  1. With the preface this probably most likely to appeal to the millennials in the group based on song selection I wanted to share a workout playlist that’s been pushing me to excel in my workouts. It’s been great for 45 minutes medium high - high intensity cardio followed by 5-10 low to medium intensity and 5-10 cool down and stretch. I’d love to hear about the playlists that push your fitness forward.
  2. 4 months out and mine won’t allow me a low carb tortilla yet 😭
  3. I’ve written here in the last weeks how I’ve really been lacking energy. Recently I’ve been noticing my mind (which is most definitely exhausted) either over estimating how tired my body is or how much effort something will take me … for instance like a short half mile walk to the pharmacy after a grueling day. It’s like my head is saying on repeat you’re too tired to do this even as I walk, but as I check in with my body walking, I realize my body is just fine, feels good even. I imagine this is in part the balance of having lost 60+ lbs since first visiting my surgeon for a consult last august. I’m alittle over 2 months post sleeve. I also wonder if any of mental exhaustion has to do with the effect of the restriction on my adhd. Anyone else experience a similar mind body disconnect?
  4. Hi all. My sister is getting married in November and I’m her maid of honor. I will need to order my bridesmaid dress for her wedding by late May. I will likely wait until as close as possible to deadline to order. I am going to probably err on the size of larger size and rely on tailoring or even possibly get two dresses. I roughly know what size I was when previously in the weight range I think I may be by November but it’s all a bit of a guessing game. Anyone have first hand experience doing something similar?
  5. On week 5 you should still really only be focused on your protein and hydration 60+ gr of protein 64+ oz of water. At 5 weeks out my food tracker tells me I was getting around 600 calories a day, but I wasn’t counting calories per my team’s instructions… only focusing on protein and hydration.

    Not sure about the sleeve

With the sleeve they remove the hunger hormone as well do you will lose you hunger in general. I’m never hungry. Regardless of the surgery you choose neither is an easy button you have to listen to and follow the advisement of your medical team even if you disagree with them or you won’t be as successful. It sounds like you are already disagreeing with or not trusting your surgeon do perhaps it’s worth exploring a different surgeon bec if the distrust and disagreement continues it may lead to a less successful results.
  10. I know this doesn’t answer your question directly but, are you doing much strength training? Adding muscle is a sure fire way to increase your daily caloric burn rate. We inevitably lose muscle during the weight loss phase and adding some of it back will facilitate further weight loss if that’s what you are interested in.
  11. Sugar free popsicles are your friend!!
  12. So glad your nutrition has given you advice that’s offered some hope amidst the frustration 🫶
  13. Love protein2O!! I’ve always used the liquids version but have wanted to try the powders. I’ll definitely bring trying this. Protein 2O has been an integral part of my success so far and I know it will continue to be an important part of my routine.

How long were you off work?

I work 60- 80% remotely. I took off a week initially but added two additional days and was back to work 9 days after surgery. I worked from home the rest of that second and the full third weeks. I often felt tired in the afternoon and planned naps to help with my productivity.

    December 2022 Buddies

Checking in on how everyone is doing 2 - 2.5 months out. I’m finally getting my energy back. I had bloodwork done last week ahead of my 3 month checkin with my surgeon and just got the results back. All my blood panel and nutritional numbers are in the optimal range! In such a short time period I went from: - 6.2 A1C (prediabetic) to 5.1 (non-diabetic) -194 to 75 mg/dL triglycerides -134 to 96 LDL Cholesterol - 214 to 158 mg/dL overall cholesterol My protein, calcium, and all other nutrients are where they should beAnd I’m honestly just so grateful I’ve followed the advisement of my team and hadthe support of the folks here. Since my December 5 surgery I’ve dropped 2-3 sizes (3 top, 2 bottom) and 38lbs! Since I started this process on August 6 (my first consult) I’ve dropped 60lbs. Really excited for my appointment with my surgeon next week to use the InBody machine and see how that translates to body fat percentage across various regions of my body. A month into 2x/week personal training I am seeing huge gains in my strength and pulmonary capacity for HIIT. My one a day swims are back to my pre-surgery speed when I was swimming twice a day 5x week. I’m still tired most evening after 6pm and only halfway to my goal. I get frustrated with stalls and am not always perfect, but overall my only regret is not taking this step sooner. Hope everyone is doing well and sending some December surgery love.

