  1. I've never experienced a slip but one would think it's like starting over again except you get to forego the crappy liquid diet stuff? My recommendation would be too just start eating healthy and track those calories. You've probably fallen into some kind of routine that isn't as band friendly as it should be. Accelerate the exercise routine and try to make sure you're at the -500 calories per day(caloric intake less activity level) benchmark. tmf
  2. "I am the odd ball" We knew that
  3. Twice a day. Morning and before bed. No harm for me. It's not discouraging if you understand how weight can fluctuate day to day or even hour to hour. tmf
  4. Distraction is one of the hardest things to overcome for we bandsters. It's so easy to fall back to a lifelong eating habit when we don't pay attention. I say this as I sit here with this golf ball stuck in my own chest. Put my omelette back in the fridge since I may not get to it for another hour. I wasn't really distracted, just greedy and ate too fast. Either way, not a lot of fun?
  5. When you eat too much, too fast, too big a bite, food sometimes won't pass through the stoma(band portal). This causes the small pouch to fill up and if you continue to eat, it all backs up(stuck). Being stuck causes your esophogus to create a lot of flem/saliva to aid the food to slide through into your stomach area. It can back up and you spit it out. PB(productive burping) means that sometimes you can burp(small regurgitation) up some of this stuck food to alleviate some of the pressure the food is causing.
  6. If exercise does create some swelling in your stomach, it could be interpreted as more restriction. But it's only temporary. Eating right and getting adjustments are the key to finding the green zone.
  7. My doc said solid food was fine when I had an unfill.
  8. I've used it before and it's fine. I stopped using it because you can accomplish the same effect and add your own spices if you just buy bread crumbs and spice it the way you want it.
  9. Marci(one of my early role models), I was very successful with Atkins, South Beach and the Paleo diets. Basically, your body needs carbs for energy and if you deprive your body of carbs, your body burns your fat supply for energy. it works, but for us carboholics, is so hard to adhere to. You seldom go hungry since you can eat as much meat and allowed veggies as you want. But, I never had the support(hubbie) as you have. It was difficult for me but I was successful and was able to keep my weight down around 150-160 for 25 years. Having kids around was torture(tater tots, peanut butter sandwiches). I still go back on atkins when I plateau. You can drop 10-12 lbs of excess fluids on Atkins. It's not a way of life though. Maybe give it a go and lose 10-20 lbs? tmf
  10. Your doctors are right Catlady, and so are you. You are not using the band the way it was intended. However, as long as you are happy with how it works and can keep your weight off, why rock the boat? But, if you're not getting the proper nutrition, I can see why the doc and nut want to adjust your band? BTW-you hijacked this thread. Next time you might want to start your own topic?
  11. Swelling can effect the band too. Too much sodium, TOM, too many carbs will make you retain water/swelling, band irritation.
  12. Aerobic exercise is good to do every day, but strength needs a few days off between.
  13. So, on the bright side, you do have some restriction. That's good news! Now you know why they say small bites, chew, chew, chew?
  14. You must have missed this thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/163617-omg-omg-too-much-and-too-fast/page__hl__alien#entry1922058
  15. Cynthia, about the shakes? I thought I'd be drinking a lot of shakes too. So I went to some health food/vitamin store and bought this huge tub of chocolate shake stuff. I drank about 15 shakes and couldn't take it any longer. They're not gross, but I was able to get my protein from regular food with no problem so I stopped drinking them. I still have a lot of it left over and use it when I get fills or want to go on liquids for a few days to jump a plateau. I wouldn't rush right out and buy the first barrel of shakes you see. Some of them are quite disgusting. Do a search on this site and you'll find some good advice from some folks who drink that stuff a lot.
  16. At my last fill 3 weeks ago, my doctor said that as time goes along, our stomach adapts to squeezing food past the stoma. In other words, that pouch has been a lazy slacker for years and now, because it's used so much and has to perform much more, it becomes stronger. In time you should be able to eat chicken again. In the meantime I agree with the others. Dark meat. If you do eat chicken breast, try to include some sauce like marinara or salsa? If I put it in a salad, the dressing helps a lot.
  17. It's probably both. More muscle mass and more fluid retention.
  18. Sugar plays games with your insulin levels causing them to go up and then crash down. This only makes you want more simple carbohydrates like sugar or processed flours. Sugar has no benefit or use in a healthy diet. They are empty calories. You should spend some time with a nutritionist. Cutting back on healthy foods your body needs for a sugar fix is not a wise choice. I do allow myself two Hershey bliss' after dinner most nights. But only at night and never during the day. Otherwise I'd be going back for more. Why are you buying $50 worth of shakes? After a few weeks you will seldom ever need them?
  19. I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. I started feeling restriction with my 3rd fill and after a consult with my nutritionist, I started to lose weight. Took me 6 fills to get to the green zone.
  20. I order whatever I want but try to keep it healthy. There are no foods that always get stuck with me.
  21. PB=Productive Burp is when you get stuck and burp up some of the food. Small regurgitation of food when stuck. There is no norm for post op diet weight loss. Anywhere from 0-50 depending on what you consider a post op diet and how long it lasts? Mine was 12 lbs for the first 4 months.
  22. Better learn to like it, it aint going away too soon.
  23. Just to add to my earlier comment, I agree it seems unlikely that you wouldn't be losing weight with the regiment you're on. The math says you should be losing. That's what I thought too, but I was grazing here and there and was not eating the foods that helped my band to be the "tool" it's designed to be.
  24. I would recommend you speak to your nutritionist? I too thought I was eating right but she opened my eyes and gave me a few options to replace the foods I was eating. Made a big diff for me.
