  1. I'm wondering what ideas everyone has for pre and post surgery liquid diet meals. I'm finding 'bone broth' is quite expensive for a mere 2 cups worth in each package. Yikes! Any ideas? What else do you use for your liquid diet - what has worked for you, and has a nice taste too? As for movement, I just love this guy, Adam. His youtube videos are free and the movement is gentle with guidance, 10 to 15 minutes. Check it out... *Didn't realize the picture would be so big. lol.

    Movement and liquid diet ideas

I finally tried the bone broth, Pacific Foods organic and unsalted. Ick!! I ended up adding garlic powder, pepper, and Turmeric. The soup tasted better when I dunked my grilled cheese sandwich in it. lolol. This 'liquid diet' is going to be rough.

    Movement and liquid diet ideas

Hi Shanna. Great idea to add some protein powder to bone broth. I have been using Isopure vanilla protein powder since beginning of this year. I decided to get Pacific Foods Organic Bone Broth Chicken unsalted. $6, from WalMart. It has less sodium than K&F, a little less protein by a couple grams than K&F, has less sugar then K&F too. And waaaay cheaper. I'm going to give it a try.

Questions for pre surgery liquid diet

I went to Safeway and there was no Kettle & Fire at all. Not sure how I saw that on Safeway online but when I went there yesterday, right around the corner from me, they had none listed on their shelves. I'll have to look into that more. So, since I was at Safeway, I did buy Pacific Foods Organic Bone Broth Chicken. But it does not have nearly the amount of protein that Kettle & Fire has in their Chicken Bone Broth. So frustrating. It only has 9g of Protein where K/F has double the amount of protein I believe.

Questions for pre surgery liquid diet

lol..Apparently, I didn't look good enough. I found Kettle & Fire Chicken bone broth at Safeway for $6.79. lol.. that's what I get for not price comparing 'everywhere'.
  7. I have only had 1 other surgery in my life and that was getting my tonsils' out as an adult, and was in tears before even getting into the gown. I am so nervous about the upcoming surgery - not sure why. But curious about some things? 1) I will start my 'liquid diet' on 11/16. My job takes me into peoples homes, and I go house, after house, after house. I'm worried about having an 'accident' due to the liquid diet. I know it's not even November yet, but has anyone been on a liquid diet and did you experience any accidents? Thanks. 2) I'm working on getting prepared in advance. All the drinks, vitamins, etc. are so expensive via the Kaiser, online places like this one, and such. Has anyone found protein shakes and vitamins with the recommended requirements via bariatric surgery/doctor through Walmart, Target, or Amazon?? My friend gave me 1 Fairlife Protein drink, 30g protein. It was good. I'm hoping this counts. Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks. Thanks much in advance for any/all replies. Shawna PS: I hope I'm doing this correctly. I don't even know where this will post at? Still new at this. FYI: I look at this site at least 1/week or more.

    Questions for pre surgery

Nickelchip and Chunkcat, Thanks much for the reply's and info about bone broth. NC, I went to the link site and checked that out. When I saw the pic of the chicken feet and beef bones, all I could think of is why didn't they cut the toes nails off the chicken feet. lolol.... I don't have a pressure cooker and honestly, I would just rather buy and have the convenience of popping open a carton/box/can and heating it up. thanks for the reference of Kettle and Fire. Gotta say, I'm surprised at the amount of sodium in each package. And guess package is the carton you see in the pic of the lady pouring what looks to be a small carton, into her coffee cup. The $8.50 for '1' carton is pretty pricey too, looks like a couple cups worth. But... 'convenience'.

