  1. Okay. Thank you for the advice, support, and information. This is so rough. I look forward to the other side.
  2. Nobody else takes calcium citrate supplements and has suggestions? I need to find something that works.
  3. Congratulations! You went through a lot and you look so healthy, strong, and successful now. Your story helps me. I'm on Day 17 post-op from my duodenal switch bariatric surgery. It's so very hard. I'm miserable, starving, nauseated, and cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. Your story helps me hold onto hope that I can make it through. I hope I can. Thank you for bravely sharing your story. I wish you the best!
  4. I'm on Day 17 post-op from my duodenal switch bariatric surgery. I understand how you are feeling. I'm scared, starving, questioning my choice for surgery, etc..., too. I am taking it minute by minute, resting as much as possible, trying to get in as many fluids as possible, and doing the best I can with the meds, vitamins, supplements, and icky protein shakes. Surviving. That is all I can do each day right now...with hope that I will get through it. For me, I've discovered that warm broth is not gross and it counts towards fluids and helps a bit with satiation. My Westsoy Unsweetened Plain Soy Milk by itself is also helping me get a little protein. It does not taste bad to me. Everything else tastes gross, unfortunately, but there is no way around the protein shakes. For me, I'm mixing my protein powder with my milk, letting it sit in the fridge for several hours to lose some of its grittiness, and then taking about an hour to drink 8 oz. It takes me from 5am to 11am to get most everything in for a 24-hour day. I haven't hit my goals yet, but like I said, I'm doing my best to survive. My doctor is okay with this. That gives me some peace of mind because I don't have to worry about being perfect with these goals. The people who have been through it who have shared their experiences and pics in here help me feel better...that I will survive and get healthier and stronger eventually. I typed into the search bar before and after to read many stories. Maybe that will help you too. I wish you the best!!!!!
  5. I forgot to add that I cannot have anything with palm oil in it.
  6. I'm on Day 15 post-op. I cannot find a calcium citrate supplement that I can tolerate. Either they are nasty powders that make me nauseated and too full or they're giant pills. My surgeon said that I must take 1500 mg of calcium citrate with vitamin D three times a day. Does anyone have one that is tolerable and will work long-term? 🤢☹️😭😫
  7. I empathize with you very much. I'm on Day 13 post-op. I had my 2-week post-op appointment today. The moment the surgeon walked I to the room, I started sobbing. I admitted to how 8 was really feeling...terrified that I made an irreversible life-threatening life-shortening mistake, starving, nauseated, and so miserable. He calmly and compassionately used his expertise and experience to explain the science and medicine about bariatric surgery again. He reminded me that I made a life-affirming, life-lengthening, positive, brave decision that is scientifically proven to help me get stronger, healthier, and that will improve the quality of my life and my overall well-being. I'm still feeling weak, exhausted, famished, and nauseated. I'm still pretty freaked out about it all. BUT the surgeon's words, the data, the time-proven past results he's seen....really helped me feel better, calmer, more hopeful, and more at peace with my decision. I know that my short message is not even kind of close to being awesome like my conversation with my surgeon today, so itay not help you or anyone else, but I hope it does! You are not alone. I'm here with you. Others have done this before us and made it through. We can do hard, really hard, things when we have to. Be open and honest with your doctor. Follow your doctor's instructions even though it's so very hard. We can do this.
  8. I agree, Rocky 11. ☹️😭☹️ I'm so sad and hungry and nauseated. This is really hard. I empathize with you! Please keep in touch. For me these last 3 days, I'm having trouble reaching my 150 grams of protein powder in water. They're gross and filling. I got to 108 grams on Day 8. I got to 98 grams yesterday. I'm at 85 grams now and it's 9pm. Between my taste buds being dead or ruined or something and my nausea and the protein powder filling me up and causing more diarrhea, my body is so confused and frustrated...it's hungry but doesn't want the shakes. Ugh! I was very excited for this surgery. I hope so much every day really gets better.
  9. Can you visit a weight loss center to try to get on the medicine?
  10. Thank you so much for the information about this group, for the information about recovery, and for the encouragement. I appreciate all of it. I definitely need a group that is kind, compassionate, and helpful I don't use social media sites, but my doctor said an online group like this would help me. I'll keep trudging along. Thank you so much.
  11. Is this not the kind of online group that communicates with each other daily, so people can be supported, motivated, and helped? I noticed that the few posts that are new have lots of views, but few or no replies. If so, I'll need to find another online group because I need the support, motivation, and help. ☹️
  12. I'm pretty freaked out. I've been reading others' posts, articles about bariatric surgeries, my information from my doctor and my dietician for many months, but I was not prepared for how I'm feeling and doing. I've never been addicted to food. My big issues were simply not taking care of myself, eating whatever and whenever I wanted to, not exercising, eating big portions, and eating late at night. With that said, I certainly realized this first week after my duodenal switch bariatric surgery that I love food. I've been so very hungry, nauseated, fatigued, and in pain these last 8 days. My surgeon's strict instructions are to be on a clear liquids diet for the first week. For weeks 2 through 4, I am to be on a clear liquids diet that includes 5 mini protein shakes made out of 30 grams of protein powder and water. Today is Day 8. I guess I'm in a place right now where I'm wondering if I made a huge mistake getting this life-changing, digestive system-changing surgery that I cannot reverse. I'm freaked out. I have green diarrhea about 10 times a day. The surgeon said it's normal. The bile is moving too quickly through my system right now as it heals and adjusts. The pain is improving each day. I'm still very nauseated. I'm finding it hard today to get to that 150 grams of protein. For those of you who've been through this, will it, indeed get better? Will I ever enjoy real food again? Did I make a huge mistake and ruin my body? I have no energy at all.
