When I first came home from the hospital, there were all these pizza commercials on and pizza was my favorite food. All I could think about was pizza and cake. Since then I tried the ricotta bake and the no crust pizza and it subsided those thoughts, but I find that I don't like pizza/marina based foods like spaghetti and lasagna anymore. The sauce is very acidic to me now and I no longer crave it or want it. Also, I used to love chicken tenders and French fries, but after taking a bite, it made me feel so sick that I don't want fried foods or high fatty foods anymore either or half and half in my coffee or hot tea. I definitely went through a mourning period and am still finding my way through this journey.

Oh yes, I don't like the sugary drink once it gets flat either. I've tried to drink the zero sugar drinks but they upset my stomach and are very sweet. I enjoyed my cirkul but it isn't carbonated. My husband and my daughter eat a lot of fast food or highly carb filled foods, so I can understand when they think that you eat something weird. Even though they are supportive it's still very difficult to not eat or at least take a bite or 2 of it. I did get them to try the chicken meatballs and cauliflower rice and they liked that so it's a start. I'm really really trying to change my habits but I'm finding that I'm not meal prepping enough. I feel like I need to take that modo "a boy scout is always prepared' and apply it to my eating habits. 🤔

I started losing my hair at 2 months post-op and it stopped after my dietician recommended that I drink an ounce or 2 of keifer per day which was at 4 months post-op. I did it for a month because she didn't tell me how long I needed to until the next month when I went back for my visit and I was only supposed to do it for a week. However, it seemed to reset my gut microbes and helped with a the constant nausea I was having.

I feel as though I can relate to what you've been going through. I've been losing slowly myself and they have me tracking all of my foods so that I am noticing how many carbs I am eating. My program suggests limiting carbs to 30 grams per day. I find this extremely difficult especially after the surgery because I get really tired after eating a higher Protein meal. I do meal prep. I take a cup of chicken and marinate it in different marinades, cook it and I freeze it in small containers so that I have Snacks or ready cooked protein for meals. I keep cottage cheese, boiled eggs, and string cheese or cubed cheese handy in the fridge. I have tried to change all my high carb foods like potato chips, ice cream, and milk to the high protein versions. I get the Quest high protein chips, fairlife milk, and if I want any ice cream I get the yasso greek yogurt frozen bars. My biggest problem is the vending machine at work. Cheez-its are my kryptonite and I'm just really lucky that the past 3 weeks they haven't restocked the machine with Cheez-its 🤣.

I have a hard time with drinking the no sugar drinks like diet coke or coke zero. Too many of any diet drink and my stomach is upset. Also, I'm having a hard time with drinking plain Water because I don't like the taste. When I saw the dietician this month she suggested that I get an infuser water bottle and it's helping. She told me that I needed to make sure that I was drinking enough water, reaching my protein goals, and try to keep my carbs as close to 30 as I can. She also suggested that I start doing some cardio every day 15-30 minutes.

I have lost a total of 60 pounds including 15 before the surgery. I still want to lose another 30-40 pounds and I'm 7months post-op. I've only been losing about 5 lbs each month since about 2 months post-op. I'm hoping to see more weight loss with the changes that I keep implementing. I was very discouraged when I started noticing everything that I was doing but my doctor and dietician were so supportive. They were very encouraging and told me that the surgery is my tool but that I would have to make some long-term lifestyle changes and the fact that I'm noticing what I'm doing and trying to make corrections that I was still on the right path. I'm sure that you will also reach your goals and the Hair loss will stop eventually. Once the hair loss stops you'll have a bunch of baby hairs growing in 😁.

I mixed the caffeine free and the caffeinated tea/coffee slowly reducing the caffeinated until I went completely caffeine free coffee and tea. Caffeine free still has a small amount of caffeine in it though, but I didn't get that dreaded caffeine withdrawal headache.

Thanks everyone. They actually told me to drink 2 ounces of kefir in the morning (to do an intestinal flora reset) and switch my Vitamins with Iron, to before bed. The kefir has been a life changer. I feel a lot better. The nausea still comes but not as bad and it's a bit later in the day. They also told me to drink more fluids because sometimes when we need fluids we might feel nauseous. This has definitely been a journey and of course it's on going. Thanks again.

