I was sleeved yesterday! I could nearly stay awake all day. Gas pain wasn’t great although getting better. Incisional pain is a bit&@ though! Whenever I ask how long things will take to stop hurting I hear the “everyone’s journey is different ”thing, which doesn’t help!

I suggest getting a compression wrap for your abdomen. There are a multitude of varieties to include standard 4 inch wrap that adheres to itself.

i was in pain and did require a trip to the ER a few days post op because the pain got out of control. I required about 2 weeks of pain meds and I’m on the road to recovery.
In all seriousness, wrap your abdomen and it will hold everything in tight so you aren’t relying upon your abdominal muscles.

Hi! I’m new too and was sleeved dec 1 - I’m miserable! I’m usually able to positive self talk my way through most things but holy *%#!!!! Basically I’m still having to stay in bed most of the time, going to sit in a chair to sip premiere shakes and Protein Water and water, and walking gently around the bedroom clutching my upper left torso to stop it jiggling around, which feels like I’m being ripped open. Today I shrieked like a lunatic banshee because I raise my left knee too quickly trying to change into fresh pjs. I’d love some tips for getting through this too I am binging Hallmark holiday movies and shopping on thredUP and Poshmark for smaller clothes in an attempt to stay positive. I spent ages researching this and needed it and I know this phase shall pass. I’m just quite keen on knowing exactly WHEN?!?! I think I was a bit delusional about how quickly I’d recover from this. It’s a lot and I can’t whine to my friends as I’ve only told one of them. Anyway, I jumped online today to find some fellow sleevers foR mutual support - it’s nice knowing I’m not alone and just think - we will all be emerging next spring like gorgeous butterflies…

My surgery was 12/1. Feeling better each day. I also had a hiatal hernia. That was a surprise but explains a lot of my discomfort before surgery.

Yesterday was my surgery still very tired ( so I won’t go into too much) but that gas pain is the devil!

I had to send a message to the “team” to get the diet instructions we supposedly “…already received at the pre-op class” but the class isn’t scheduled until Dec. 10, which is also just 5 days before my surgery. You’d think they might want to share that BEFORE the patient is required to start the 14 day diet. So, I get my Zoom pre-op class, diet instructions, virtual book, and surgery instructions just 5 days before surgery.
I’m guessing chances are slim the Zoom class format will maintain patient confidentiality so they don’t broadcast our names and faces to everybody in the program and across the web.

I'm getting gastric sleeve, my BMI is 38, and I have a 2 weeks liquid diet. You're right about every doc doing things differently! Thanks for all the info.

My vsg was nov 17. I can definitely tell you December app. that while it has gone well, there has been a few bumps in the road. Good luck on your new life and enjoy. Just follow all your instructions. No lifting! Lol. We need to let our bellies get to where they want to stay. The food challenge is no worry. Even for the holiday. I'm enjoying the fact that my stomach doesn't need much. Take care. Google is your best friend. And ask if you have questions.

I was put on a Keto diet plan by my dietician for the 2.5 weeks pre surgery & I was ever so grateful. One friend was on 3 shakes a day for two weeks while another was on 2 shakes plus 1 high Protein low carb meal for 4 weeks. Which ever plan you’re given stick to it. It starts the process of re-examining your food habits & making better food choices so you can take the best advantage of your surgery.
Good luck with your surgery & on your journey.

Pre-op diets vary a lot from one surgeon to the next. There are some surgeons who don't require any pre-op diet at all until the day before surgery. Some surgeons may vary their pre-op diet requirements by patient (for example, a patient with a BMI over 50 who carries a lot of weight in the midsection may require a stricter pre-op diet to shrink the liver than a patient with a BMI of 35 who carries the weight in the hips).
Count yourself lucky that your surgeon has such a reasonable pre-op diet!
