What had helped me is staying within my Protein requirements, I do have a great support system. Plus it has helped me when I plan to have foods on hand that I can eat and not just pick at what’s available. If I’m satisfied, then the bad food around me doesn’t bother me. Or I just remove myself from where the food is, lol It will take some time before you build up resistance, so don’t be too hard on yourself if you give in a little, it’s going to take time.

    Hello!
Long time lurker, first reply. I’m going to be sleeved on 2/28. I had my EGD this week, small hernia found that will need to be fixed. I have a few more preop appointments next week. I started adapting to my new lifestyle months ago so slowly, so I’m ready, I started at 330 in July. I’m at 303 today. I don’t know how to put my finger on it but all my attempts at weight loss did not feel like this. I think I’m just over all the limitations I have. I have advanced osteoarthritis and I’m just sick of not being able to get around. I’m in Atlanta Georgia.
love this forum it has helped me tremendously.

My surgery is not until the 12th but I have plenty of bad habits before.
    1. Boredom eating is my biggest issue.
    2. Using food to show love. My family has never been the "I love you" type so I grew up on food celebration and over endulgence to make up for the lack of affection. My mom would give me entire banana cream pies as my Breakfast when I was little. Now I do the same. When anyone comes over I make a huge dinner with enough to eat on for 2 days.
    3. Making jokes about me being fat before anyone else can. It's my super shield.
    4. Going through depressive states where I won't eat for days but then also going thru them where its all I want to do.
    5. Having a fear that after surgery I will gain my weight back.
    6. Wearing sweatpants and black shirts everyday (literally wearing that right now).
    7. Blaming my farts on the dog.
    8. Having to not carry cash so I can't sneak thru the drive thru without my wife knowing.
I could do this all night but I think this list will do.

    Hi guys!

I’m officially 6 weeks post VSG. When I started the Kaiser Program in June 2021 I was 330Lbs. I’m a female early 40’s. Surgery day 2/28 I weighed in at 290. Today I’m at 273lbs. I heard a lot about slow losers on this forum and I think I’m in that category but maybe you guys can confirm. I enter the regular food phase on Monday which is the day I go to work.

I moderately workout 3 Times a week. Mostly in the pool because I have osteoarthritis in my knees that keep me from running, squatting or movement exercises. I eat no more than 700-800 calories currently. I get my Protein, Water, low carbs in. Make good food choices in my carbs & starches.

if you are a slow loser how has your journey been? And did you have a lot of stalls in between? I’m trying not to get discouraged.

Congratulations! I’m coming up on 6 months post op and I remember my preop waiting room anticipation like it was yesterday. I waited for 3 hours because the surgery before mine got complicated. So excited for you!

Thanks everyone for the responses. I listened and am going to work on this.
Yesterday I added a second Protein powder/shake, raising my protein from 60ish grams to 87. This raised my calorie count roughly 120 or so to 763. I also took in close to 64 oz liquids. I actually felt better during the day yesterday and my scales moved this morning.

Hello everyone. My name is Steve and on the 30th of August I'll be having my gastric sleeve surgery done. On the 9th I start my pre op diet. I've built it up in my mind that this is truly going to be a life changing surgery. I've struggled for much of my adulthood to hold down a job and have a balanced social life. I am currently 374 pounds and 6'2. I know the surgery won't be a magic 🪄 if you will, but I'm hoping it will serve as a catalyst to a better quality of life. I'm a bit nervous about the pre-op diet which begins on the ninth of July from the standpoint of how hungry I envision myself being. I live in Northern California and am traveling down to Tijuana for the surgery. I notice on some posts people are looking for a surgery buddy or something to that effect and I suppose I may be open to that. I rarely if ever post on any site or forum ( I don't use social Media) but reading many of your posts inspired me to say something.

I had doubts like everyone. One of the best things that happened to me was my surgery was cancelled 2 days prior due to me getting Covid. The disappointment I felt over that and, especially, the anger I felt every time I was still fat after the surgery date, instead of losing weight, made me certain this was what I wanted to do. No one can tell you what to do, but be honest with yourself, don't just give in to fear. I've seen very few people who regret the surgery and tons and tons who wish they'd done it sooner.

No you didn’t make a mistake, yes you did the right thing! I promise. Now you just have this to distract you from the thing that was making you miserable in the first place that made you want to get the surgery. So you can’t turn to that for comfort now.

