells you to do. He knows what is best for his abilities! I took it as my doctor knew enough about what he was doing that he could handle it. And he did. Stay focused on the goal!! You'll do FINE!!
  4. I am 12 days post op. Stiches are out. I can sleep well on my right side but the left.... I sleep fine on it but when it's time to roll over or get up from directly being on the left side... OH THE PAIN!! It feels like someone has a needle sticking it me.. or a burning sensation but it's HARD TO MOVE!! Has anyone else experienced this pain? Is it the stitches that are holding the port to my abdominal wall? WILL IT EVER GO AWAY???
  5. Yea that's the kind I prefer. (the hook up that is attached at the back).
  6. Does anyone know where I can buy a bike rack for our tahoe.. that is not too expensive? I checked online and they are HIGH!!!
  7. 5 more miles on the bike and about 1 mile walk today! It just feels better when i'm moving. Just sitting at my desk at work is painful. Maybe I havent gotten over the 6 days layed up. But I'm doing my best to get those pounds to melt lol
  8. I'm so excited for you Shawna!!! It was so cool meeting you and now being able to listen as you go through this process. I can now pick up and help you as I've been through the surgery.. thank God I didnt have all the issues with the CPAP run around. I'm glad that preop went smooth! Yes the fleet is NASTY!! I mixed it with white grape peach juice and it was a little better but now I won't drink the rest of that juice because it reminds me of that taste lol. THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!!! I pray that everything goes well and that God provides the doctors and staff with plenty rest tonight! Get you some good sleep in your bed.. on your side.. on your belly bc it might be a day or so before you can lol. IT'S WORTH IT!! I have only lost 16 pounds but I feel so much better about myself, my motivation, exercise etc. I can't wait until you are joining me on this journey!! Update us when you can! We're praying for you!! BTW, what time do you have to be there tomorrow? SENDING BIG HUGS!!!
  9. CONGRADULATIONS SHAWNA!! It's about time you can rest about all of that. Good thing you went ahead with the liquids today. Pre op appt was nothing to me. It took a couple of hours but they only did labs and a ton of questions. Then I went and met with Dr. Miles to pay and ask any last minute questions. I'll be praying for you throught the day tomorrow! Let us know how you're doing once you feel up to it!!
  10. who's doing your surgery? We did discuss the library but not much
  11. SBG is fine.. I'd probably realize y'all were talking to me easier with that haha
  12. Dang at the fight you had to put up to get your band. Congrats on winning it!! We just got back from 2 more miles. You know, I dont remember my doctor telling me a time to wait. I hope it's ok. He did tell me that walking was one of the best ways to do it. He didnt recommend a gym.. he just said walk. We have been looking around at gyms. Neither of the 2 we are considering have a pool. I've heard alot about Water aerobics. We have some friends with a pool but don't know what to do once we get in it lol. What type exercise do you do in it
  13. My surgical coordinator told me to be prepared for this too. I had never really thought about it. But I would assume it's due to the fact that we are living different than we used to. That doesn't make us feel that be are better than THEM.. just better than the old ME. I know for me.. there are tons of things I can't wait to do when I've lost enough weight to do them. So if that makes me different than I used to be... PRAISE GOD!! lol
  14. WOW that is AWESOME!! I'll be there someday!! What's wrong? Do you have strep throat? Edit: I just read backwards... I see that it probably is strep throat. Oh I know how you feel. It is TERRIBLE!!!!! I had my first battle with it a couple of years ago and man do you feel awful with that mess! Take it easy! I had a couple of relaps from it bc when I finally felt better, I started back with life too soon. Hope you feel better SOON!
  15. Ok fellow advengers.... what are you doing as far as exercise? How often, for how long and what exactly is it? Up until today, I've been walking about a mile a day. I am 10 days post op today and finally decided I could start back riding the bike. DH and I rode 3 miles.. which was a pretty big deal for me... as it's the first day. It's just too pretty to sit in this house. As limp as my legs are now, I'm ready to go do something. I can't wait to feel like this all the time!! So what did YOU do today??
  16. ok this probably don't compare to the rest of you all but today was my first day back on the bike since surgery. Day 10 post op and we rode 3 miles. Needless to say I am exhausted but kinda ready to go again. It's just too pretty to stay in this house!! I'm raring to see the scales move more!!!
  17. I haven't heard if anyone has found a place to have it. I did hear about there being one on Decatur but I live in Fayetteville so that's really out of the way. I am willing to drive to Madison though, as I work in Huntsville.
  18. Boy do I look forward to the day I can say this for myself. I only need to loose 3 more pounds but I have been stuck here for days. CONGRADULATIONS! IT MUST FEEL WONDERFUL!!!
  19. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! The fight is over!! I know you are so relieved and can enjoy your weekend now!! Hopefully they haven't changed the schedule because they knew the problems you were having! Let us know when find out Monday!!
  20. Oh Medge I would be FURIOUS!!!! I would call and ask to speak with the office manager, doctor or even if the doctor is governed by the hospital I would call the CEO. That is crazy! ESPECIALLY since you've paid THAT much! As far as I can tell across the board, 6 weeks is the max before they will do it. Putting you out ten weeks is unacceptable. I can understand his issue of wanting to only do fills once a month but he should at least get the 1st fills in and then go from there. Goodluck!
  21. I live in Fayetteville and was banded in Birmingham, AL. Looking forward to a healthier life!!
  22. I agree! I have some old adipex pills and have thought about taking them during this time but I'm like you. I HATE the way they make me feel. It's not really worth it even though they do take away the appetite. Got the 15 staples removed today and the surgeon says it's healing well. I am so excited to get a full nights rest tonight without the pain of getting them hung or not being able to sleep on my side because of them. 5 more weeks and I'll get a fill!
  23. Yes that something that we all go through! I too have BCBS and had to do the 6 month thing. I know they have more than one reason for requiring that but I think one of them is because they know people will get tired of it and stop. If you qualify for the band and feel that the band will help you live a longer, healthier life... don't give up!! Fear is from the devil but is a real feeling! You can do it! Technology is amazing these days. They have all they need to take care of you! I am 8 days post op and did get kind of fearful the week or so before. I had to remind myself that God SPOKE and created this earth! He can surely handle this. There are MILLIONS more deaths or long term disabilites due to car wrecks in a day! Take your time but don't give up until you KNOW that you KNOW you dont want it. Goodluck and keep us posted as you go!
  24. 8 days out for me and today I really experienced what y'all are talking about. I haven't been able to get full all day. I HATE seeing the scale go UP but I hate being hungry all day too. I'm still on full liquids and will be until next Thursday. I have protein shakes that have a whopping 35g of protein. I thought that was suppose to make me feel full longer. I don't think so. I'm ready for at least mushies!!
