  1. I really dont think there would be "dangerous complications" if she didnt follow exactly what her surgeon told her. Otherwise, we all wouldnt have been given such various instructions on how to do it. Its not like anyone is telling her to have a last meal of cheeseburgers, fries, and a milkshake an hour before surgery. I had to lose 5% of my body weight in the months prior to surgery so that my liver shrank and made the surgery easier to get to my stomach. As far as sticking to a diet, you know as well as I do, how hard that is and thats why we need this surgery. Lets give her a break. We all went thru it and a little deviation from instructions wont hurt. Im doing great and celebrated a year last friday and have lost 82 lbs. She will do fine. Shes ready.
  2. I know everyone had different doctor orders on what do do, but I never had to do a liquid diet prior to surgery, other than 3 days before. I was allowed Cream Soups, Jellos, SF ice pops, etc 3 days before, clear soups and broths 2 days before, and the same for day before and no eating or drinking after midnite the day before surgery. After surgery, I couldnt eat solid food for two weeks, only 1 shake per day with SF ice pops, clear soups and broths. That was rough. But you get thru it. So, nothing will happen, but try to follow that liquid diet for 3 days prior like I did. I went to a well-known center in WHite Plains New York and they have been doing this surgery for over 10 years. I think they know what they are talking about. Good luck!
  3. Doctor should have taken out 1/2 cc
  4. No offense, but what hell kind of place did u go to? I have never heard of any place treating a patient like this. Never was anyone I know of told that it could take up to a year for restriction or go to Weight watchers. Find a different place. Sounds to me like theya re takaing ur money for very small fills to keep you going back for more. You should stay in the office for a fill until you get enough od that fill. Try to gulp a cup of Water afterwards and see if u can keep it down. If ur gulping and water doesnt come back up, YOU AINT FILLED ENOUGH!!!!! HAVE THEM PUT MORE IN. IN THE MEANTIME, FIND ANOTHER PLACE !!!!
  5. Hello. First of all, I was pissed off also. I'll tell you why. What you're going thru is call "Bandster HEll". Thats the feeling you have right about now after your surgery where ur hunger is back full strength. You have to use your willpower, but if u cant, so what!. I called my doctors when I felt my unbearable hunger coming back. It was right after surgery and all I was alloed to drink was ONE shake PER DAY!!!!! OMG!! I could also have broths, SF ice pops, soups, etc. What pissed me off is when they told me it was "head hunger". I told them "Bullshit", this is real hunger and anyone who drinks one shake per day, wheher you're fat or skinny will be hungry". :yikes: Head Hunger, my ass! You're due for your first fill soon. Now, dont think the first fill will do the trick. Sometimes, it doesnt. Sometimes it does. It took 3 fills before I felt restriction. But, here I am, almost a year later and dow 82 pounds. Believe me, the time flies and so will the pounds. What you are feeling is normal. Try to ride it out. Its something we all have to do. Good luck!
  6. Listen after you get your fill, drink a glass of Water, kinda of gulp it. If you cant keep it down or it feels like its still in your throat, then ur good. Stay there until you fininsh the water ansee how your fel. if you have no probls gulping water and keeping it down, then u are ot filled enuff!!!
  7. Youre going thru bandster hell which is the weeks after surgery when the swelling around your stomach goes down and hunger comes back. You havent been filled yet during surgery or a little put in . Once you get a fill, you will not be so hungry and sometimes the fill takes 2 or 3 times before you feel the effects. Its normal. Fornow, its ALL willpower. Something we all lack. Good luck!
  8. What about asking your docs to up your BMI? Or, do you have any co-morbidity issues, like High Blood Pressure or Diabetes, shortness of breath, Heart Murmur? I as denied by Aetna at first thinking that they just denied me because they didnt want to cover it. But, it turns out I was denied because the initial doctor I picked was out of my network. I didnt know that was the reason. I jsut assumed I was denied because they didnt want to cover the surgery. I called back months later to find this out. I chose another doctor in my plan and had the surgery on October 16th, 2008. Have your insurance person at the docs office keep pushing until you are approved. My office sdoes that and gets alot of approvals that way. Good luck. PS- Ive lost 82 pound so far!
  9. Its very worth it. Im coming up on my year anniversary on October 16th and have lost 82 lbs. I have about 40 pounds to go. I was scared, with no reason to be. Surgery went great, I healed fast and I can eat anything. Some foods you will tolerate better than others. Do it! You will be so glad u did!. Good luck!!!
  10. Im sorry to had to hear that crap from those workers. You definitely should have said something to them to let them know you understood what they said. I would have also gone to the neighbors to let them know what their laborers are doing. But, dont let it get you down, let it make youi more determined to take care of business. Good luck to you.
  11. WHAT A GREAT POST!!! EVERYONE'S FEAR IS BEING UNFILLED AND GAINING THE ALL THE WEIGHT BACK. IM HOPING THAT ONCE IM DOWN TO MY GOAL THAT I CAN HAVE AN UN-FILL AND STILL CONTROL HOW I EAT, WHILE EATING THE GOODS FOODS I'VE BEEN MISSING. THANKS !!:frown:
  12. I lost 80 pounds since October and eat what I want. I just eat much much less. I definitely wouldnt call the LApband a "crap gamble" and dont think of it that way, otherwise you are destined for failure. I still want to eat alot and I dont feel Physically full, just my band is full, thats why I cant eat alot. Last night my friend took me out to dinner and I order apps, entree, and dessert. We took a long time between eating and I couldnt eat it all, but I was happy and enjoyed what I was able to eat. So, stop worrying, go do it, and good luck!
