SleeverSk got a reaction from KimA-GA in Those of you 1+ year post op….
My Biggest change: I don't make excuses to avoid going out anymore.
Biggest surprise: how hard the first 4 to 6 months were, then how much I can actually eat now.
Biggest challenge: not to drink coke and eat all my favourite Snacks
Biggest personal Victory: to many to list some small like being able to wipe my bum without feeling like I was going to do myself an injury, lol.
    Here I will add one
Biggest disappointment: loosing my hair 😫 and loose skin but the trade off is worth it I think.......I do miss my hair though and the fact my last hairdresser visit was not good is making it worse

I agree with Arabesque. Plus, dumping is not very common with sleeve patients. I suspect you just overate - or ate something that disagreed with you.

If you only vomited it wasn’t dumping. It was likely just bringing up the excess food. Try to stop eating before you feel your restriction - it should be the last resort signal. Same first feeling full. It takes time to work out all your little signals & feelings about your hunger, being satiated or being full as for many of us they’re different now. I’m a big believer in asking myself do I need this next bite or just want it. If I just want it I don’t have the bite. You’ll work it out.

Here I am after my shower. Yep, I can still see it. Pictures don't lie, I guess. I'll have to take pics every month to compare, and so I can actually see the difference.

Absolutely. That feeling of not recognizing yourself and your life anymore can be hugely disorienting, and can lead to really unhealthy coping mechanisms if you don't address it.

I didn’t even know that was a thing to ask. Sorta wish I had though if it determines the size of the sleeve cause mine seems to be bigger than most peoples. I could always eat more than expected and over a year out I still rarely feel any restriction. I eat about a serving of most things and I just have to measure out my food to keep portions small.

Before my surgery, my surgeon said “if you do anything….lift weights.” I lost weight so easily I didn’t think I “needed” to workout. My strict diet was going enough! However….I wish I had known WHY my surgeon said that. He didn’t finish the though….”lift weights because….your metabolism will dramatically slow down to a crawl to ‘preserve energy’ and your weight loss could slow - or stop, or being to regain - after a year or year and a half.”

Lifting weights and eating your Protein could preserve lean tissue loss and help preserve your metabolism.

I’m 7 years post op. I gain weight SO easily. I can eat 1/3 of the calories I used to when binging before WLS and gain weight. My metabolism has slowed so much. I no longer have the same restriction as I had immediately after VSG surgery. It’s a struggle to lose re-gain. I wish I had focused on preserving (or gaining!) lean muscle while losing fat.

Hey all, it's been a bit since I was on here last. So, I figured I'd talk about the appointments so far. I'm still pre op and don't have a surgery date yet and I more than likely won't for awhile. Which sucks🤷‍♀️ but oh well, we all know it takes time.
I had my first official appointment last month with my first official weigh in! They gave me a weight loss goal to reach which they want me to be in 150 to 155. According to the BMI chart that still makes me overweight, but that gave my that goal so that I dont get discouraged and its more realistic. My ultimate weight loss goal is to get down to 125. I've been overweight/obese my whole life and I just want my weight to be considered a normal weight, you know? Probably not a good mind set right?
I already had one of the classes I need to take required by the surgical team. Which was the importance of exercise. Which went great. I also met up with the bariatric psychiatrist for a mental health evaluation.
This week I have a huge appointment coming up on Friday. The appointment consists of a bundle of testing. Blood work, EKG, chest xray(I believe). I meet up with the nutritionist, I meet up with the physical therapist too (I think that is what it is) and after all of that I have a regular followup appointment to go over the bundle testing that day. So Friday is going to be a long day haha.
The next appointment after that is another follow up and lastly I have a behavior modification class scheduled for October.
After those appointments I think all that's left is another appointment with the nutritionist, another class and follow up appointments.

