For the first time in years, I'm under 200 pounds. Woo hoo. Lost 34 pounds pre-op and now 24 post-op. Surgery was on October 2nd. Weight loss has been slower than I expected, but my nutritionist said that I have lost 48% of my excess weight and am right on track. Yay!

So sorry to hear that. I understand that marketplace healthcare cuz mines changed Dec 1st, that's why I had them do my surgery Nov 27th so we wouldn't have that issue. Pray everything works out for you!

I'm supposed to have my surgery on Dec 27th at Mt Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA, with pre-op tests scheduled for next week. Today, I get an automated message from my hospital to check MyChart. I did, and it showed my pre-test appointment as canceled. My surgery date is also gone from my upcoming visits. No explanation. Meanwhile, my insurance approval appears to have gone through. I called the weight management center's office and the receptionist mumbled something about surgeries being canceled and someone would call to explain. No one has called all day. I emailed, too, but nothing. Now the office is closed for the day and I'm so worked up over this, I won't get a wink of sleep. It wouldn't be such a big deal if it had to be delayed, except I am currently on an insurance plan through the healthcare marketplace as I am self-employed and my husband has been unemployed for a bit. But he starts a new job in January and I have no idea what the health insurance situation is going to be in terms of coverage. I am so stressed right now I could cry.

I’m 12 hours out from surgery. Or at least from having to be at the hospital. Having some Protein broth. It’s actually pretty good it’s chicken Soup flavored Protein Powder that you had to hot Water. My doctor ok’d it for the pre surgery diet. Luckily my program only requires 2 days of liquid diet before surgery. They used to require the two weeks but claim studies have shown 2 days is enough. Still nervous as I said in my last post because I am high risk because I have kidney failure and heart failure but everyone cleared me for surgery. They do think I will have issues with infection and leaking because I am on chronic steroids.

My highest weight was 509 pounds and my weight today is 399 pounds. I am 6 feet tall and my goal weight it ideally 180 but I will be happy at 200

NettyD reacted to Heidi911 in I survived my surgery
I survived my gastric bypass. I spent two nights in the hospital. Doing good on the clear liquid/protein drink diet. Dr wants 64 ounces of Fluid per day so I purchased a bunch of 1 ounce plastic containers with lids and filled 74 of them and put them in my fridge and tomorrow I just have to grab 4-5 per hour and when all are done I am good. I am attaching a picture. I am bound and determined to be successful.

"her comment to me was that she was so glad to know I had weight loss surgery because I looked like I was dyeing from cancer cancer lol!"
Classic example of passive aggressive behavior. I can relate. My mother was obsessive about staying thin. Through my preteen and teen years I would yo-yo between average size to slightly chubby. Within weeks after my youngest child was born, I moved out of state. Two years later I moved back to my hometown. I was thinner than my mother. She would make comments that I was too thin (I wasn't). I was almost 30 and she was in her early 50s. She secretly started abusing diuretics and laxatives to drop pounds in an attempt to be smaller than me. She ended up in the hospital with electrolyte imbalances and deficiencies. Years later, my daughter was battling with about 35 to 40 extra pounds. She asked me to help her with a low carb diet which is how I maintained my weight at 115 to 117 for most of my adult life. She lost the excess weight and I was bragging about my 22 year old daughter's victory to my mother. My 73 year old mother, who was weighing in about140, replied with the most selfish and disgusting comment imaginable...."Great, now I am the only fat one in the family!" I very sharply responded with "That is digusting! Be happy for her. It's her time now."
Be prepared.....people who once secretly pitied you, emotionally supported you and openly cheered your success may now feel threatened by the change in the dynamic. My mother's self-worth was so closely tied to being the most svelte of any woman in her circle. When I surplanted her claim to fame, my mother felt assaulted. My daughter's weight loss after my mother's gain was the final blow to her ego.
Because of my mother's sabatoging and competitive nature, I chose not to tell her about my choice to undergo VSG.

Yeah, I've received quite a few comments like "you look so thin you look like a cancer patient" and "you should gain some weight because you will look much younger". I usually reply with "well, I'm the healthiest I've ever been. So given the choice between transitory looks vs great blood tests and regular blood pressure... Etc. I chose life." It goes in one ear and out the other ear and accompanied with a scowl lol, but I say it for myself.

I don't think that I have had this situation but many people have not mentioned my weight loss at all. Its odd because I have totally changed from a disabled person to one who can do anything my heart desires.

NettyD reacted to Arabesque in Hungry a lot
There are some people who continue to feel hunger after the surgery. Be careful you’re not confusing real hunger & head hunger. Real hunger feels different. I feel like something is wrong & restless. I never want a specific food, favour or texture. And there is a reason why I feel hungry - like I haven’t eaten for a few hours. It does take time to work out your cues for real hunger.
The other issue to consider is you’re still healing. Someone recently posted their surgeon said it can take 8 weeks or more to fully heal internally after a sleeve. This includes your nerves which were cut which is why our messages for hunger, satiety, etc, aren’t accurately felt, or in the case if your restriction not felt at all during this recovery period. It’s why we have to be careful of how much we eat & drink. I always say all because you can doesn’t mean you should. You may be able to eat a portion larger than you’ve been told or drink more but the signals telling you stop or warning you of danger aren’t working properly. Go slowly making small changes. Best not to push to see how much you think you can do.
There’s lots of little things to learn about post surgery, consider & most importantly learn about yourself. But you’ll get there.
All the best with your recovery.

The first thing you should do is get rid of your scale. It is causing you to look for fixes to something that is not broken.
If you're eating to plan, continue eating to plan, you're doing great. If you're not eating to plan, start eating to plan, and you will be doing great. Neither of these require making changes because of the scale.
    Good luck,
    Tek

Congratulations on your last appointment! sleep apnea is a co mobility which qualifies you for the surgery. You will be fine and normally they screen you for sleep apnea in the beginning of your journey. Take this time to learn and prepare for the surgery. I know you’re anxious but it will come!

I had bypass done on Monday. They kept me in the hospital until Wednesday mid morning. They were managing my pain via iv intake, and crushing pills if needed. My first full day home is today and the pain is miserable. I am taking 1000mg of tylenol every 4-6 hours and have to take the oxycodone 5mg pills they gave me to sleep. They only send me with 5 pills and they wear off at 4-5 hour mark so I need two to make it through the night. The pain is mainly in my stomach itself. On the left side. Pain when walking. Pain when drinking. This has been much harder on me than I would have imagined it to be. My throat is also scraped up heavily from the intubation tube so it hurts to swallow as well. Right now Im in misery and praying that tomorrow brings me some more relief. I have kept a binder on and it definitely is better than not having one on. Im failing to keep up on fluids and if I cant improve tomorrow I will be heading in for another iv. In this moment down and out crying wishing I had not done this… but I know if I can power through it… it HAS to get better.

NettyD reacted to AmberFL in What was your “Moment” ?
My moment is when my knees and feet were hurting just getting out bed, and not having the energy to play with my children who are 6yrs old and 18m- even when they ask I gas out too quick. I want to be able to coach my kids sports; I was athletic played all through HS and in shape then after having kids just let myself go. I am embarrassed for my husband because he deserves a wife that loves herself enough to take care of herself. He has never been negative and was shocked that I wanted to go this route because he doesn't think that I need to, but he doesn't have weight issues. I want to get back in shape lose some weight and be there for my kids and husband! Plus it never hurts to look and feel good!
