    Sleeve or Bypass Regrets?

I had a bypass earlier this year and so far zero regrets. My weight loss, even with bypass, has been slower than average due to a screwed-up metabolism from years and years of dieting. I know if I had gotten a sleeve I may have had slower weight loss and more stalls, so I am happy with my choice to get the bypass. Since the surgery, I have a really strong sensation of restriction, next to no hunger, food aversions (sweet and fried foods) and I can taste things way more intensely. I can eat very small portions of junk foods like ice cream (1 or 2 tablespoons). Anything more than that and I just feel icky so I just avoid them. I lost my sugar cravings, which was the cause of my weight gain in the past. I hope those sugar cravings are gone for good because not having them will help a lot with maintenance. The only struggle so far, however, is dehydration. I have to be so focused every day on meeting my water goals. If I don't, I wake up in the middle of the night with the most awful dry mouth. Other than that, all is good.

Am I doing this right am I broken?

The first 2 or 3 weeks post-op I was so obsessed with food I would watch tiktok videos of people cooking for literally hours every day 😂 Eventually, I stopped caring so much about food and now 7 weeks post-op I hardly think about it at all.
  3. Before sugery I was a massive sugar addict. Then, when I was 3 weeks post-op I ate ice cream. Against the advice of my surgeon. I paid the price for that (cold sweats, racing heart, violent vomiting). Even though all that happened, I still craved ice cream and ate it again the next day. Afterward, I reflected on what I had done and I felt so ashamed and mortified with myself. But the bad feelings only made me want to comfort myself with more sugary foods. On the third day, something changed in me. I decided to just forgive myself for those 2 mistakes and move on like it was no big deal and consider it part of the learning curve. I threw all the remaining ice cream down the kitchen sink. I am now 7 weeks post-op and my sugar cravings have all but gradually faded. I decided that I will allow myself to have a small portion at the 3 months mark. But the way I am feeling now, I doubt I will do that. Forgive yourself for your mistakes. You are still unlearning a lifetime of habits and addiction and it will take some time to get the hang of it. Head addictions are powerful beasts. As long as you make the decision to try and march in the general right direction you will get there eventually.

    Trouble eating food after bypass

Hey surgery twin, I had my bypass on May 18th too! I struggle with sharp pain like my esophagus is clogged, right after eating food that's too dry or chewy. I find I am mostly still in the soft food stage. A huge portion of my diet is greek yogurt and cottage cheese, which I have to eat incredibly slowly. Literally one spoonful at a time and then a long pause in between bites to make sure my stomach is not going to cause any drama for me. I think with many bypass patients, it can be a long healing process to get to the point where we can eat most foods comfortably.

    May 2022 surgery?

My weight is also dropping slowly. I had my surgery on May 18 and did a 3-week pre-op diet before that. But I have only lost a total of around 32lbs in 7 weeks. I am not too disappointed though because I have an extremely stubborn body in terms of weight loss. In the past when I went on a diet, no matter how strict I was and how hard I exercised I would not lose weight AT ALL. So at least this slow pace is definitely better than nothing. I will take whatever speed weight loss I can get.

    May 2022 Surgeries

I had my surgery May 18th. I have had zero complications, and only a little pain on the first day after surgery which was managed at the hospital. I was tired the first week after surgery, but I have been feeling more and more energetic with each passing day. I'm also dropping around one pound per day. I am off work right now and go back to work on June 13th and I feel pretty confident that I can handle it. How's everyone else doing?

    May 2022 surgery?

That's so exciting that you had no pain or nausea and had such a great experience. Makes me feel way less nervous about my surgery with Dr. Gagner in a few weeks. I have heard so many good reviews for him. Do you have to stay in Montreal for a few days after surgery?

My hell week starts tomorrow (April 26th)

I totally feel your pain. I started my pre-op yesterday as well and have had a splitting headache that won't quit since yesterday afternoon. I am waiting patiently for day 4 when everyone says this gets easier!
  14. That is amazing progress! Congrats!