Give yourself a lot of grace and visualize yoke healing. I walked, sat when I was pushing it too much. I had a heating pad which was heavenly. Tylenol was my friend, the one with narcotics in it lol I chewed on Gas X like sweet tarts. I loved hot tea, sugar free popsicles.

everyone is 10000% correct that you are going to feel amazing. Distract yourself as much as you can. I’m 3 1/2 months out and I love my restriction. It helps me focus, it’s reset my hormones. My cholesterol is almost 200 points down.

Thanks so much Arabesque I think you’re right I didn’t think about the dry part I think that me actually what it is. It’s not with salmon, or shrimp. I totally forgot about the dry part lol I have been relying solely on my chewing. My meals are basic now I don’t add much to them. I’m going to leave out chicken though for now and see how it goes for the week.
again always appreciate your incredible insight.

I have to supplement with 1 Protein Shake a day too. Even if I eat pure meat I still can't eat enough to hit my Protein goals unless I eat like 5-6 times a day and I don't have time for that. I drink a shake for Breakfast every morning and then eat 2-3 times a day beyond that.

It’s funny you say crumble. I did have some ground Turkey, rice and peppers and I was able to eat at least 3oz of it. I do like my restriction but it looks like I’ll have to do more of that until my stomach settles into normal. But I’ll have to supplement with Protein smoothies. But I like those Anyway. Thank you

I have just realised that I have joined the Hundred Club. I weighed my self this morning and forgot to log it. I am crying with joy at the minute. Last week my dietician said I was smashing it and now I truly believe I am. My surgery was only 6 months and 3 weeks ago.
Tomorrow I go abroad on holiday for 2 weeks. The last few holidays I put 12 pounds on. How will WLS help me keep my down wards trend I wonder ?

The more dense the food the less I can eat. I guess it just sit different in our stomachs?
chicken or pork I can only do 1.5-2oz but like crab or fish, even ground meat (like taco crumble) I can eat 3-4oz.
We are just learning as we go!

I am almost 7 months out and chicken doesn't sit well with me. Every few weeks I try it again but not yet. I am ok with all the other meats but only in tiny amounts like 2 ounces. Every month sees an improvement for me. I hope you get that too.

    Hi WLS family!
Tried searching for this but too broad options came up. Lately when I eat meat like skinless chicken I don’t even get a few bites in and I’m having a fullness indicator. This after I’ve also chewed it to bits as well and also well before I’ve drank anything. I stop drinking 30 minutes before I eat just experiment. I don’t FEEL gassy or anything. It’s been this way for the past couple weeks. I always had a normal appetite, my stomach gets pretty upset when I don’t eat but it’s like a total letdown when I prepare, 2oz of chicken, with sweet potatoes and or salmon & vegetables and I’m full after a couple bites 😞 It’s like my stomach is getting more restricted as the days go on. Is that weird? I don’t have any heartburn or burning. I’ve heard of hernias developing but that seems too soon.
trust me my appetite for sweets, bad stuff is also still very much alive lol but of course I want healthy options instead. I know it’s a dream to have the restriction and you might think I’m crazy but I do need to ensure I can get all my Protein & nutrients in is all.
anywho I’m 3 months out from my sleeve. Female, 44 years old, began journey at 330lbs June 2021, had VSG March 2022. Now at 250lbs.
thanks in advance and I hope everyone is staying safe.

Some foods can make your restriction kick in more quickly. chicken can be a culprit as it can be dry. Does it happen with all meat Proteins? If it’s just chicken or other specific proteins drop them for a couple of weeks & then see how you go.
Sometimes my restriction kicks in quickly. It can occur because I’m distracted & eating a little too quickly or eating something that is too dry or heavy in my tummy. In my first year it sometimes happened if I was worried about eating when I was out or eating with people who didn’t know about the surgery. So I think being a bit stressed & holding tension set off the restriction. You may be consciously or subconsciously worried about whether you will be able to eat a meal & that sets off your restriction. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Certainly worth a chat with your medical team. I don’t think you have a stricture because you are getting some solid food down & you have no nausea & aren’t vomiting. But again talk to your team.

I wish I can weigh in in only 10 days post op But I did want to say I thought I was getting in more liquids post op than I should but now that I’m weighing everything I’m really not. Maybe weighting what you ate if you can eyeball it and recreate it to get a better idea of how much you actually ate? So nice knowing I might be able to eat tacos again! Lol