    October 2022 surgery support

My surgery was in December’22 but I just wanted to say since I joined BP pre surgery I’ve appreciated the activity of the OCT ‘22 group which at two months ahead of my own surgery has almost served as a crystal ball for me at every step in this journey. It goes without saying this is an Oct 22 surgery group appreciation post.

    Food Boredom

I gained 100lbs in recovery for an bulimia so I mean this just isn’t true.  You speak about weight gain, and consumption as a compulsion and love affair as if they are inherently the same things and they just aren’t. No one calls alcoholism a love affair with booze, nor is a love affair with food is not inherently the same thing as binge eating disorder or the compulsive eating, addictive behaviors you describe. That’s not love that’s disordered eating and to many people who experience it it feels more like a prison than a romance. Further there are plenty of reasons people gain weight or struggle to lose not limited to medical issues or life long yo-yo dieting socialized in people since childhood resulting in an insurmountably low bmr. It also ignores the idea of a body’s set weight which numerous medical studies have pointed to as a valid hypothesis and part of why wls is one of the only weight loss tools with long term sustainable success. Let’s try to be sensitive that everyone’s story and struggle respect their own personal reflections of it.
  18. Apologies - on re-read I can see how this came off that way. I’m a lawyer and it is my curse to be using overly persuasive language even when it’s not my intention. I meant no offense and certainly understand why GERD would play a big role in the decision for someone who’s had it previously- I perhaps misread the OP’s concern about GERD to be about future GERD and not previously having it as well. Regardless the right surgery is ultimately the one that will make each of us thrive based on on personal needs and that’s only appropriately determined on an individual basis. What was most important for me to convey to the OP was the malabsorption of daily medications - as someone who takes adderall for adhd, and occasionally Xanax for anxiety malabsorption for me could have been crippling. This was front of mind for me in seeing a recent post of someone 10 years out who had struggled with the same for her anxiety meds. I apologize if what I actually typed seemed like a rant against bypass. I think it’s an amazing life saving surgery and value all my BariatricPal bypass havers for the fantastic support they’ve provided me. Finally thank you for teaching me something about malabsorption I was under the mistaken impression unlike dumping it was experienced by all bypass patients and now I know better.

    Food Boredom

Try asking chatgpt to suggest recipes. If you can be specific indicating you had wls or macros you require…it’s surprisingly pretty good
  20. For me I chose the sleeve because bypass was going to lead to a lifetime of absorption issues and problems with medication I take daily. I’ve feel like there is no reasons to mess with two organs and add additional issues. With absorption if you can achieve success without doing it from both an evolutionary perspective and quality of life. GERD runs in my family but I didn’t experience it before the sleeve, and post sleeve it’s been v mild and occasional at most. If you don’t currently have an issue with GERD or have one that can be controlled by diet and your surgeon recommends the sleeve why subject yourself to a lifetime of malabsorption and dumping?

    April 2022 VSG surgery..

So much of that is likely water if you weren’t eating right. When I was closer to that weight I could easily fluctuate by 5lbs of water. Just reset your course and it should be off by Thursday this week if you stick to your advisements and avoid sodium.
  22. I’m thinking about a post WLS clothing share subscription business that sends folks a capsule wardrobe size down each month (adjusted as needed) and return labels to send back the as your next shipment arrives. Wondering if this is a service folks would consider subscribing to and what they’d be willing to pay.
  23. And to the OP I’m so surely you are experiencing so much and so frustrated on your behalf like arabesque that your bypass surgeon and prescribing doctors did not offer you competent advisory to prevent//better treat these issues. Wishing you receive peace.
  24. If sleeve is an option for you I have had no problem absorbing anxiety medication and adhd medication post gastric sleeve but as summerseeker said if you have any doubts don’t hesitate to hit pause - it’s a life time commitment and worth the few extra months to throughly investigate your concerns.

    Revision

Hey Tina, the unfortunate reality is people who go through wls statistically are more likely to commit suicide than the general population and often are at a higher risk of depression. I think a lot of folks here encourage therapy frequently in replies. Sometimes i understand it can be jarring to have that suggested but I think by and large when it is it’s not meant in a way that’s judgmental as much as it is mindful of these statistics.
