Hi everyone! So today I went to my 1 month post op doctor's visit. My labs were impressive - thank goodness, as I was worried. I have lost 32 pounds since surgery 6/8/22. I did not lose any weight pre op, in fact I gained as I enjoyed a "last hurrah" eat fest. I was cleared for all gym workouts! Yaaaay! Also, no more Protein Shakes as I now need to eat food rich in Protein. I am also on a regular high protein low carbs diet - 3 meals daily. I am honestly worried about this as my taste buds have changed, I'm never hungry, and even when I try to eat, I get full after 2 or 3 bits. This surgery has completely changed my relationship with food. There are times when I think of enjoying a large bowl of Pasta and chicken parmesan and feel sad, but that feeling is short lived when I look in the mirror or get on the scale and can say, the sacrifice was worth it. We can all do this!

This is a skirt not a dress. Let the giggles begin. Yep, the challenge of being short. I know a few of you will understand. A ribbed wool tube skirt at 50% off I was not giving up so when the desire is strong a creative solution must be found. 😁

Congrats on your weight loss so far @Mariann812. Whoo hoo! Looking forward to seeing more of your pxts.

4 weeks post op tomorrow. I’ve lost 31 lbs.
this has so far exceeded my wildest expectations that I am blown away.
ETA: highest weight ever was when insurance paperwork was submitted at 222. Got down to 209 on 6/8 day of surgery. Came home at 222 from IV fluids. (Can’t make this stuff up)
I’m at 191 now and FitTrack says I’m averaging 7/10 of a lb a day.

True. Good point and def no complaints lol. My office told me consistent dieting prior to the surgery making small changes impacts the liver just as much as a liquid diet. They only require you to avoid fatty foods and eat as lean and green as possible 2 weeks prior. Just liquid one day before. My liver was perfect doing that! I was super nervous that it wouldn’t be seeing everyone else on liquid or extreme calorie restriction lol

Thanks for sharing your finds. Is the Soup sold in single pouches? I’d like a Protein patch I could slap on my arm and that would be my day right there.

I have lost 30 pounds, and have 70 to go. So far I’m okay and the loose skin issue has not appeared. It will, but it hasn’t yet. I’ve decided to deal with it when the time comes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I almost feel guilty for admitting how easy it was for me to lose weight after the surgery. Yes, I followed the rules, but my pouch did most of the work for me. The first year is when your pouch (or sleeve) is the most restrictive, so take advantage of it!!
2 1/2 years out, I can eat a lot more now, so I have to be more strict with myself, but it's still way easier than pre-WLS.
So follow the rules, and you will do great!!!

My metabolism was crap before surgery as well from too many years of skipping meals. I couldn’t lose much on 900 & 1200 calorie diets in the past (like only 5kgs after 2 months - grrr) so I understand your struggles. A big benefit of the surgery is the boost to your metabolism. The surgery actually resets a lot of things.
Your actual rate of loss depends on many factors out of your control: age, gender, weight loss & gain history, genetics, existing health status. Then certain medications can slow the process too. The only thing you can control is whether you stick to your plan. It’s why we say you’ll lose at your own rate. Also the more you have to lose the faster you’ll lose in the beginning.
After my surgery, I wasn’t hungry or interested in eating for ages (into my second year). I had to eat to a routine to ensure I ate the nutrients my body needed. Still do. A huge benefit of this was it changed how I looked at food. That maxim of eating to live not living to eat became true for me. Eating regularly also helps keep your metabolism burning.
I’m presuming your pre surgical diet is a mix of shakes & real food??? Speak to your dietician about portion sizes to ensure you don’t eat too much or too little. Did they give you a list of foods you should eat or avoid as well? It’s just as important to ensure you are getting in all the nutrients your body needs before surgery as after - another reason not to skip meals. Think of this time as beginning new healthier eating habits & routines.
This surgery has been the only thing that really worked for me & it’s still working which never happened when I dieted before - lose, gain, lose, gain, over & over was my norm. I was almost 54 when I had my surgery but had no health issues … they were likely about to begin though.

13 days post-op. Had my second work out - dance aerobics. Felt great, can feel the different in my weight and lack of back pain. But after about 4 songs, I crash. The energy/stamina is not there yet. I don't know if it's lack of food, being out of shape or a combination, but can't wait be able to dance for hours again. But right now, I'm extremely happy to be dancing without pain.

You are losing Fluid and electrolytes with diarrhea. Try sugar free ice pops as Water may be exacerbating the diarrhea. Take sips of water if you do have water…tiny sips. Replenishing fluids takes time. Don’t overdo. Don’t go out in the heat. Be kind to yourself and rest. Maybe 1/2 an immodium? Also, sip weak Decaf tea.
    good luck !

Congratulations! I’m walking and running without knee pain, and it feels like a miracle. I am experiencing something similar regarding energy. I’ve had to be very kind to me regarding getting out every day and doing 3-4 miles. That’s just not happening right now. The heat is an issue, bp meds are an issue, energy is an issue. 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s a process. It will sort itself out. I’m not even 1 month post op, and I’m trying to be patient. Good luck to you!

I’ve lost 30 lbs, and I feel amazing! I had NO pain post op. No gas, no pain, I never needed pain meds, and I am not hungry. I could not be happier!
You are almost there! Yay, you!!!
I also had 2 months of pre-op testing for insurance and 2 weeks while they review everything. My insurance picked up 97% of the bill which was $70,000. It was ALL worth it!

Congratulations! I'm one week out from my reux-en-y surgery and I couldn't be happier. The pain is a lot less than I expected. I really only feel just comfort in one of my small laparoscopic incisions. It's like a brand new beginning.
