I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
Hernia! Good idea! I think my cover story will have to be that I am out of town for a few days. If I say I am having surgery I will end up on the Prayer Chain at church and the minister will come visit. Very sweet but I don't want to go there. I have enough problems without lying to a minister. Maybe we will make an imaginary trip to Jamaica. Last time we were there my cell phone didn't work there but they did have email in the hotel rooms. Doh! Wait that cover story won't work. We would never go away for:wink2: Thanksgiving. This is going to require some fancy footwork....I am starting to feel like I have a hernia....http://www.lapbandtalk.com/images/smilies/modern/wink.gif

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
Looks like a lot of us will be thankful for no turkey on the 27th. I am trying to set things up in my business so they will leave me alone post surg for a week or so. It will be hard without telling them. I think will tell them they can email me but not to call. Where do they have internet but no phones?

Playing golf ??-- with the Lap Band
I am being banded November 25th. My plan after healing is to play a lot of golf in the spring. The way I play there is a lot of zig zagging back and forth from the rough on one side to the rough on the other side so 18 holes = about 5 miles of walking.

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
My surgery date is Nov 25th two days before Thanksgiving. I have decided not to tell anybody except my wife and kids. They are keeping me in the hospital until the 26th. My wife's family and my family both live nearby. Typically we go to my mom's house for a full Thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat (obscure Alice's Restaurant reference) and then have another one at her mom's later that same day (see how I got so big?). If I show up and don't eat that will be bad but if I don't show up that will also be bad. I guess I will just have to be "under the weather". The problem is my mom can always tell when I am lying.

I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
Hello November bander types! Those of you who have already had surgery I hope you recovery quickly. I made many jokes that "with my luck I will prob get banded the day before Thanksgiving" ...I got my date ..Nov 25th ..two days before Thanksgiving. I am gonna save so much money on turkey! I am not really freaked out about the surgery. I have had many surgerys for sports related things, knees, shoulder, ears from scuba diving. Waking up from the anethesia is the worst part and from that moment on you feel better. I have been thinking a lot about the necessary lifestyle changes but I am not getting cold feet. I made up my mind. My wife says I have never changed my mind about anything ever lol. Good luck to you all. See you at band camp

Still waiting....... (tapping foot)
After months of doing all the various appointments and completing them all I finally had it all done. The Dr's assistant said she would schedule my surg right away. That was over 2 weeks ago. I called last week and left a message. No body even called me back. I need to plan things with my business so I can take time to recover. My wife is a nurse she wants to take time off to take care of me. I guess I will call the doctor today.

What the heck have i done
Only 3 of 15 (I think..I lost count) pre-op appointments left to do! I am glad they are being careful but sometimes I think they do this just to make sure you are committed. Next week I should get a surg date in Nov sometime. After all these appointments are done I am going to feel like I have sooo much free time! I have actually lost a few pounds in all of this. Mostly because I am too busy going to appointments to eat.:grouphug:

What the heck have i done
Old goat, They haven't said I have to lose any weight pre-surgery but I am sure it wouldn't hurt. I find myself saying "I better eat all this pizza cause I won't be able to later" I better watch it or I will need to get TWO bands. Maybe if they just put a band around my so my mouth wouldn't open wide.....:Dancing_biggrin:

You can really tell you are out of shape when....
I forgot to mention...there is a road all the way to the top of Pike's Peak. We drove up there in a rented Nissan Altima lol. I got out of breath walking from the car to the gift shop!!

You can really tell you are out of shape when....
....you leave you house on Long Island (elevation about 5' above sea level) and go to the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado (elevation 14,000' plus). I was really huffing and puffing up there. Good think I am supposed to get banded next month. There has to be a lot less of me before I take up mountain climbing.http://www.lapbandtalk.com/images/smilies/modern/blink.gif

What the heck have i done
I have only three appointments left before being scheduled all next week. Two with cardiologist and one with pulmanologist. Today they said it would be late November. With my luck it will be Thanksgiving Day. I don't care I just want to get started. So Old Goat you may have company. I prefer thinking of myself as a "middle aged goat"

So... what do you fellas do?
I am an evil real estate developer. I spend most of my time at jobsites talking into a cell phone and pointing at things.

"There will be no problem getting you approved for surgery" yikes!
I guess I really didn't think I was in all that bad shape. I kinda thought of myself as a big muscular guy. When the docs suggested I look in to banding I assumed it was because of my other health problem with my heart. So when it was time to go to be evaluated I ate a ton of salty popcorn the night before and maybe slouched a little on the scale so I was only 6'3 instead of 6'5. The results? Holy cow! I am fat! 39.8 BMI and 107 lbs of my 315 total is fat!! I am carrying around a full size jockey everywhere I go! No wonder I am tired! Why did I think they were going to say "Why are you here? You don't need a lap band!" It's funny how we fool ourselves. The heart problem and sleep apnea should make approval for surgery likely I am told. Now suddenly I have to decide if I really want to do this! I am reading about people with bad experiences as well as success stories. One big factor is the possibility of getting rid of that dam CPAP machine (not exactly the sexiest thing anybody ever wore to bed). Stay tuned for more of my brain droppings as I figure this out.http://www.lapbandtalk.com/images/smilies/modern/blink.gif

anyone from LONG ISLAND
I am in Riverhead. If I decide to go through with this I will probably use Dr. P. Meta in Riverhead/Patchogue. It seems like follow up is very important to success so I want someone close.

Working toward banding
Hi everyone, I am working on getting approved for banding. I am 90% sure I want to do this. I am 6'5 312 lbs but have a CPAP machine for sleep apnea, a difibrillator for cardio myopathy, asthma, and no gall bladder. In addition to flat feet, I have bad knees, shoulders, and even three unhealed cracked ribs left over from football days. The docs tell me I should qualify for insurance because of "co-morbidities". I have been on every weight loss program there is and have worked out in the gym at least 200 days a year for the last 20 years. Even at 6'5 312 lbs I was doing 45 min of cardio a day. I was in the gym working out doing 150# seated military presses the day they told me I had cardio myopathy. I need to rid myself of fat and muscle and get back to the 215 lbs I was in college to get pressure off my heart. As I go through the approval process and hopefully get a surgery date. I will keep you informed and will read with interest all your great posts.