  13. Hi, I've done lots and lots of research and talked to every doctor I have. I've decided that as long as we each choose a reputable, experienced bariatric surgeon, we will be in good hands. They've trained for these surgeries. They chose this profession to help us. They know what they are doing. I think it will be okay. My duodenal switch bariatric surgery is on August 6, 2026. I'm very excited. I started my pre-op clear liquids diet early, too. I, too, had a complete hysterectomy several years ago.I don't know what ESG is. I read a quote recently that is helpful for me because I have anxiety. It said something like this...if you're going to overthink it, at least think about the best outcomes that can happens and the best feelings you can have. I love that. You have to do what you think and feel is best for you. I wish you the best.
  14. I hope you're feeling good. Congratulations on your weight loss so far. I am getting my hiatal hernia repaired when I have my duodenal switch bariatric surgery on August 6, 2026.
  15. I used Zepbound from February 2026 to just this past Monday. I love Zepbound. It's a life changer, but my insurance would not pay for it in spite of my many health problems. If it was covered, I'd stay on it for life. Since it's not, I am having the duodenal switch bariatric surgery on August 6, 2026. My insurance company will pay for that. Go figure. I'm excited for my surgery. I hope you can make the decision that's best for you both short-term and long-term. Take care.
  16. I wish you the very best! My surgery is on August 6, 2026. I'm very excited!
  17. Thank you both for responding to my post. I appreciate your wisdom, advice, and support. Take care.
  18. I just joined and I think I made my two tickets and added them to my signatures, but I do not see my tickets or anyone else's anywhere. Does this site make you think you can make tickets and add them, but actually they are not active anymore? If that's so, please remove them entirely. What a waste of time.
  19. Hi, I haven't had my surgery yet, but 8 encourage you to go ahead get your primary doctor's approval for the bariatric surgery. My surgeon gave me a form to give my primary doctor. I would also directly talk with your insurance company. One more thing...find out if your insurance company offers a support program that matches you up to one support person there to be your advocate. I learned about this last winter and I now have a support person who works for my insurance company and who now listens to me, advocates for me, and even streamlines things when red tape is causing trouble. It's been a blessing, for sure. It's free. I just had to know about it and ask for it. I hope this helps.
  20. Hi, My surgeon insists that the sleeve is the best option for me. Do you mind sharing why you needed the revision? Thank you. I am so happy for you that all is well! I hope I will be healthy and strong someday soon. Happy birthday 🎉.
  21. I only joined this group on 7.4.26, but it wasn't until today that I found a post that said to use the desktop version instead of the mobile version. Yes, when using my phone, hence, the mobile version, I don't see tickets, a way to add my surgery information, and many more cool things. Phone users, click on the snowman in the top right corner of your phone while in your account. Choose desktop site. You might need to refresh once you do that. It's a totally better experience. 🙂 Yeah. Maybe, they will eventually make the mobile version just as good soon. 🤔
  22. Solo Pea Protein Powder Naked PB Orgain Plant-based Vegan Protein Powder With Superfoods Westsoy Unsweetened Plain Soy Milk Broccoli Cauliflower Peas Carrots Chard Bok choy Garlic Onions Avocados Mixed greens Tomatoes Bell peppers Sweet peppers Raspberries Strawberries Blueberries Blackberries Cherries Peaches Pears Apples Plums Nectarines Bananas Pomegranates Squash Canned pumpkin Turnips Parsnips Rutabagas Hummus Various spices Almonds Walnuts Pecans Peanuts Hazelnuts Peanut butter Sunflower seeds Chia seeds Hemp seeds Flax seed powder Pumpkin seeds Green beans Pinto beans Northern beans Black beans Chick peas Quinoa Wild rice Tempeh Tofu Vegan crumbles Ezekiel Bread Nutritional yeast Olive oil Aloha Peanut Butter Cup Protein Bar WATER The nuts, seeds, any canned beans and vegetables are salt-free. The fruits and veggies are fresh and frozen. The tofu is always organic. I also buy organic non-gmo foods as often as possible. I currently drink about 100 ounces of water each day. Obviously, those are the foods and drinks I have stored in my kitchen I don't eat them all every week. I try to make sure that I have a variety of foods each week. I eat the rainbow as best as I can. On this weight loss journey, I have had to work very hard to get up to 100 g of protein and 50 g of fiber each day while not consuming too many carbs, calories, fats, or sugars. That's a huge struggle for a vegan...at least for me. The three powders and the milk that I mentioned above go into my daily smoothie. That's what helps me get to my protein goal each day. 🙂 My dietician and bariatric surgeon haven't been very helpful with what changes I will have to make post-op even though both of them support my vegan lifestyle and say I'll do great. Are any of you vegan? Can you share your post-op wisdom with me? Will I need to eliminate foods above? Will I need to add to my list? The one thing that I won't do is stop being a vegan, so I must figure it all out. Thank you for any advice you have. I hope people read posts in here daily and respond, so we all learn from each other and feel supported and empowered. Thank you. 🙂
