As others have said, how you experience restriction will be different than others - it varies widely from person to person. For me, I feel chest pressure. No pain, nothing uncomfortable, but its definitely nothing like feeling "full" before surgery. This is more just a sort of immediate awareness in my chest. That's when I stop eating. That's nearly always followed by one really loud hiccup. It has changed a little over time (I'm 15 months post-op), but by and large its pretty consistent and I've learned to listen to it.
On the exactly ONE occasion I ate beyond that, I was nauseous and uncomfortable, so I walked laps in my living room for 20 minutes or so and it settled.
    No violent projectile vomiting ever.

Restriction for me is simply feeling stomach bubbles & a bit of tightness on my chest but not in a scary way. Its just my bodies way of telling me I'm getting full. Nothing scary or gross!

Restriction to me is the emotional or mental feeling of wanting to eat a whole pizza but after a few bites, you feel you have had enough. The build up to the point is different to everyone. Everyone has different signals like runny nose, hiccups, pressure in their upper chest... Etc. I just feel satisfied. I stop early, at about 75% full. I learned in the early days of my first surgery 2008, one bite too many can give you hours and hours of being uncomfortable. I recently went through another new learning curve after my revision to bypass ( for gerd).

My program doesn’t set goal weights (however they do ask if you have one to asses if your goals are realistic).

My goals were focused on my health (all met and surpassed) so far, but I have personally set mini goals for myself. First one was get below 300 pounds. (Check) Second mini goal was loose 100 pounds total (as of today check… 57 pounds before surgery, 43 pounds since surgery). I haven’t set my next mini goal yet - I need to think about it a little. I am hoping to loose a good bit more… working towards a healthy BMI, but along the way if I feel like “this is where I feel and look my best” I’ll stay there. I’d love to hit ONEderland, just because it’s been forever since I’ve been there… but we will see where this journey takes me.

You don't choose goal weight. Goal weight chooses you.

I changed mine a few times. When I first started the program, I told them 200 lbs. I was so shocked when they said that was entirely possible, since weighing 200 lbs was a pipe dream for me at the time. When I got down to about 220, I told the dietitian I wanted to shoot for about 170. She said if I worked really hard at it, I might be able to make it. When I got down there, I said now I wanted to shoot for 150. They told me that was pretty unrealistic, because only about 10-15% of their patients get to a normal BMI (150 is in the normal BMI range for my height). Not only did I hit that, but I kept going until I hit 138 (I've since gained back about 20 lbs - but I was more-or-less expecting that since I know most people do have a 10-20 lb rebound after hitting bottom)

My goal weight has shifted a couple times; my initial goal was 120 but when I kept losing, I moved it to 110 to account for any eventual regain. I'm below that right now, and am trying not to get under 100 because I'm already getting the "too thin" comments from family.
I don't think having your goal weight change is uncommon; most of us have been overweight for so long that we don't have a good idea of what we looked like at that weight, or how we will feel at that size. I haven't weighed this little since I was 16 years old.

i chose 120lbs as it was the mid-point for the "normal" BMI weight range for my height (5'2"). no real rhyme nor reason why i decided this way, other than i had no other ideas, ha also, i figured it was doable since i was that weight in my twenties. its worth noting here my surgeon said that he would consider my weight loss a success if i reached 175lbs (or was it 165?, i can't remember)
by the time i got to 127, i decided to stop weight loss as i felt i was looking too thin.
kept losing weight anyway, got down to 109, then settled into 115-ish for 2 or so years, but for almost the past year ive been consistently closer to 120 (am 4 years post op today).
p.s. despite weighing less today than what i did when i decided to stop weight loss, in my opinion, i think i look better now (less gaunt and frail looking).

I didn't/ don't have a goal weight because I have been crushed by not achieving it in the past. Also I don't know how far this surgery will take me. The hospital dietician said I could loose 65% of my excess weight and I have already smashed that, her words. Loosing 100lbs was my first goal and I got there easy. I personally would like to get under the 200lbs barrier even if its only a pound. Not being in the obese category would be nice too......

I've had a lower body lift, an arm lift, a breast lift, and a face/neck lift. And yes - I'm very happy with the results.
many surgeons will recommend you wait a year once you reach goal to make sure your weight is stable before having plastic surgery. Reason being is that a significant gain can affect your results.

