    Hey All
I've been having a time as stated in another post. I would have updated in the same post but couldn't find it.
I haven't been able to proceed to soft foods due to vomiting. Yesterday was my 6 week check up. As far as weight loss I was informed I am on target with 35% of excess weight gone which means I have 21 pounds to go for the doctor's office my personal goal is 33lbs BUT getting the 21lbs off will be great with me.
I was also informed "Yesterday" due to the radiology report and the fact I was unable to eat, the doc wanted to do the baloon dialation next morning which was today.
All went well and they saw that the opening was narrow & Initially, the scope could not pass through. The balloon was used to stretch the opening to 10 mm. I am now to progress through today liquids, puree, by dinner soft foods then in a few days to move into more dense (soft) foods etc.

I feel good just sleepy! The meds should be out of my system by tomorrow.
Now the work continues to get into a healthy BMI. No gerd as of now and that is truly a relief!

Thanks so much for your kind words. I’m so scared right now and trying to be positive. It’s hard to do when you’ve got an open wound. I went to the doctor and they had to reopen the incision anD pack it with gauze. I’ve never had anything like this happen before and starting to regret having this surgery.

Hi All, today is my 6th day after surgery, no more gas pain, still feel weak. Today I did good meeting all my goals. Protein 64, Water 48-56. Leaking how to make the full liquids more filling and good. Thanks you all for sharing, it helps when we need to refer somewhere with how we are getting through this. By the Grace of God, I don’t feel Hungary all the time just eat what I need too. I hope it’s always like this.

I would say 3 or 4 days till the incisions felt alittle better. I did a big grocery shopping on day 6. All I took for pain was a couple shots of liquid tylenol. They also gave me a bottle of liquid oxycodone to take home from the hospital. Never took any - it's still full . Honestly, for me,it was one of the easiest surgeries I've had.

I had my gastric bypass surgery on 9/26/2023 and was doing ok recovery until this week. I’ve been in unbearable pain and went to the urgent care and unfortunately my longer incision has an infection. The pain is horrible and I knew something was so wrong because the oxycodone was doing nothing for my pain. Really got freaked out when it began draining in its own. It’s been non stop. 😭😭😭. Very stressed and angry that I’m still having issues and can’t get around better.

I think it’s really easy to get discouraged. My dietitian‘s biggest recommendation was to not weigh yourself until your first official postop appointment and I stuck to that. I had so much inflammation, nothing was likely budging in the first 2-3 weeks but I had lost more than I expected by week 4. Hang in there!!

    Hi All,
My surgery was on 9/28. I’m 27 years old and I am struggling mentally. I finished my first week of fluids and was not great with Protein. My follow up is on 10/12 and I’m nervous. I’m 26 pounds down. I really am just trying to stay positive but I honestly just am regretting it because I’m not fully in control of my life right now. Can’t wait for 12/1 for real food.

Hi I’m 30 days post op (3 weeks) I have transitioned to regular food now . How soon did anyone start taking coffee or preworkouts ? My dr didn’t tell me,but I keep hearing everyone recommended 6 weeks. Problem is I don’t have energy or the will power to go workout /power walk without any caffeine .

Try not to get discouraged....Some of us are just slow losers!!!! I'm 4 weeks post-op (9/7/20 Bypass) and have only lost 14 pounds. I'm doing all the things I'm supposed to be doing! Take your measurements! In four weeks I'm only down the 14 pounds....but I'm down 23.34 inches! I've learned to not compare my journey to others and to not let the scale define me! Just keep following what your Dr/Nutritionist's program and it will happen.

CartyGirl98 you're not doing anything wrong. I just saw my surgeons PA yesterday and was told that in the first 2 weeks you will lose from 7-15 pounds. Sounds like you are right on track. I am just finishing up my last day of pureed foods. At the beginning of starting it, I gained 2 pounds. I am down a total of 13 pounds since surgery on 9/22/23. Hang in there. When is your follow up?

