Weighed myself today and i seriously thought i gained weight. but finally i am under 200lb at 197. I have not been under 200 since i was in high school. So happy. It took around 2 months to loose nearly 10lb being this far out from surgery.

I could be you, you’re not alone. I got help through my clinic and Psychologytoday.com because loosing weight and lifestyle changes is a major head game. If we could do it all by ourselves we would have. Therapy has helped me tremendously. You are worth it!

I had a VSG 12 years ago. I was 54 years old. I can make the math easier. I am 66 - quickly approaching 67, this spring. I was miserable, recently divorced, single parenting a teenager, working.... and my weight had hit 320. I was, at that time 5'3", and morbidly obese. I went on my own diet, and lost just over 20 pounds, went to the Doctor and requested weight loss surgery. I did their 12 week mandatory pre diet and classes. I was approved, and got my surgery.
Fast Forward.... I lost weight to about 175 pounds. I went from a women plus 28 to a 14/16 petite.... depending on the clothing. I also Lost my younger brother, mother and then my father during those last 12 years. And I gained back weight. I weighed 220..... So Just before the pandemic, I decided to try to lose 10 pounds in a year. Thank goodness for my VSG. My body remembered how to do this. I lost the ten pounds in the matter of a couple months. I decided that since I had issues with regain, I would pause and maintain the weight loss for at least a month or more, before starting to lose weight again. I wanted to LEARN how to maintain the loss. Each 5 or ten pounds, I would stop losing ON PURPOSE - and maintain the weight I was at. I lost back to 173 pounds. I weighed that is graduate school. 1983. I maintained my weight for the past year between 172 to 175.
A couple months ago, I decided to try to lose a bit more. The scale was reading 175 more often then I wanted. So.... I did it again. Even more slowly. Right now, I am doing my " lets maintain this for a while" thing.... and weigh 164 I think I might have weighed that in college... like maybe 1978.....before going back for the Masters Degree in 1981. My old Navy size 16 petite that I bought two years ago are too big. I just bought TARGET jeans in a size 14. Age does weird to a woman's body, as does loose skin.... But I can tell you this.... my VSG is still there. I won't ever be 'skinny' - but I am basically barely overweight (you get a few extra pounds on the SMARTBMI scale adjusted for age !) and I am more than thrilled. Do I eat perfectly ? Nope. I have a treat every darned day. A couple Cookies or a small dish of ice cream.... or a bit more carbs than are necessary... But I am so flipping "normal" - I am not the heaviest human at work. Someone asked me to "slide" in to sit at a table that was close to the wall because I could "fit". I stood there staring at them..... If we have take out delivered to the office, I participate. I order something that I can eat for another two meals after having lunch.
Challenges ? Plenty. Did I manage to raise a great kid, who is doing well ? Yes. Have I figured out how I need to eat to "DO ME" ? Finally. At 66 years young !!! 2004 pic.eml 2022pic.eml
I tried to put in pics 2004 and 2022 320 pounds and now 164 pounds

I stepped on the scale this morning and saw 199! I haven’t been one-ANYTHING since I was a teenager! I’ve seen 299, 279, 249, etc… but to see 199 makes me emotional! I had VSG in September and just celebrated four months post op! Just wanted to share my little win!

Sleeved 9-1-22. Hope4NewMe, you are doing great. I have lost 40+ pounds. I am at 158 today. Had several stalls but I guess that is to be expected. My hair is shedding right now, too. My bloodwork levels are good. It does feel good to put on smaller sizes, doesn't it? I gain weight all over and am losing it the same way. Which is good, I guess but it makes it hard to actually SEE changes. Hmmm, smaller but the same shape. You said, "you're brain still thinks I am the same size". Maybe my brain is doing the same thing! I, too, am so glad I had this surgery. Have fun on your cruise!

Congrats! Sounds like you are doing amazing! I think you are right that losing weight all over makes it harder to see, at least to ourselves. Hope our hair decides to stop falling out soon lol. Thank you for the update, its nice to read and hear about how others are doing.

Wow, 100 pounds in just 4 months is outstanding!! You are so close to your goal too! I do know that weight loss slows down which is why I said that I hope that I can have that happen. I guess its better to be prepared if it doesn't but I like having hope lol. Thank you for the wonderful update, I'm so happy that you are doing so well!

Yes, crazy good to wear those smaller sizes! I've been losing so fast that I've actually dropped through some clothes I bought after surgery. I still struggle to see it myself sometimes, but going from a tight 44 to a lose 38 waist in pants makes it pretty obvious.
I've had a few major stalls as well, but am officially down over 100 pounds now. I'm obviously really happy about that, but also a bit shocked at how fast it's come off.
@Hope4NewMe don't count on maintaining a 10 pound loss per month. For the math geeks, most of the time weight loss follows a pattern called exponential decay. It looks something like this:

The important takeaway is that the closer you get to goal, the slower the loss.

since you're a size 18 (although I don't know how tall you are), you may or may not lose that much boobage. Most of us who've lost a ton of weight (100+ lbs) end up deflated there. Some people have breast augmentations. I hated being "well-endowed", so I had a breast lift and reduction. I wanted to be a "B" cup - or "C" at the most. Now I've got it!

