  3. so tell me what is boot camp???
  4. Karen, Thanks for the info. I know that eating first thing in the morning is important. I need to concentrate on doing that and keeping a log of what I eat. Thanks for the encouragement and you keep up the excellent work. You are an inspiration. Izzy
  5. Karen! Oh my gosh! Share how you have lost 60+ pounds since Oct 9th. I have the same surgery date but have only lost 35lbs. I work out 4+days a week and really watch what I eat. I would love any insider tips to your success. congratulations!

    Any Banders in Portland?

JC1, Was thinking about you, glad you are doing well. Just don't overdo anything too soon because you feel good. Take it easy. I do agree with you about advocating for yourself at the doctor and at the hospital. Did you lose a lot of weight doing the medifast before surgery? Also do you have the date of the January support meeting? So happy for you and your new success story. Keep us posted. Izzyd

    Any Banders in Portland?

Hi JC1, I did get some protein drinks at costco that weren't bad; 30 grams per serving. We found that smoothies, cottage cheese and anything that could slide down was good. It is amazing how tired of "eating" one thing you will get. I still eat a lot of soup mostly because it is easy and seems that everytime I eat meat it gets stuck. It is hard to remember to chew enough especially if you wait too long and are starved! Glad all went well with the medifast and I wish you success through the holidays. Keep me updated on your progress. OH Yeah! I am joining a gym tomorrow so hopefully that will help quicken my progress. Take care

    Any Banders in Portland?

JC1, I have not attended the support group although fully intended on going. I would think it would be a great resource for information and expectencies. I believe the next one is dec 16th but will wait until the January date. Let me know how you do on the medifast. Did Dr Wolfe perscribe that for you presurgery? Izzyd

    Any Banders in Portland?

Hi again JC1, My weight loss has been steady. I have lost 30lbs since surgery and have about 60 plus to go. I feel that I need another fill so hopefully sometime next week. The only think I would have done differently is to have it done sooner. You will still have to watch what you eat, it isn't a miracle cure by any means. I know someone that has had the surgery and has figured out how to consume so many calories that she is failing herself. My friend at work had the surgery 16 days before me at Good Sam and is doing about the same as I am. Prepare to exercise as well. Best of luck and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Any Banders in Portland?

Hi! I had my band done Oct 9th with Dr. Wolfe. He is great, very thorough, and takes a lot of time explaining everything with you. You will never feel rushed with him at an appointment. The procedure went well just be sure to ask for anything you need at the hospital. The nurses seemed run ragged but were very accomodating. You will be down at home for probably at least 5 days before you feel like going out or back to work. My only complaint is getting fill appointments at the Center for Health and Healing, as I have to have mine done as a floroscopy cause my port is hard to locate and the person that makes the appointments is super hard to get ahold of. Good luck and you will be happy with OHSU and Dr. Wolfe. Izzyd:thumbup:
  11. How many Portland Bandsters are there? I am one of three at the school I teach. Actually I am being banded on Thursday at OHSU. Can hardly wait. Guess I will have something to talk about by Nov eh? Will try to make it. Thanks
  12. With an attitude like yours and vocabulary you use I am glad you don't teach in my district. I am also a teacher and detest that attitude. Way to turn a civil discussion into crap!
  13. It is unfortunate that we have a population of uneducated, poverty level people, not only Hispanics, but of every race who are having children they cannot care for properly. We have systems in place such as WIC that provide "food vouchers" and health care. We have illegal immigrants that use our hospital emergency rooms as their personal care physicians because they cannot legally turn anyone awaywho wants health care. It is time we as American's stop footing the bill for people that expect it and do nothing to actually support the US besides "take" and take advantage. It is one thing to be compassionate and idealistic it is another to be a realist and keep what you earn, yes, I said earn!
  14. Gadgetlady I like your style. It is great to hear someone who does their research before putting the info or opinion out there. As for the polls, you can make polls say whatever you want them to say just choose the people you poll. It is incredible to hear people say that Sarah Palin is ignorant and moronic. You may not like her style or her views but there is a much more intelligent way to state yours. Lashing out is not the way to unite America it only tears it farther apart. How can you hate anyone that wants to, in her or his own way, make the United States a better place whether you agree with their philosophy or not.
  15. Maybe you can logically explain your comment. Just how is she a moron?
