    Hello all,
I'm about 60 days post op. I lost 11 lbs liquid diet and 20lbs since surgery. I am feeling down because everyone around me seems to be dropping weight but me. I do the treadmill at Planet Fitness. I'm following the after surgery phases to the letter. I get 80 to 90 Oz of Water a day. I've lost nothing in over 7days in fact according to the scale I've gained a lb or two. I feel my baratric team is not giving me clear guidelines. I asked nutrition how many calories per day her response is don't count calories. Huh?!?!? My nutrition team keeps saying the scale is not a true indicator for weight loss but shouldn't it move some.....
I just feel down today about it. Someone help me out I don't wanna fail.

    Hi everyone!
My name is Anthony and I'm 31 years old. I've struggled with being overweight all of my adult life. I am just about 5'9" and currently weight 245 lbs. It may not seem like I have to lose as much as some others and a lot of people tell me that I don't look like I weigh that much, but I know that I don't like the way I feel or look. I have back and knee pain, especially when I am standing for too long. It's also difficult for me to exercise at this weight. I've lost weight in the past via diet and/or medications but it always manages to come back on.
I'm strongly considering the gastric sleeve. My only worry is that I did have my colon removed when I was 16 due to severe Ulcerative Colitis. I now have what's called a "j-pouch", which is basically when they form a new bowel out of your small intestine so that you don't need an ostomy/colostomy bag (I did have one for 3 months in between the 2 surgeries - first surgery to remove the colon, second to reverse it and make the pouch).
I've checked with my doctors and one of the colorectal surgeons said he doesn't recommend the gastric sleeve and a couple of others said their only concern would be having urgent bowel movements due to having less of a digestive tract, but told me to check with the bariatric surgeons to make sure. The bariatric surgeon said he thinks it would probably make me have LESS bowel movements since I would be eating less and the food would be moving slower through my system.
Wish me luck, I am having another virtual consultation next month!

Thank you all again so much!

I have to admit, I’m getting nervous as these last 3 weeks are dwindling down… last night I was up late reading stories that kinda made me worry lol… some of my worries are:

Dehydration from not being able to get the fluids in

Pain (although I have a pretty high pain tolerance)

    Ending up with GERD

Nothing crazy but very different. Eating is a challenge, getting enough fluids is a challenge taking supplements is a challenge. I'm struggling. I've been severely dehydrated about a month ago. I should have gone to the ER but they're full of Covid and the wait is HOURS literally. I drank Pedialyte unflavored, added grape juice, chicken broth and milk. It too four day to get through the vomiting and severe headache, but I still haven't fully recovered. I need to get a handle on this. I'm so glad to be through with reflux and the non-cardiac chest pains from the hernia, but dang, I want to get past all this other business!

    1. Did you feel the same way? Yes, I was not totally sure about getting the sleeve, but I ignored my doubts and went through with it anyway.
     2. Are you glad you did it? No. I do regret it.
    3. Do you have any regrets? Yes. I now have a hiatal hernia and GERD that affect my quality of life. The hiatal hernia came AFTER the sleeve - I didn't have one beforehand.
I didn't realize at the time that I had the sleeve that the shape of the sleeved stomach makes it prone to herniate, that if it does herniate that it can cause very significant symptoms even if it is a "small" hernia, and that permanently fixing a hiatal hernia after the gastric sleeve is not easy (hence many surgeons will tell you to just convert to a gastric bypass if you get a hernia after the sleeve).
     4. What’s one thing you wish someone had told you before you had surgery? I wish that someone had simply explained to me the problems that hiatal hernias can cause, that the gastric sleeve makes it much harder to surgically fix a hiatal hernia than it is if you still have your normal stomach, and that your quality of life can be ruined if you are one of the unlucky ones who has a lot of symptoms from it.
I wish someone had told me that there was a real risk that I might end up being forced into converting to a gastric bypass because the sleeve caused problems.

I know that pre-op people don't love hearing about regrets or the problems, but the truth is that I was better off before the surgery. Sure, I was fatter, but I was pretty healthy in spite of that and my weight was not affecting my quality of life.
I desperately wish I could go back in time and tell my surgeon not to do it. The surgery works for a lot of people, but some people are worse off after it. If you aren't SURE you want the surgery, and especially if you are not willing to accept the risk that you might end up with health issues that force you to convert to a gastric bypass later, then I would advise not rushing into it. Wait until you are sure.

I had my surgery on November 12. At first everything was going smooth, speedy recovery and all. But after a while. I started having issues with keeping food down, it started feeling stuck in the top part of my stomach. Constant neasua everyday. Im also spitting up this white foam everyday as well... And now it causing me serious depression im scared i wont go back to normal. I have lost 65 pounds since the surgery but only reason why i dont eat much its impossible. Im sick of vomiting everyday or the stomach pain.

Not to be cliche, but if you think you'll succeed or fail - you're right. You need to have the right mindset going into this.
I did very well with my sleeve that I got in 2016, until I started slipping and put it all back on. Five years later I got the revision to bypass 6 weeks ago and it's going very well again, except now I know what to watch out for and how to (hopefully) avoid the pitfalls of last time.
Believe that it will work, and do everything you can to help it work, and it will work.

Hello! New here and going through my pre-op phase. I’ve had 2 appts thus far and they are the monthly requirements from my insurance. If all goes accordingly I will have my surgery date by May 2022.

I’ve researched my options and the PA I spoke with at my last appt suggested either VSG or the Loop DS. She stated it’s entirely my choice and of course the approval from insurance, but I’m having such a hard time deciding. I’ve made a list , pros and cons, and while the Loop DS is more what I’m leaning towards, the effects are what worry me the most.

I’m take meds daily and hold my self accountable for them so I don’t worry to much about being on top of Vitamin intake. I just want to make the right choice. I have been heavy all my life, and I’m not getting any younger. I have a bad knee that I hurt years ago, so working out has been such a challenge lately, especially after 8-12 hour days on my feet. Any suggestions, kind words, info is always welcomed and appreciated. I’ve only had this app 2 days and have learned and read so much helpful info. Can’t wait to continue this journey and getting another chance on a better life!!
