February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
When I went in for my 1 week visit to the dietician she told me that I was right on track... 14 pound loss since starting the pre-op diet. She told me to expect about a one-month stall (or very little weight loss) once I started to add food in. She said that clothing will start to fit looser, but the scale may come to a halt. Then it will pick up again. I'm trying to weigh only once a week and not bank on the scale as my only means of seeing results. It's hard!

February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
Oh, I didn't have staples. I had stitches on the inside that dissolved and glue on the outside. I'm healing very well. I did wear a band around my belly on and off for the first 2 weeks. That helped a lot!! I highly recommend it. I don't need it anymore cuz things are mostly healed. https://a.co/d/5z0wYgL

February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
Bummer! I was told to add a small amount of water when reheating fish or meat. I don't eat meat, but I will add a few drops of water or some sauce of some kind when reheating fish.

February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
I can identify with the feelings you are having when trying to get food down... also being so tired! Some of my favorite pureed foods have been an egg scrambled with Ricotta cheese, cream of wheat made with veggie broth, and vanilla yogurt (zero) with some peanut butter powder mixed in it. I'm allowed to have hummus and have liked that occasionally. I hate that blocked feeling... I'm actually scared of it at this point. I'm trying to find a way to avoid it but haven't been successful yet. I can only eat a 1/4 cup of food at a time max. Have you tried using baby spoons? I've found that it helps me take small bites and eat slower.

Unfortunately, I have LOTS of pills. I'm hoping to get off some of them in time!

February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
Is anyone struggling with taking pills? Tomorrow is two weeks out from surgery for me, and I dread taking my pills morning and night... especially in the morning. This morning I woke up feeling full and the thought of my pills was making me gag. It doesn't matter what size they are; I don't like swallowing them. Once I take them, I have to sit and let them go down. I took them over an hour ago, and I still feel full and a bit gaggy. I have no clue what the deal is with this. I never liked taking pills, but this is crazy. I'm trying to drink a Protein drink to get my mind off this, but I'm struggling cuz I feel so full.

My sense of smell was very heightened for at least the first week after surgery. I'm about a week and a half out and it seems to be calming down. Thank goodness... we have 5 dogs and 3 cats in the house! My doctor gave me meds for nausea, I hope yours will give you something!

What does "full" feel like to you?
Great information, thank you!

What does "full" feel like to you?
I'm a week out from surgery and have started on pureed food. I'm trying to figure out when I'm getting full without getting too full. Today I think I overdid it and it wasn't comfy at all! I get discomfort right between my breasts... the first few days after surgery, I was really sore there, and liquids hurt going down. They found a hiatal hernia and fixed that during surgery, and I figured that repair was causing the pain. But it's kind of in the same place where I get uncomfortable when I think I'm full. With that said... I'm curious about what full feels like to others. Thanks!!

February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
I can tell you what I was told. My dietitian came to visit and she said to try and get into protein shakes a day over the next seven days. She said if I can only get one that’s OK but two is definitely preferred. And then it’s very important to get minimum of 48 ounces of water a day. That’s where I’m struggling with the water. I am not allowed to have anything tea or citrus flavored. Before the way I got my water in was with a mixture of decaf tea crystal light and lemonade crystal light. I have some other flavors of crystal light and I’m trying to like them, along with just plain water. In the hospital they had me on the second day doing, 1 ounce of water every 15 minutes before graduating me to a shake and Jell-O. But basically for this week the crucial things were a minimum of 48 ounces of water and two shakes a day. Jell-O, putting, Popsicles, watered down cream of wheat, and yogurt are all OK I have also according to my doctor.

February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
Your first week postop when you’re on the liquid diet, what does it feel like when you’ve had enough? I didn’t picture it feeling like this, but usually my first sip is OK, and then my second one hurts. Like right between my breasts, it hurts going down and then it’s like it tries to come back up and it hurts. Is that what feeling full is going to feel like now?

February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
Good morning! Glad to hear you both are doing well. I had my surgery on Thursday and came home yesterday. They found a hiatal hernia during surgery and went ahead and repaired that so I got two for one. I am doing OK as long as I keep pain meds in me. I’m not sure if the hernia causes more pain or what but, swallowing really does hurt like right in between my breasts. It took me a good half hour to get my morning pills down one at a time. I slept in the recliner last night and got more sleep than I did the whole time in the hospital! I agree about not feeling hungry. That’s kind of weird considering we haven’t had food in a long time. It’s great to have you all on the same journey with me!

Liver Shrinkage Diet struggles
I'm so sorry you are having to do this for so long. My surgery is tomorrow. My doctor only required 10 days, and that was bad enough. I was told, however, that the first 3 days are the worst, and I found that to be true. Your post date would have been your 3rd day. Praying that it gets easier for you! The past few days, while hungry, I just didn't care anymore about the hunger. What has gotten me is the fatigue. Best wishes to you!!

February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
How fun surgery, buddy! I'm in the Western part of North Carolina... not the mountains, but the foothills. My surgery is local here. Oh my gosh... yes, jitters. Excited and nervous, a fun combination! Keeping as busy as I can. The person who did my psych evaluation for surgery had the surgery years ago. She's super nice, and we are meeting for an online chat today. I'm really looking forward to that!

February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
If you don't already have it, the Baritastic app is pretty handy. So far, I'm only tracking food (well, liquids) and my weight, but there's more fun stuff, too. The bariatric nurse at the hospital recommended it during my pre-op appointment.

February 2024 Surgery Buddies?
I just ate the best thing. I felt like I was cheating, but I wasn't! If you are allowed to have Cream of Wheat, I would highly recommend making it with broth instead of water. I don't like the stuff, but this was amazing! I don't eat meat, so I used vegetable broth. It was the best thing I've had in 4 days

Congrats! I'm glad to hear you aren't in too much pain. I keep hearing about the gas pain and am not looking forward to that. I'm excited about the fact that you are able to come here and post something already!

It sounds like you are doing pretty well! I'm on day 3 and not a happy camper today. I feel weak and a bit faint. For a snack, I had some allowed yogurt and PBfit in it. Best yogurt I've had in my life! lol. I'm so so lucky I only have to do this for 10 days.