Already discouraged. I had bypass on 9/26/23 and even after 10 days of nothing but fluids and now on pureed and barely eating a teaspoon of each food allowed (LF cottage cheese, LF no sugar added yogurt, mashed potatoes) 3x/day and getting through my 4oz Protein Shake 3x day... I've only lost 7 pounds.
I feel like I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what.
    Annoyed, and disappointed in myself.

NettyD reacted to Jeanniebug in Question about bypass portion sizes
I am 10-months post op, gastric bypass. How much I eat, depends on what I'm eating.
If I'm eating leafy greens, I can eat quite a lot. If I'm eating a drier meat, I can't eat much.
A typical salad for me would be one leaf of iceberg lettuce, 5 grape tomatoes, about 2-3 ounces of Protein, and a little over a tablespoon of Salad Dressing.
If I'm eating a burger, it will usually be one 1/4 pound patty, served with a slice of cheese and Condiments, on a fajita-sized low-carb tortilla. I generally eat about 3/4 of this.
My usual Breakfast is 1 whole egg and two egg whites, scrambled with cheese. Sometimes I can eat the whole thing and sometimes I can't.
I have hungrier days and less-hungry days. I've learned that overeating is unpleasant. If I eat too fast, food gets stuck in my chest and hurts. And that cuts my meal short, which is annoying. Do I still eat too fast? Yes - especially when I've waited too long to eat and I'm hungry. When I eat slower, the meal is more satisfying.
With what I'm eating, I'm basically in maintenance mode. My weight bounces between 166 and 170. Though I haven't hit goal, Both my nutritionist and I are okay with where I'm at, right now.

I’m over 5 years out. I eat about 2oz Protein & one oz veggies for dinner. I have 5 small meals a day.
When we go out I eat about 1/3 of the protein & about 3 small bites of veggies.
If I go over that I know I will put on weight.
If I eat more then that I end up throwing up.

NettyD reacted to The Greater Fool in Question about bypass portion sizes
3oz Protein, 1oz veggies 3 times per day. I eat until I get full or complete the meal, whichever comes first. I complete the meal perhaps 50% of the time.
I am able to eat with friends and the fact that I don't eat much rarely comes up. Though since surgery I'd rather go do something than eat something.
    Good luck,
    Tek

    OK.
So here was my experience. But I do want to stress that this may or may not be the same for you or anyone else.
During weight loss phase and a few months after I was in maintenance, I looked pretty haggard (and older). This was my own opinion, as well a as a select few who who had the balls enough to say to my face. There were likely others who thought the same way, but had the grace to not say so to me, lol.
What i did find that in after a little bit more time into maintenance, i looked much, much less skeletor-ish, and I attribute that to as increase in carb consumption.
And now, 3.5+ years out, i *think* I look younger than I actually am. Im 50 this year. Mind you I do think I look older than before I started the road to obesity, but that was like 15 years ago!
I think alot of people who at first thought they looked pretty run down in the face after weight loss phase find that they start to fill out a little more as time goes on. You'll know when you know.
    Good Luck! ❤️

    NettD my surgery had some
Complications so I have a bit of a longer triad ahead than expected. During the camera insertion a vein was nicked. When they went in with the gas tube, my abdomen had blood. They had to open me up to find the blood. I ended up with my bariatric team as well as a trauma team working on me. One the nick was found it had already sealed and stopped bleeding. I got my sleeve but now I have a huge 12”+ to heal rather than my 5-6 holes I was expecting.

I can’t complaint my doc was a rockstar and controlled my pain amazingly.

Now I’m sick of bed rest and I’m fighting to get Water in since I just wanna sleep and heal.
    How are you doing?

I'm several years out at this point. I think I also got it every three months my first year, but after that just once a year (unless something was "off" - then we'd make whatever adjustment was needed and retest about three months later)

Luckily my license expired 7 months after my surgery so it was perfect timing. I'm concerned about my passport though. I dont think it looks like me at all anymore. I had just renewed so I''m dreading paying for another one.
I've lost 85 pounds and oddly my wedding ring still fits just fine. I always had slim finger so I guess I really didn't lose any weight there. Same shoe size also, but my feet don't hurt anymore!