Yup the Clean Plate Club gets me now too. The weird thing is that before surgery I could have cared less, I would eat until I'm full. Now I make a small portion about a half cup size and I want to finish it all even if I honestly can't. I get a little depressed when I can't finish the last 2 or 3 bites. It's definitely a mental game. I'm just getting to the point that people are noticing my weight loss. I deflect it as much as I can or change the subject mid sentence again only if I can.

I'm a little over 3 months out and I've lost 47lbs from my heaviest (32lbs from surgery date). People just started noticing just in the past few days. My husband of course noticed within weeks after the surgery even though my clothes still hid most of my weight loss. I tried to pay attention to all the non scale victories, like my ankles weren't swollen anymore, my shoes and slippers fit better, and my rings could fit my fingers in the first few weeks. I also was happier that my blood pressure was down and that my sleep apnea has gotten better and that happened almost immediately after surgery.

I had parathyroid surgery in 2011 and I broke out with a rash all over my body a few days afterwards. I was able to get into a dermatologist and it was because they gave me IV steroids in recovery because I was dry heaving. The dermatologist told that it was because my body needed to be taken off them a little slower (not everyone is as sensitive to them as I am apparently). She gave me a 7 day dose of them that I had to taper off of and it cleared up within a few days. This was just my experience, everyone is different. I'm glad to see that you are going to go to Urgent Care.

I had ricotta bake a bunch. It's ricotta cheese and some marinara/spaghetti/or pizza sauce baked in the oven for a few minutes just to get it warm. I was also allowed to eat egg salad and chicken salad. I just put it in the blender with a tablespoon of low fat mayo and mustard and other seasonings. It hurt to eat too many bites of any of those for me though.

naynay77 got a reaction from learn2cook in How to get rid of horrible taste and over salvation
I constantly sip Water except for the 30 minutes before I eat or 30 minutes after I eat. However, I brush my teeth more often now. Almost every time I eat and before I start cooking. Why before I start cooking? I have a tendency to snack on the items that I'm cooking and having freshly brushed teeth makes me not want to put food in my mouth while my teeth are still minty fresh. If I can't brush my teeth, I use mouth wash to try to get rid of that terrible taste.

I'm so grateful for your post also. I've been craving seafood like crazy, however I'm still having a hard time with vegetables. I changed from liking half and half to wanting fairlife high Protein lactose free skim milk. Before surgery I could eat grapenuts Cereal in half and half now that makes me nauseous just from the thought of it. Half and half smells like butter to me, it's really hard to explain. I'm petrified of eating anything fried because of how sick it makes me, before surgery I ate fried chicken strips almost daily telling myself that it was healthy..... While I still miss my relationship with pizza and fried chicken strips, I'm learning to enjoy my new relationship with food. I'm grateful for this forum because I can reach out to others who are going through the same thing that I am and I can talk through it or research it and realize that I'm not alone. That sometimes this to shall pass or this is my new normal.

I had my surgery 12/2/22 and I can only use Monk Fruit that doesn't have the sugar alcohols. I get nauseous with anything else and will eventually have diarrhea if I drink/eat too much of anything that has stevia or other artificial sweeteners. I can't even chew the sugar free gum without it upsetting my stomach.

I tried to pay attention to the non scale victories during the my stall. While I knew that the scale wasn't moving, my clothes were getting loser, my rings were fitting better, and my slippers/shoes weren't nearly as tight. I got sleeved on 12/2 and I stalled at week 3 so I stopped stepping on the scale until I went to my monthly follow up (which was actually 5 weeks after my surgery last week) and I had lost another 2 lbs.

I had to do 3 month's of weigh-ins and a psych eval. After those were completed, I had blood work, chest x-ray, and EKG to complete. Once all the results of that were completed they scheduled me for a Endoscopy. The doctor's office called me about a week after the Endoscopy results were in and they told me that they were submitting all my paperwork to the insurance company. It took another 3 weeks before I received the call that I was approved by the insurance company and the surgery was scheduled 3 weeks later.