  13. Wow- sorry u havent been successful, but you are entitled to your opinion. Everything doesnt work for anyone. But, have you been going for all your fills, have you had restriction? If not, go back until you. do. But, I dont agree with the fact that you have to starve in order to be thin. Because, to be honest with you. I pretty much eat what I want, just cant eat as much as I used to and I've lost 80 pounds since October 08. I can just imagine if I ate EXACTLY how Im supposed to, I would be thin by now. It doesnt sound right with what you're going through. Maybe you should change docs. But, dont give up. Give it another try. Good luck:thumbup:
  14. Do yourself a favor and take your pain meds whether you need them or not. They will help you sleep and also will help you if pain from thw incisions kicks in. This is what I was told. Youre gonna be sore and wont be able to sleep. Trust me. You're also gonna have pain from gas that doesnt feel like gas. Its gonna feel like back pain, shoulder pain, etc. Get up and walk as much as you can, that helps. Good luck.
  15. Theres nothing wrong with you. You're human. WE have all been there a million times. You just let it get away from you. So what !!! GWT IT BACK, GIRL!!! You've learned a leson. Dont let it get so far next time. Nip it in the bud at a 5 pound gain next time and then get another fill. You know as well as I that this thing "aint no miracle cure". We have to deal with this bullshit forever. I go to therapy so I can learn to change my eating behaviors that I've used for all of my life. Getting the band didnt make all that go away. I know you want to kick yourself in the ass, but whats done is done. Start over again. You can do it. You did it before. Like Joy Behar says, "So what, Big Deal"! We will forever be slipping up and starting over. Thats just who we are. So, go get ur fill, tighten up and be on ur way down the scale again. By next Spring, you will be down there again. Look how fast the months have gone by already. It will be here before you know it!!! Good Luck!!!!!

  18. Its not about rubbing people the wrong way. Its about someone who THINKS they are a doctor and attempts to dispute everything someone else KNOWS to be fact. He skulks around the message boards TRYING to appear educated, when he does nothing more than give HIS experience as to what happened to him and discourage others from Lapband surgery because of his bad experience with it. A lot of the people here feel very vulnerable and sensitive about how they are feeling, unsure which route to go, and are loooking for someone to guide them. He tries to make people feel inferior, thats what makes him feel superior. I feel sorry for him and anyone who thinks he does this board a service, they are obviously just like him. We are here to support others, not "demean or dehumanize", but to encourage and support. But thats just me. Im a different person.
  19. Wow- I'm sad for you. I will pray for your lost soul. You are an uninformed negative entity here on this site. I feel bad that your lack of success spills over into bitterness towards everyone else. Be Well. I will no longer respond to your dribble.
  20. Tell me something, Headhunter. Do you skulk around the forums to refute everything everyone says because you think you are some kind of authority on these procedures. What I said is fact, given directly to me by bypass patients, nutritionists, and doctors by the Westchester Medical Group. I'm assuming you think you know more than the doctors. You are not a doctor. You can only give your OPINION, not debate what is medical fact. DUMPING SYNDROME IS WHAT THIS SIDE EFFECT OF BYPASS SURGERY IS AND IT IS A FACT. SUGAR IS NO LONGER YOUR FRIEND ONCE YOU GET BYPASS. DO YOUR RESEARCH. AND AS FOR FEELING NORMAL, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING A BYPASS PATIENT. WHY ARE YOU ATTEMPTING TO TWIST MY WORDS.? WHAT I THINK IS THAT YOU'RE NOT NORMAL.:thumbup:
  21. Dont listen to that crap. Everyones weight loss success varies. Ive lost 70 pouns so far since October and I havent even been strict. I eat what I want in smaller portions, have Snacks, drink wine, etc. I try to use my treadmill for about 30 mins a day, not everyday. It depends on the person. Good luck.. I chose lapband because I didnt want such invasive surgery like bypass. And,also, I have no co-morbidity issues like high blood pressure or diabetes. I was just fat. You can never have sugar again with bypass. You will experience really bad pain, gas, bloating and diarrhea with the smallest amount. I needed to feel like a "normal" person. But, you have to choose whats right for you.
  22. You can drink. I'm not a big drinker, but I drink when I go out, drink with dinner once in a while. No problems. I have lost 70 pounds so far, and have no problems. Why did they tell you not to drink anyway? I was also told by a PA that I probably wont be able to ever has a cheeseburger again also. He was wrong. Its only a band, not a death sentence. I can see the problem with beer, since its like its carbonated, but wine and mixed drinks, I dont think so. But, everyone is different. I eat what I want, drink what I want and have no problems. To each his own. Good luck!
  23. Exactly. I know the difference between real hunger and just wanting to eat. That annoys the shit outta me when the nutritionist or the doctor tells me that. I know I'm an overeater and eat when I'm not hungery, but let me tell you, I KNOW WHEN I'M HUNGRY AND EATING 1/2 CUP OF food AT MEALS DOESNT FILL ME UP. Dont get me wrong, Im glad I got his done and I have lost 70 lbs so far, but thats because I PHYSICALLY GET ANYMORE FOOD IN .
  24. IT IS HUNGER- DONT LET ANYONE TELL YOU DIFFERENT.:tongue_smilie:
  25. I also was under the impression that I would be full and not want to eat any more. But, thats not the way it is. I LITERALLY CANT eat alot at one time anymore. Otherwise, I will throw up. I'm still hungry. Anyone would be after eating a half cup of food. But, Im gratefull this is working like that though. I've lost about 70 lbs so far since I started the whole process last June. I recently stopped PB'ing because its not good to do and I am trying to eat better. I wish I had known all this prior, but I still would have had it done anyway. I look and feel great. But that stuck feeling is only releived by bringing up the food again, because it wont go down and Water wont help.
