I'm 10 months post op, and I can eat anything in moderation.
I'm also a pizza lover, and before my surgery I was so upset that I'd never get to eat it again.
Currently 142lb down, and can confirm I have not had to say goodbye to pizza 😁

My dietician said hair supplements & collagen DO NOT WORK! Stop wasting money & time with them.
Said collagen is empty calories. And on supplements, just because it says “hair doesn’t mean that’s where your body will apply it. Your body will use it where it’s needed & hair generally isn’t the priority to your body.
Protein is the ONLY thing that will keep you from suffering from Hair loss. So meet your protein goals as set by your doctor (usually 60-80g protein/day for women, 70-90g for men).

As others have said, supplements won’t stop your hair falling out. The hair on your head is already dead & was going to fall out at some time. Can’t stop a natural process. It’s just falling out faster because of the stress your body is going through. Supplements may make your new growth stronger but won’t make it grow faster.
My loss started around month 3/4 and lasted about 3 or 4 months. I was in early maintenance by then & eating more & a greater variety of foods. All you can do is ensure you’re getting in your Protein & a broad range of nutrients.
I agree with the suggestions of cutting your hair. It will take less time for your new growth to catch up to the shorter length. The clumps in the shower don’t look quite as bad with shorter strands either 😁. Shorter hair often looks thicker & bouncier because you don’t have the weight of your long hair pulling it down. You can always grow it again.

I realise that some folks are hell bent on long hair, but do consider getting a short crop. A good cut that works with thinning hair makes all the difference. When my hair fall was at its worst, I absolutely felt as rough as I looked. I joked about my hair having "gone to seed". Looked awful. So I accepted that growing any length would have to wait, and I got it chopped back into a short pixie and BAM. I look fabulous and chic, and don't even notice my own thin hair now. I'll consider growing it once the hair is back, but until then, I am living my Jamie Lee Curtis fantasy.

Congratulations on the weight loss. Hair loss starts at 6 months. Be patient it will grow back. A short haircut might help or invest in some snazzy scarves if it is really bad and makes you feel better.

    I wonder...
If part of the deal of losing the excess weight was that you would lose some hair, would you have made the deal?
For me, it would be a no-brainer... I'd have gone bald.
    What would you have chosen?
    Brain teasers...
    Good luck,

I had significant Hair loss and planned on splurging on a wig made with real hair for the transition. ShoppGirl was right about no magic potion, just time. Anyway, I found I wanted a change and got a cute haircut that flatters me and is easy to style. The cut hid the hair loss and I don’t need a wig. One woman in my WLS group shaved it all off, she looks great! Open your mind to trying new things and save the wig idea for a backup. You might be surprised in a good way.

So far after 16 months I haven’t heard of anything that really works. Lots of stuff out there will make the new hair grow in strong and healthy but nothing stops the accelerated loss or speeds up the new growth. I was one of The lucky few that didn’t experience Hair loss but if I did I planned to invest in some new extensions. I have had them in the past and they are actually kinda fun. I asked my hairdresser what to buy then took them back to her to teach me how to put them in. This was years ago so they have probably changed but I suggest looking into them. Mine just clipped in.

I’m 2 months post op right now and losing about 2 pounds a week. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. I’m fine with that. Pre-surgery I would lose the same amount a week on a 1500kcal diet, but I would be struggling mentally to stick with the diet. Now I’m having no trouble at all sticking to my Protein and kcal goal.

I'm just 2 months postop. I lost about 50 pounds preop. Since surgery, I've lost 24. I've been losing basically around 2 pounds a week. My dr office said that by 6 weeks they like to see 15-25 pounds....so I'm right in the middle there. But I get your frustration. I knew that losing weight beforehand would give me a slower weight loss rate -- but it's a "healthy" rate (1-2 pounds per week). AND I look at it as I'm 50 pounds ahead of the game. And if I didn't have the surgery, I probably wouldn't still be losing weight every week AND I most likely would have gained back what I already lost.

Exactly as @catwoman7 said. There is no wrong or right amount to lose each week. Yes, there are averages & ranges but treat them only as a bit of an idea of what you MIGHT lose not what you will. There are too many factors that influence your individual rate of loss & it will change day to day, week to week, month to month. Remember you’ll lose at your own rate & every pound you lose is a win.
Congrats on what you have achieved so far.

there's your problem - you're believing what you read online. Just don't. NO ONE loses 5-15 lbs a week from weight loss surgery. People who are on shows like "My 600 lb Life" might lose somewhere at the lower end of that range, but even THEY aren't going to lose 15 lbs a week.

the average WLS patient (and I am NOT talking people who start out at 600+ lbs, like on those shows) loses somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month - and then it drops to about 10 lbs a month (give or take) after that. And for lower BMI patients, it'll be even lower than that. Yes - you will find people here and there who do not start out at over 600 lbs who might drop 30 lbs the first month, but they are outliers. And NO ONE loses 15 lbs a week (OK - maybe the very first week when most of that is Water weight - but after that, no. It just doesn't happen).

I started out at almost 400 lbs and lost 16 lbs the first month. 12 lbs the second. And then around 10 lbs, give or take, for the next six months or so. And I lost every molecule of my excess weight - over 200 lbs.

You are doing fine. Readjust your expectations a bit. If you are following your program, and you're seeing a general downward trend, you're good.

your rate of weight loss is fine and perfectly normal.

I’m just under 5 weeks post op, and feeling very defeated.

I’m just now starting to go into solid foods, soft solid foods though, and I have days where I can’t stomach much at all, but my weight loss is very slow.

In total, including the pre-op diet I’ve lost 48lbs which is great, but around 27lb was from the pre-op diet.

I read somewhere online that the average per week lost after gastric bypass was between 5-15lbs, and I’m definitely not getting anywhere near that, but then 15lb a week does sound crazy to me.

It’s disheartening that I lost so much before surgery, but since surgery I feel like it’s been much slower, even though I can’t be getting any more than 800kcals a day, most days much less.

Has anybody else experienced slow weight loss this early? Did it speed up? Was there anything you found helped?

Go back to the liquid stage. There is nothing that says you have to do the purée stage. It’s just about waiting long enough for things to heal before soft food stage.
