Thank you for this post! I decided to make an appointment with my gastroenterologist before moving forward. It sucks because it Is delaying my surgery. But I want to make the best decision and it needs to be addressed.

I have sleep apnea, arthiritis, fatty liver and high cholesterol and am scared as well but I'm also scared of all of these conditions I have and developing more later in life if I don't take control of my obesity. So I have made the decision to go through with the surgery for reals this time and not cancel like twice before.
All I can do now is do everything I can to help this surgery go smoothly. I'm three weeks out and am following a semi liquid diet (even though my doctors office told me it wasn't necessary because I know shrinking my liver and more weight loss before surgery is safer and better)
I take all my supplements and more (with Dr approval) I make sure to get my Protein in to promote faster healing and I've begun therapy/support groups. I'm going to try to take as little pain medication as possible after surgery because too many opiods and surgery dont mix. It seems like all these "celebrity deaths" (Kanye west mother, Lisa marie presleu) after surgery had opiods as a factor. I currently had been taken tylenol codeine #3 (a mild opiod) three times a day for arthiritis and that stopped today. I'm not taking any chances even with this mild one. When I have pain I will use creams or tens therapy or hell even book a massage but I am doing everything In my power to prevent complications.
I've read books and gained a lot of knowledge about the surgery and have asked patients here how they've done it. That's all we can do and then leave the rest up to God/the powers that be.

I decided to hold off on the exercise and just do what others have suggested which is park further and walk farther stuff like that. I'm also laser focused on my diet and am not eating more than 1500 calories and then 12 days ahead not eating more than 1200. I'm doing surprisingly well on my semi liquid diet. I thought i would be so hungry and really I'm not really ever that hungry at all. Today is day 3 and I felt weak and a little out of it and had some headache but it passed. 2 weeks until surgery will be here before you know it!

I did not have bad gas (gastric or trapped) but I moved around a lot. Walking is your friend

that may be an individual thing. I don't remember being any more "gassy" than I was prior to surgery. I do know certain carbs can make people gassy, though.

How much pain you have is variable. I had none after my sleeve but I really knew about it with my gall removal. But the surgical gas is mostly in your abdominal cavity not in your digestive tract so burping & farting have minimal impact. The surgical gas rises up behind your lungs putting pressure on nerves which cause the pain. The gas is absorbed into your lungs & breathed out. Walking, marching on the spot, pumping your arms up & down, slow deep breathing all help you breath that gas out. Heat packs can help with any discomfort. It usually takes about a week to fully pass.
Additional burping or farting can be from the shakes, any sugar alcohols used in the shakes or drinking too quickly, plus the change in your digestive process could be adding to it while your body gets used to the changes. GasX may help with this gas.
As with everything if it persists or gets worse give your team a call.

My nurse said you will burp and farther and we encourage both! LOL

I did neither. And not a lot of pain from gas.

The gas from surgery. I just let it rip. Especially when I was cramping so badly. The nurse even encouraged it. There is zero shame in the hospital... lol

How bad REALLY is the gas right after gastric bypass surgery? Did you just let it rip in front of all the doctors/nurses or did you try to hide it?? 🤣🤣🤣 What helped it and how long until you felt better? I appreciate the input so much as always!! TIA 😊

Thanks everyone this makes me feel so much better. ❤️ I finally have an appointment with my surgeon on Thursday to discuss all of my health problems and concerns, but I like to compare it to what everyone whose been there thinks as well i get such good advice and tips from you guys on here. My all or nothing thinking really gets the best of me sometimes and has me thinking if I can't do it for 30 mins then it's not worth it at all which obviously isn't true!

So I definetely know what the culprit is, whenever I eat that damn Campbell Soup I run to the bathroom lolll. BTW I never had campbell soup before this diet and I must say I find it kind of repulsive, do not like them at all lol. Tomorrow I'm going to try a different brand and see if this happens again like that, wish me luck 😅

    Happy Tuesday Everyone!!
So since I was three weeks out yesterday I decided that it's time to exercise before surgery. I have moderate osteoarthritis and when triggered there is hell to pay. I decided to go on a thirty minute walk around the neighborhood and I couldn't even do that without causing a flare-up after and being in extreme pain to the point of crying.
I have been on tylenol codeine #3 for arthiritis flare ups 3x daily and yesterday I decided to cut it out completely because I want to get rid of as many pills as possible in my system before surgery. Normally I would just take those and be fine but that wasn't an option yesterday and it was really bad. My point is I can't even walk continuously for long without being in extreme pain. I'm not bed ridden or anything just can't do it continuously and briskly like I hoped.
My point is how important is exercise before surgery? I have a tread mill and I'm going to try that today. Maybe straight walking on my joints was too much. Do you think not exercising much before will hinder my recovery or increase my chance of complications? This arthiritis, aside from my family and quality of life of course, is a main reason I decided enough is enough I'm doing this!

Have you tried Monk Fruit sweetener? I used that a lot on Keto and it was great for sweetening (sweeter than sugar) and probably more natural than other alternatives. Lakanto is my favorite brand. For erithryol I would use Swerve. I liked the Monkfruit sweetener better but that worked too!