    Questions for pre surgery

Thanks CatWoman. Gotta say, though i'm Jewish I did not see my Bubby much and so no good ol' fashioned bone broth. Honestly, I have never heard of bone broth. I don't cook with chicken and bones - i'm too damn tired. Yes, I'm one of those quickie people who use can goods and boxes. Too time consuming and messy to take all the meat off the chicken. lol. i know, who is this woman? lol. Especially since my daughter moved out and just me - a lil yogurt with nuts, a healthy blender-made shake, a pizza on occasion - that is dinner. I do make some crock-pot meals on occasion. I'm hoping for better sleep and more energy after surgery and maybe i'll get out more and want to actually cook some 'meals'. ...so you say I can buy 'bone broth' at the store? lol. Yep, here we go with another can or box. lol.
  11. I was told to start it asap and continue through the surgery. Dr. Balla said it had to do with better sleep which in tern means better oxygenated blood which helps the body and organs heal 'better'. Also same principle applies if you are smoking - he wants people to stop smoking before the surgery to have better oxygenated blood.

    Questions for pre surgery

I sure do appreciate everyone's feedback. Thanks soooo much!! I'm still new to this site and not even sure where this has posted and, have forgotten how I found all this feedback. lol. Again, thank you all for your support and posts. I did find some protein shakes (they should call them drinks, they are not 'shakes'. lol, that's just my thought process.). * 4-pack of Premier Protein chocolate: 30g protein, 160 calories, 1g sugar, 24 vitamins/minerals, 3g fiber. and has milk protein concentrate. * 4-pack of Muscle Milk Pro Chocolate: 32g protein, 170 calories, 1g sugar, 16 vitamins/minerals, 5g fiber. and has milk protein isolate. I read, in Ch. 7 of the spiral book Kaiser sent for the mandatory 10-course, and read that 'isolate' is better. Also bought some sugar-free popsicles. Q: What is bone broth? Is that just broth with nothing else in it? 'BONE' broth - I don't want to kill any humors and animals. lol. Well, maybe a couple humans in mind. lol. JUST JOKING, REALLY. Q: 4oz sugar free gelatin +8oz water...does that mean I can make Jello?
  13. I have a surgery date of 11/30/23 and just started wearing the C-PAP as of last week. It is NOT going well at all. I had a score of 4 out of 24 and not sure why they are making do this. I'm lucky to 2 to 4 hours with the thing. I don't like it but attempting every night as they have instructed. I'm hoping after the surgery and I lose some weight that it won't be needed anymore. Just jump through their hoops and i'm sure your surgery will be on track. Gotta say, I have had to wait almost 1 1/2 yrs for this! Oh well, fingers crossed.

    November Surgery Buddies 2023

I hope I'm replying correctly. Such a newby!! I am with you - just got the call today. The minute I heard her say 'schedule' I was happy and only seconds later i had butterflies/jitters in my stomach. I have not been able to eat at all today. I'm freaked out and .... surgery is not until Nov. 30. I'm with you take2onlife. I appreciate your excitement and hope it flows my way.
  19. PS: Also, the 'My Surgery' section of my profile - how do you edit/update that section??  I want to put my height, weight, etc. there but can't find edit button.

Can someone help me with that?

    Thanks in advance.

  20. I'm new here and unsure how to reply/respond to people. Guess I'll figure it out, or maybe you can help me a lil. lol.  A lil direction would be nice.

I'm still wrapping my head around having this surgery to lose weight. I have completed all requirements, in 2022, and now it's a waiting game.  I missed a call in Aug. to have the surgery. 1st call I have missed in years and it had to be THAT one! :(  I was so upset at myself and then fell back back that weekend to my ol' comfort food; ice cream.  I fall from time to time but then get backup on my Johnny Wayne Saddle and do better.

I have been waiting so long I forgot what the specific surgery is called. 🤔.  It's the one where my stomach will look like a banana.  I just want this done so I can be on my way to a healthier and more active person, and hopefully feel physically and mentally better and better sleep too. We'll see.

Wishing everyone a safe and successful surgery.

    Shawna 😁

    Waking up from surgery

Sooo happy to hear. I'm a baby when it comes to pain. Appreciate your post!! I was called in August for surgery and the 1 time I miss a call on my phone, in literally years, and missed my opportunity. Right now I have no idea when the surgery will be. Completed the 10 week course 'last' Aug., 2022. Sill waiting. How are you doing now? I hope recovery is going well for you.