I didn't create a password. I used the option to register/sign on with my Google account. It's similar to signing on with your Facebook account. The Android app doesn't have that option so I would have to create a second account..

I created my account by signing onto the site using my Google/Gmail account. Since then I have downloaded the app and when I try to sign on using the app it wants my name and password. But I have never used a password and cannot find a way to add one. What do I need to do so I can sign on from the App (specifically the Android App).

If you order from the Bariatric Pal store:
I sent this message to customer service about 5 weeks ago, and they said they would look into it. The same thing happened AGAIN today. 😡
If you agree, please consider sending them a note, too.

    Dear BP Store,

Until this week, all of the products that I have purchased from your store has come with a return label that indicates “BP Store.”

However, my latest package contained the words “Bariatric Pal” on the label.

It might seem small, but for those of your customers who are not public with our surgery choice, this can be revealing, embarrassing, and could even lead to our health information inadvertently shared.

Would you please consider changing the return label to the old “BP Store” label? Most of the products I get from your store can be purchased from other places, and I may need to consider this to protect my health information.

    Thanks for your consideration!

Will you have anyone traveling with you at all? I hope the flights aren't too tough on you while you are recovering.

My surgery time is 8:30am and I have to be at the hospital at 6:30. I am grateful for the early time.

I started wearing masks in public again a couple of weeks ago and I will be home from now until surgery date. Only grocery pickup, if I need to. I was contemplating getting another booster for my C-19 series but my doc said I should be good since it ran through my family a couple of months ago. My partner still has to go to work for a few days before my surgery, so that is a potential exposure. Glad my kids are out of school, though!

Hi! I have got a surgery date of June 23, 2022! I am wondering if there is anyone on this forum that lives in Washington State, the Pacific Northwest to be exact, or, to be even more exact... The Olympic Peninsula? I'd love someone to talk to, whether you have had the surgery yet or not. Just someone who is on the same journey as me would be fantastic!

Actually I think it is gas pain, just not the kind you may be thinking of. It's not gas in your intestines, it's from the gas (most likely carbon dioxide, a.k.a. CO2), that they pump into your abdominal space during surgery. This puts pressure on everything inside that space, and can irritate things like the peritoneum (the lining over the abdominal organs). That said, I think for most people, the worst pain is the pain they feel in the lower chest, or even up into the shoulder. This is again caused by the surgery gas putting pressure put on the diaphragm, which irritates the phrenic nerve.
Eventually this gas will be reabsorbed back into your tissues, then into your bloodstream, and will eventually be processed out by your lungs. In short, you'll actually breathe it out. For most people this can take up to a week or so, but it should be getting better every day.
In the interim, 2 things seem to help most people:
Walking. This helps move things around, especially the CO2 that may have settled under your diaphragm, but keep in mind that when you walk, you are also turning over more oxygen & CO2, which speeds up the process of removing the CO2 from your blood. Most recommendations are you walk at least 15-20 minutes every 2 hours, but more is better. Hot pads. This can help as well, and it works for many of the same reasons walking does. You are dilating blood vessels which helps your body process the extra CO2 and pull in more oxygen. You may also be feeling some incisional pain, but for most people this is more minor in nature.
I will close by mentioning that if it's NOT getting better every day, contact your team ASAP. There is a possibility something else is going on with you and they will be in the best position to advise you.
    Best of luck.

Verrry interesting. That whole section (see attached screenshot) just appeared between when I posted and right now when I logged in again to see your message. It simply wasn't there until now. Perhaps that's how it happens when someone is newly-registered to the website. I've filled in the little information I have so far, as I'm at the very beginning of this journey. Thanks to all who reached out and helped me complete my profile to date. It will help other newbies, I'm sure.

So I am all booked for a gastric sleeve abroad, self funded, on 29th December. I've told 2 people, one of my sisters and tonight I told a friend. Big mistake!
This friend has family members who have had sleeve surgery. But their initial reaction was to tell me about morbidity rates and how the country I was choosing was a bad one.
It was so upsetting to have them launch into this spiel without asking a single question. Not asking how I chose my surgeon, not asking what made me decide to go through with the surgery, nothing...just a warning to think twice about it.
They then tried to ask me when I was having it and I told them I wouldn't be discussing it further with them . As if it wasn't nerve racking enough to make this huge life decisions...a close friend having that kind of reaction is just so upsetting. Questioning myself entirely, now!!
