Starseeed reacted to livvsmum in Can anyone else eat more some days than others?
Yes, there are some days I can eat more than other days. Typically I find that if I eat a lot of Protein and very few carbs one day, the next day I have a lot of restriction and can't eat much. If I eat a lot of carbs or sugary foods the one day, then the next I am hungry and want to eat everything in sight. That's just the pattern I've seen in myself....

I had the sleeve the day after you did. I'm also having trouble staying hydrated. I've just switched to drinking the Gatorade for a bit. I hope you're feeling better. Also I eat Popsicles.

I was scheduled to have surgery in March and I was planning to cheat the system and work from home. My surgery was cancelled and looking back I'm glad. I am currently 2 weeks post op and return this week. I needed the time to get my mind together, rest, and watch movies.
I had vsg gastric sleeve and took 2 weeks off. If I truly needed to I could have returned 2 days later because I didn't feel too bad.

I am feeling so defeated, I feel like by now I should have lost more… I eat right, workout 3-4 days a week, I work full time as an RN in a busy emergency department 3-4 nights a week so my job is pretty active as well… I’m just pretty lost on why I’m such a slow loser. I haven’t lost anything since May, actually gained 5 lbs. I have met with my doctor and they referred me to a nutritionist which said to track everything and told me food wise I’m doing what I need to be doing and really didn’t offer much more advice. I do have PCOS and that’s always been a struggle with my weight but I have seen so many have success with PCOS post op as well. Has anyone hit a wall like this and has been able to get over it without having additional surgeries like bypass?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

First: This is my concern with people going out of the country for any type of surgery. Cut and dump. They get their money and that's the end of your care. I am sure this is not the case with every surgeon but it isn't a rare occurrence either. Unfortunately that is the risk you take.
Second: Everyone is different and everyone stalls. Your body is in shock, and now you are eating a fraction of the calories it was used to before surgery. It basically goes into starvation mode and stores EVERYTHING it can until it realizes it is not actually starving and this is the new normal. Your body will adjust, the human body is quite amazing.
I lost like 12 lbs the first week and then nothing for like a month but then my body was like oh ok and I started dropping weight like crazy. (102 lbs in 6 months) I am currently in another stall and have lost 2 lbs in a few days shy of a month now. It does suck but it will pass.
The bottom line is if you have a calorie deficit you WILL lose weight. The surgery helps you be able to eat less, resulting in less calories.
Try to stay off the scale for a while, measure yourself and find other ways to see the results. Smaller clothes, non-scale victories, etc.
    be patient, you got this!

btw - yes, you can absolutely stall after one week. My "three week stall" (which most of us experience) was weeks 2 & 3. Not a pound lost during those two weeks.

21 lbs in five weeks is very normal. We started off at about the same weight, and that's about where I was at that point
I think shows like "My 600 lb Life" give people unrealistic expectations about their weight loss. You have to remember that those people start off at MUCH higher BMIs than the average WLS patient. Most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month. So your loss is perfectly normal!
I went on to lose over 200 lbs - so the surgery works as long you're committed and stick to your plan.
Edited to add that almost all of us hit our first major stall sometime during the first month after surgery. It's usually the third week, thus we call it "the three week stall". That may explain the 2 lb drop over those couple of weeks (367 to 365 lbs). If you search this site for "the three week stall" you will find over 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding).
but overall, you have lost 21 lbs since surgery. Again, that's a normal loss for the first five weeks.

I don't think I could have done it.
I'm a little over 2 weeks out and I went back to work part time the last 2 days. I found it very taxing. It partly how tired I feel, but maybe even more so that I'm mentally drained. I work from home, but have a mentally challenging job, so I have to have a clear head. Now that I'm actually starting real food, it's getting better every day.
The other challenge early on was just how much of my energy and thought went in to keeping up with my liquid and Protein intake. I'm afraid that if I was trying to work as well, I likely would have ended up dehydrated or worse.

I have definitely read of people doing it. I’m fortunate and get paid sick time so took 4 weeks. I considered it a bit of a mental health break to focus on me so I could be on the right track.

Thank you all so much! I am moved by the support 💕 I just made a care.com account and found someone. She responded really fast and we spoke. She is OK with picking me up super early and picking me up after surgery. The hospital is a good drive but she does not mind.
Today is my say day 1 of liquids surgery is next week! I hope this thread will help others. I'm new here too lol

    Hi,
My family and friends have do not support my surgery they want me to do it naturally. I have no one to take me to the surgery or pick me up from discharge. I asked the nurse if I could take an uber after discharge. She said to try to have someone to pick me up. 😬Just seeing what you all suggest/ ideas.

    Thank You

Yes. I can have yogurts, shakes broths. I'm getting the sleeve. I was set on the bypass but my doctor was concerned about my Iron levels long term. So we switched to sleeve. It's next Wednesday! 😀

I see you've already gotten some great ideas and have a ride lined up. Congratulations on your decision to have this life-changing surgery and under the difficult conditions of not having a support network around you. They don't understand that WLS is NOT THE EASY WAY OUT!!!! It's just a tool to help you make the right food and exercise choices. It's not a magic bullet that instantly takes all the weight off overnight.

If they won't let you do an Uber, can you find someone on Care.com who could pick you up? Might even be able to have them stay with you for the day if you're concerned.
I'm sorry they're not supportive. Even if they disapprove, not being there to help you out sucks.
