Why did YOU get the Lap Band?

My reasoning for having Lap band surgery is simple... To LIVE! I watched my father die of type II diabetes and obesity, my mother is also obese and has high blood pressure. My view into the crystal ball of my future was pretty un-nerving. The majority of my immediate family is overweight so some extent, and at this point I just want to be an example; you don't have to struggle and suffer in silence. Modern medicine has a more effective way to aid in weight loss for good. My family wasn't too keen on the idea of me getting banded, once I was and they saw that I didn't die or have any complications and that the band was actually helping me get the weight off; they became more supportive. The best reward to date, (yes even better than my own health and new outlook) my mother just got banded this month!!!! I am thrilled that I could help affect her in such a way, and even happier that she will soon be healthier and be able to be around to watch me, and all of her grandkids for a long time to come. -Rachel Highest weight: 343 Pre-op diet: -20 Surgery day: 323 1st fill, 1 month later: 298 Now: 167
  5. you are so beautiful and such an inspiration. i will be banded this monday, i hope a can do half as well as you, god bless

  6. wow wow wow wow! ur pics are great! any regrets??? any sickness??? did u have to have other cosmetic surgeries?

  7. I have not been to good at the exercising bit. I would pretty much just get on a kick of doing cardio for about an hour 4 days a week for a month and then lay off for 2 or 3 months. I have no motivation! and I won't step into a Gym, only Skinny already in shape people go to the gym... well at least the ones in my neck of the woods. I would love to be more involved in a gym but I just haven't been

  8. No, I have not had any plastic surgery. However I do plan on it, now that I am within 15lbs of my goal I have begun to research surgeons. It is SO expensive though, and my insurance has an exclusion on plastics. So who knows when and what I'll end up getting done

  9. Thank you!!! wow, congrats on the 30lbs already that's great!! you'll be so glad you had the lap band!

  10. DAMN! I hope I have as much success as you! How many times a week did you work out and for how long?

  11. you look less than 170! anyways your progress is amazing, i hope this isnt to personal but did u have to have any plastic surgery, sorry if im askin to many questions lol

  12. hmm, best eating advice I can give. Only eat when your body (stomach) says it's hungry. I know I got overweight by eating all the time, and a ton. when the clock said eat, when others offered food, when I smelled food/saw food. samples, the list is endless. It took some major getting used to, mainly because I don't think I knew what a true hunger pang even felt like. but now I only eat when I'm hungry, and even that within reason. If it is 11:30 at night and I will be sleeping within 2 hours, I still don't "eat" I may have a 2 pack of saltines or 1-2 oz yogurt. just enough to make me not hungry but not enough to give my body lots of calories to store up through the night.

I know it can be hard, people I work with bring food EVERY day. there is always some "community" spread in the kitchen. Ask any of them, I have not once eaten any of it as long as I have worked there. Unless I was hungry and decided to forgo whatever I planned on having for my meal. I do attempt to eat things that are good for me, but on that front I don't have much room to dispense advice. I'll admit I don't eat great, and sometimes all I eat in a day is carrots and celery. While they are good for you, your body does need more. I am not attempting to starve myself by any means, I am just not hungry. I have gotten to the point that food is not on my mind if my stomach does not tell it to be. Light to mild exercise will help jumpstart weightloss too. because even eating, being able to burn more than you consume requires your body to burn fat for energy rather than calories. Hope this helps. Don't get discouraged, talk with whoever you see for aftercare too. they may have some great suggestions. good luck

  13. hey, I'm not sure when you left me a message. I am new to this site, some people at work told me about it. I have not figures out where everything is yet. Anyway. I started at 343lbs, I had surgery in april of 07. Now I'm at 170. I don't know about "Skinny" but I guess in comparison to before...

  14. Thank you so much, I have lost about 170LBS. I'm about 12-15 till I hit my goal. have you been banded?
