I have started to take my clothes that are too big to my local women's shelter. And will start to buy at consignment. All about recycling! 😊

@corinne2022 Do you have co-morbidities? For me it was diabetes, high blood pressure, and knee/ankle arthritis pain. Surgery has helped.

On most days I just get a plain old Earl Grey Tea or Grande Decaf Medium Roast. But for a rare treat, a Decaf Skinny Soy Caramel Latte...yum! The soy cuts down on the carbs a bit, and this is a delicious treat once in awhile. Ooh, and over the holiday season they have Skinny Peppermint Mochas--another yum!
I used to LOVE chai lattes but I'm off sugar now completely (can't handle it, triggers me to overeat). Still haven't kicked the artificial sweetener habit though...but it's on my to-do list! Sometimes even a sugar-free latte can be a trigger for me, so I need to watch myself.

Skyr, a type of yogurt, this has been my go to Protein food item and has been for the last 6 months being vegetarian and all. I don't consume protein powders or shakes and get most of my protein from Skyr and other vegetarian food groups.

My golden rule is: Don't beat yourself up, but do take accountability and work to change it. I ate myself into 130kg. There were certainly external factors that influenced it - I used to turn to cigarettes in times of stress, and in the long process of quitting, turned to food instead. Got addicted to sugar. I have an addictive personality, so I'm prone to it.
I regret getting myself there. I felt horrible, and hit really low points in the year before my surgery. It's not a nice place to be. BUT - I did take charge, I did make the steps towards my last option to fix it with getting my bypass. I'm responsible for my obesity, but I won't beat myself up about it. We're human, we make mistakes, some of them affect our health, but there's nothing that self-flagellation can fix. Instead, embrace the steps to change, and cheer yourself on.
Your first appointment towards fixing yourself is a big step in taking yourself back - be happy with yourself for taking it! xx

Wow, you sound just like me about six months ago. It’s like I was living in denial about my weight for years until one day I finally realized “enough” and accepted that I had become obese. We all have that breaking point or lowest point that brings us to the decision to have WLS. I was angry at myself, embarrassed, ashamed and felt like a failure. I felt like I let my family down and set such a bad example for my two adult sons. Once I scheduled the consultation, I felt totally refocused and determined to make positive changes to my health. I even scheduled a mammogram (long overdue) and a colonoscopy that I was supposed to do last year. I made a promise to myself that this year was going to be a year of taking care of ME. I had sleeve surgery on 4/12/22 and things are going well. It was the best decision I ever made. I’m glad you are taking the first step towards a better YOU. You are worth it!

Surgery recovery for me was not bad but the gas pain for about the first 3 days was horrible.
I also had a hernia (huge one) and major damage to my esophagus from years of GERD which was also repaired. My surgeon said he basically did 3 surgeries at once.
I am 6 weeks post-op and no I cannot tell anything was physically changed inside my body. Everything works normal. Other than I obviously just can't eat much.
I also eat about 1/2 cup of food at a time and have light cheese or meat and cheese roll ups for Snacks. I drink a shake for Breakfast to jump start my Protein then lunch and dinner and usually 1 snack. (600-700 cals a day)
As far as what you can and cannot eat that is drastically different from person to person. Each person handles different foods differently. On top of that, every surgeons team seems to have drastically different post-op diet plans which may or may not limit what you are allowed to eat.
I was on and off the fence for years myself, once I decided to go for it I was full force ahead and dedicated like a pro. I have no regrets!
    Good luck on your journey.❤️

eosmomma reacted to Queen ApisM in Dreaded hair loss - question
I've lost a ton of hair, but it is thinning and not bald Patches. It is noticeable to me and my hair stylist, but not to most people. I think the visible impact depends a lot on what your hair situation is going into surgery. I had very thick hair, so while it is now thinner (and obviously so to me, especially when I notice how oily my hair gets after not washing it for a few days and also when I am putting it in a ponytail) most people can't tell. I'm now about 7 months out and the Hair loss has slowed. I just got 6 inches cut off the ends to bring it to my shoulders, and it looks really nice. So, there is a lot you can do to help with volume with a different cut, if that is a concern. My stylist confirmed that new growth is coming in at the roots again, because it is thicker there than at the mid-shaft and ends.
A plus side? The new shorter length and thinner face has people commenting on how much younger I look. I'll take that!
just edited to add: I always met my Protein, food, Vitamin, and fluid goals from the beginning, so you can do all the right things and have hair loss. It is luck of the draw, I think.

It is massively variable from person to person. My hair started thinning right at the 3 month post-op mark. I'm almost 6 months out now and it has slowed down some, but definitely has not stopped. I don't have any bald spots, but the thinning is VERY noticeable to me, but my family says its not visible to them. You can't control it, you can only do your very best to take care of yourself, heal well, and make sure you get adequate nutrition to prevent nutritional Hair loss on top of the telogen effluvium.
