I just scheduled my surgery for October 4th! I am also going to get the VSG. I have been working with my surgeon since May. I have a pre op weight loss goal that I’m still working on, and I had already lost some weight before meeting the surgeon. In total they want me to be down 57 pounds from my heaviest weight. I have about 20 pounds to go still. I’m also working on the fast food bit. That’s definitely been a hard one for me. It’s so easy to just want to pick something up after a long day.

So far I have slowly made changes to
1.)only eating fast food maybe once a week. I would have it 5+ meals a week last year.
2.) reducing most processed foods (nothing is off limits, but if it’s not healthy, be mindful of the portion)
3.) not eating when not hungry
4.) I used to drink a glass of sweet tea a day, dropped that to occasional - drinking Water or unsweet tea almost exclusively except for my weekly Margarita:)
I am on a diabetic medicine which has helped with the process because it has changed the way my stomach processes food and helped me to make the lifestyle changes now. Thanks to that I have lost 50 already and hoping to loose more by the time for surgery.
my next step is to try to do a test run on the pre op diet so I can not have my eating issues complicate matters when time comes (which hopefully will let me loose more)
it’s a journey I want to be success at so bad!!

Looking at October 2022 for my surgery (vsg)
anyone else around that time ???

I am already making a lot of dietary changes and want to do a “trial run” of some of the presurgical dietary requirements so that my brain and food issues don’t sabotage my success when it comes down to go time.

Soo…. Roll call for October ??

Ahhh true true. When covid hit, I had the hardest time getting the supplies that I needed. We all did. Tough times. I always have so many paper towels now lol. Now when I really like something, I hoard it.

I agree with the previous comments. I think there comes a time when each of us who have had surgery realize that we need a reliable tool or we will continue on a dangerous path. I played with the idea for far too long but now at 60 something, I have zero regrets on any of my WLS surgeries. I would do it over and over to stay off medications, be healthy and less self-conscious. Good luck, we're here for you!

I did several times and no it does not depending on what you are eating. the whole point is to clear the fat off the liver and shrink it. If you cheat and are eating pizza, cheeseburgers ect... and they open you up on surgery date and your liver did not shrink, they will close you back up. Me what i "cheated" with was having 1 small meal a day. mostly 3oz of Sockeye Salmon and 2 ounces of veggies. Or 1 can of tuna. That was it. Tho you should try your hardest to stick to what your surgeon recommended.

That is really hard for me. I'm trying to limit it to Fridays. Though I may change it to Saturdays so if it's not in my favor I can be grumpy at home🤪.

I have VERY SEVERE bipolar so this was a huge concern for me. To the point that I did sleeve anyways but I did not find this community until a day or two pre surgery and I did not get the feedback that I have seen since then.
One thing I did do, which you may consider to help ease some anxiety, is to go ahead and try another combination of meds NOW. Pre-surgery. One of my meds needed 350 calories to absorb fully so I knew it may not work as well post surgery so while I was waiting my 6 months anyways I tried another medication. (I also started the immediate release version of my Wellbutrin because extended release meds seem to cause the most issues just so I knew other than taking it twice a day it was no different). For me, Just knowing that there was in fact another medication combination that worked for me allowed me to go into surgery with a lot less fear.

    650 & 200 questions??? Jeez...
I had my psych appointment last week and it was nothing like that.
I filled out a couple of papers and talked to the psychologist for about 20 minutes, that was it. She said I'm good to go and she doesn't need to see me again.

flavors... Torani syrups typically in the coffee section. They have a ton of flavors and on their website (Go for sugar free) Preserves as well seedless. also Peanut Butter powder goes great with the chocolate shakes. and Premier Protein has tons of different flavor ready made shakes.

Dont do a trial. It would serve no purpose. Its hard and has to be done before the surgery. That is the only thing that keeps you on the straight and narrow course. You just dont have the same goal line fear with a trial
Have some food funerals instead, I did

I did not do any trial runs, but I can say I had to do it. I had my gallbladder removed in April of 2019 in what was my very first ever surgery/hospital visit (not including ERs or urgent cares).
I had to do 10 days of the pre-op for the exact same reason as the bariatric surgery - to shrink the liver. Day 3 I remember being the worst part of it all. Day 1 & 2 you're thinking "I can do this, it ain't so bad." Then day 3 comes and you want to die. And then after that, you're just resigned to being miserable for whatever days you have left. 😂
I could only have 3 shakes a day for that one. For this diet I get 4 shakes a day, so I am hoping that it will fulfil hunger better this go around.
It's hard, but it's not impossible by any means when you keep yourself in the mindset that you are doing this for YOUR health, and that if you cheat or mess up it's YOU who has to suffer with whatever complications could arise (including having to forego laparoscopic surgery and be cut open). It definitely helped to keep myself on the wagon.

My surgeon didn’t want one initially, but after I mentioned I had a murmur as a baby he decided to do one in the hospital the morning of the surgery. Guess maybe I should have mentioned that sooner. We had time to kill anyways cause I couldn’t pee so they had to rush a blood pregnancy test. They really should give you a cup to bring home.

I had my first contact with the surgeon's office on July 2. Today's July 29 and I'm done with the insurance requirements. I fired off an e-mail to my insurance coordinator, who is super awesome, and she gave me the direct e-mail of the person at the surgeon's office most likely to answer my questions.

But it all feels very assembly-line. This is a major, life-changing thing and I don't want to [bleep] it up, but I'm afraid I don't know what I don't know.