I had VSG sleeve with the Weight loss team in Puerto Vallarta. You have access to Gerald Witt before and after surgery. He is 4 years post op. They have a Facebook group with over 2000 people. Not a ton of posting but there are a lot of resources. The hospital was top notch and Dr. Para was great. My experience was very good but almost 30 days post op and no issues. I am a very self directed individual though. The cost was $4200 which was all the doctors hospital etc. There were a few other charges and for me I too the family and rented an Airbnb. It was a great time for my wife and 3 kids but even for me it was nice. If you are like me and insurance doesn't cover it was great for me.

i was a bit over your inquiry weight of 205 on surgery day, but sorta close enough, so here's my experience:
Am 5'2", 223 on surgery day (was 235 two weeks prior due to 2wk-pre-op diet).
Recovery was uneventful, no issues nor unexpected side effects (i knew i would be sore and tired for a few days, and i was. took Tylenol for a few days for the pain, and luckily, no gas...i attribute this to walking since day one.)
Got to goal (127 lbs) 7 months later (again uneventfully) and am 118.8 lbs this morning, at 4 years post op.

Sleeved on 9-1-2022. Surgery date weight 200, current is 172.2. Height 5'2. My beginning BMI was pretty low, about 36. I am so glad I had this surgery! I didn't have to take any pain meds. Never had nausea or anything. Looking forward to getting off meds for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. AND learning to nourish my body properly! Overall, a very positive experience.

Guys this is your que to exit it’s about to be weird. Ladies stick around for the fun!!! So today I decided after work I needed to decompress. Which means self care night! This usually entails a long hot shower shaving exfoliating you know the works. All the things that make us feel normal again. I have lived in this house since 2019 and have NEVER attempted a “bath”. Let’s face it my bathtub looks like it is just big enough to fit a baby hamster in. But tonight I felt like I would give it a shot… I FIT COMFORTABLY!!!! Then to top it off it came time to shave and my cat is visible. I can see her and all her glory with minimal movement!!! I have not shaved with out fear of snagging that beautiful little sailor In so long!!! Let me tell you it was wonderful!!!!

Pinto Beans with ground beef. I use canned pintos and cook until very soft and thick, not just heated up. Add cooked, well drained ground beef or turkey. One can beans and about 4 oz of meat will last me about 3-4 meals. I was sleeved on 9-1-22 and have lost 30 pounds

Today is exactly 2 months from my surgery. I only lost 8 pounds thanks to a 3 week stall but I did lose 7 inches total from all of my measurements. Last month I lost mostly on my stomach and lost 4 inches just in that one spot. This month I lost mostly on my thighs and calves probably because my only exercise is walking on the treadmill. I'll take any and all progress though! I hope this next month is better then the last but as long as I keep going down, even if its super slow, I'll be happy.

Thanks so much for both of your replies. It does encourage me a lot. I had yesterday an ultrasound in preparation for the surgery , and was told I am grade I Non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Plus my high blood pressure and high cholesterol. All in all, I am more reassured today. In fact , I started thinking about SG as a mostly aesthetic issue to my overwheight, but now I am paying much more focus upon the positive health issues.

I went down to 200lbs the day of surgery, I'm 3 weeks out & have lost 15lbs. I read a passage in my bariatric handbook that basically said, 'Your metabolic rate is higher when you weigh more, meaning you lose more doing less. Weighing less will slow that down. Essentially, the surgery will help you when losing weight is at its hardest.'
Aka, this will help us lose those stubborn last pounds! Its very encouraging for me

Totally agree with everything you said. Loved your analogy, too. It is amazing how WLS helps with health issues. I have a diabetic friend that lost about a hundred pounds through diet but still had diabetes, gained some weight back, then had the Sleeve Surgery and within 2 months is totally off diabetic meds as well as his other meds. My experience has to do with gastric problems. For over 4 years I have had gastritis and colitis causing, vomiting daily and severe diarrhea to the point of not being able to leave my house. After many tests, 2 colonoscopies, 3 EDGs, and many, many meds it was finally discovered I had developed a hiatal hernia, ulcers and a damaged pyloric caused by having about 5 times too much stomach acid that was destroying my stomach lining and allowing the acid to seep throughout my digestive system causing severe intestine problems. I was sleeved on 9-1-22. From day 1, no more gastric problems at all! And have lost 30 pounds so far.
Congratulations on making a decision that is best for you and continued success in your journey to better health. As stated, it is not a "cheat', or the easy way out. It is what is best for YOU!