What are the appointments you guys have to go through before even getting a surgery date?
sorry for all the writing, but this is the only place I can really talk about it since I want to keep this journey to myself. Until I am ready to announce to people. Which that won't be until I lose a significant amount of weight.
    Thanks for listening!

its still early days, try not to drink your calories or feelings though, a therapist is a good idea though and I think for hubby too, have you asked him what it is about you having the surgery that he is finding difficult to deal with ? Can I be so bold as to suggest that maybe its your hormones too not knowing you age makes it difficult but I started hormone Patches after my surgery cause I just couldn't deal with being peri-menopausal and how the surgery was making me feel and it really helped.
As for your sisters I have a friend who I discovered likes to encourage me to eat what I shouldn't and don't really want to, she suggested we go to a French patisserie for lunch and all sorts of other naughties which I politely declined, then you get the friends that are at the other end and question everything you eat and think you should only be eating lettuce lol. So just do what's best for you and not to please others. lord knows its hard enough for us to make the right choices or we wouldn't be here right ?

I'm 4 days out from an arm lift, J lift, and breast lift that included replacing and downsizing old implants. Basically, I have sutures from about an inch below my elbow, up my entire upper arm, down through my armpit, and continuing along the curve of my breast with only about an inch or two gap from the other side. Then anchor incisions on the breasts as well. Apparently, one of my old implants was ruptured as well so took a bit longer than planned.
I'm doing pretty good - the only challenge is some tingling/loss of sensation in my thumb and index finger on my right hand (dominant). Dr. isn't worried and think as swelling in the arm goes down it will improve. Otherwise, I feel a bit like a stuffed sausage but not too bad! I was able to shower and switched to Tylenol today. Hopefully, the swelling will go down little by little over the coming days although I realize it will be months before my results are final. So far I can tell the arms are going to be MUCH better. Even all swelling the contour is significantly better. The "j lift" should mean no more skin pushing out under my arm from my bra, and my chest feels like its going to be the right size.
Once closer to final I'll share some pics. Too much effort right now

SleeverSk reacted to BAA624 in Panniculectomy worth it?
I had a full Tummy Tuck in July 2020 which was covered in part by insurance, as others have mentioned. Typically, the panniculectomy is covered when it's pre-certified, and then the excess fees to convert to abdominoplasty are paid out of pocket. At my very first consultation with my plastic surgeon, the first words out of his mouth were 'If I do just a panniculectomy, you are not going to be happy with the results. I very rarely anymore just do a panniculectomy.' He explained the difference to me: the panniculectomy is the removal of the apron of the hanging belly, or the pannus. The abdominoplasty goes a few steps further and tightens the loosened abdominal wall, and also includes liposuction. It also improves the appearance of the upper abdominal area and the belly button, as well as helping with posture and abdominal strength by tightening the abdominal muscles. However, in the insurance world, they are concerned with the functonality part of the skin removal, and the conversion to the full tummy tuck is beyond what is considered 'medically necessary.'
I am pleased with my tummy tuck and my surgeon is very talented. He works closely with bariatric patients, and I felt comfortable with what he was telling me and knew that he knew what he was doing.

I am doing a bit better than before ... today was not a very good day... not making very healthy food choices and still feel like I'm starving! My Husband drinks heavy so I've fell back into drinking because I can eat. He can't fix my mood so he drinks and I hate when he drinks and I can't eat food so I drink. I need therapy but I also don't feel it will work so here I am .

Hi all! I just had VSG last Wednesday. I was really nervous leading up to it, but am incredibly grateful that recovery has been amazing! Like...dare I say, almost seems too easy? I haven't thrown up, was really only nauseous the following day, pain has been completely tolerable without any pain meds, I'm down 5lbs and i only get gas pains a couple times a day. I'm hitting my Protein goal through shakes and bariatric Soup and today I even had unsweetened applesauce. Took me a bit to eat, but I had no problems thereafter.

I'm not complaining, but I guess I assumed recovery would be more difficult and I would be turned off by food (or thought of food) completely. So many people say how they have to force themselves to eat and it's just not my case. Has anyone else had a similar recovery? Did you still get great results? Is this something I should be worried about. I know this question probly seems silly..and again let me reiterate, I am fortunate and grateful to not be having any serious issues.
