So you’ve lost 12 stone in a year? That’s outstanding! Are you still losing but not at such a high rate? I started at 22 stone and lost about 1 to 2 pounds a week and nearly 10 stone down after two years. It’s a long haul.

Giving an update. Been hovering around 1500-1600 calories for a few months and losing still but very very slowly. I think I will end up on about 1800 a day at 2 years out

it's hard to say. I would lose weight on 1500 calories (albeit slowly), but some people would gain. I've been in maintenance for several years (and have been hanging out on bariatric boards for about eight years). I know people who can maintain on 2000 calories, and others who can only eat 1200. You can always experiment with different calorie ranges and see at what point you lose, at what point you maintain, and at what point you start gaining. That's really the only way to do it other than the RMR test that someone above mentioned.
at any rate, 1500 calories isn't that much. Some people do gain on that, but then, you're pretty tall so I'm guessing you'd either maintain or lose on that much.
also, the closer you get to a normal BMI, the slower weight loss becomes. That's just a fact.
1200 calories is super low, unless you're short or have an incredibly low metabolism. Most people can't really sustain that forever. Personally, I'd give up the ghost on that one. As I said, even 1500 is pretty low for most people....sustainable, but low. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're gaining on that.
for the record, I can maintain on 1500-1700 calories. If I'm doing some heavy exercise, I can go up to 1800 or so - maybe even higher.

The only real way to know this would be to have your Basal or Resting Metabolic Rate analyzed. While BMR and RMR are technically slightly different, they are often used interchangeably. The tests to determine this are readily available in clinics and even some gyms. You should be able to find some options by googling something like "metabolic testing near me". Note that there are a few different types of tests used (feel free to research them), and some are a bit more accurate than others, but they are generally pretty close.
Alternately, there are online calculators that you can use, and even some digital scales (those that use BIA), that can also provide either your BMR or RMR. Unfortunately, neither the scales or calculators are all that accurate. It's not uncommon for those to be off by 10 or even 20%. Obviously more than enough to have you potentially eating too much.

    Hello all

I thought I’d put my first post up to encourage others as I’m definitely a snail not a hare with weight loss, but getting there all the same.

I had lapband surely nearly 15 years ago. Lost nothing. Didn’t work for me at all. Felt like a failure.

Saved up again and decided to have the lapband removed and a bypass. Wasn’t that hopeful due to my previous experience but was desperate. Weighed 310 pounds and BMI 45.

Surgery was fine with no complications. However I only lost a couple of pounds each week for the first few weeks. On about 500-600 calories a day.

As food increases to about 800 calories at week 6, the slow but steady weight loss continued of 1 to 2 pounds a week.

About six month stage I was light enough to join a gym. This made a huge difference to my mental health and energy. I took it slow but went three times a week.

I was now on about 1000 calories a day and losing (you guessed it) 1 to 2 pounds a week.

Sometimes I would lose 4 pounds a week but then nothing the week after.

I didn’t really stall at all. I saw other people posting phenomenal weekly weight loss numbers. Not me!

So here I am a year out and I’m eating about 1200 calories a day and losing 1 to 2 pounds a week. Lost over 100 pounds so far and feel fine plodding on as I am.

So my advice is, keep tracking food, when you can try exercising, and don’t worry if your weight loss is steady like mine. You get there just the same.

    And, I’ve never felt better!

I am 4 1/2 years out. For me it depends on what I’m eating. Generally, I can eat more now than after surgery. My surgeon told me to eat when I’m hungry, stop when I’m full. I have pretty much followed that. I’ve lost 125 lbs.

Anyhoo, my surgeon weighed my removed “material” and it all added up to 400g (had a TT, arm lift and breast lift). But i was pretty small going in with very little body fat.

I'm a guy and one of those "My 600 pound life" people, though they are lightweights to me. I lost in surplus of 500 pounds. I was told that I should not do plastic surgery until I was at a stable weight, which I did.
I had a abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). The skin taken off weighed about 15 pounds. My parents bought balloons declaring "it's a boy." Boy did I get some interesting looks.
My plan was to have a second surgery on thighs but issues revealed during the abdominoplasty made additional elective surgeries ill advised.
    Good luck,
