  1. Hey all, Coming up on 5 weeks po and just started back exercising at F45. I definitely need a good protein shake post work out but I find EVERYTHING is disgustingly sweet now. Does anyone have any recommendations for less sweet flavoured or unsweetened high protein shakes? I have tried the atkins one 🤢, bodiez protein water 🤮, musashi 🤮🤮, Coles perform whey and pea 😑🤢 and unflavoured wpc from Coles 🤢, as well as the boomers wpi (once I got used to it, was kind of the best but still fairly gross). I just don't want to buy a huge packet and not be able to stomach it!

    Why no iceberg lettuce?

Yeah I'm 6 weeks po sleeve and the idea of those dark greens in my stomach right now makes my guts clench! I really love salads and like greens but I didn't tolerate spinach that well pre op so not sure how it would go now. I do like Kale in a nice soup though, but not raw or blanched, and it's not the taste, I just find it too heavy for me! Each to their own though!

    Salad!

Weird. I'm 6 weeks po sleeve and I tried a bit of salad today, about half a cup. My tummy did not like it at all! I LOVE salad and have been missing it but it didn't really work out for me. There were some little crunchy noodles in it, maybe that's why, but I was a bit disappointed. I'll try again with just veggies, but I didn't tolerate spinach too well BEFORE the op, so not sure how that would go now. I really like lettuce salads but band for buck I mean, better to have your protein right?

    Constant hunger?

Yeah I think definitely make sure you're getting your protein and water ❤️

    Ahh that's really smart, thanks!

    Constant hunger?

Yes it definitely does. I was exactly where you are. It takes a couple more days and then you kind of won't notice it. Make sure you're getting enough water too. I'm fairly sure the ghrelin is still running around in your system for a little while after surgery.

3 weeks po - how many steps?

Hi all! Just wondering for those who have step counts, how many steps do you try and get in a day? I'm 3 weeks post op and looking for a rough measure so I can work towards goals. I lost 4kg of muscle over my surgery and my dietician was not happy about that so much, so definitely gotta gain that back!

3 weeks po - how many steps?

Thanks @Arabesque! I'm sorry to hear it was a bit tough for you initially. I'm lucky nothing like that has happened so far. My surgeon just cleared me for all exercise now which is interesting. I was not super fit before surgery, I have Graves disease (hyperthyroid) and couldn't exercise much for a while, then I fell out of the habit and became pretty weak. Before that I was exercising A LOT and it was great. Hoping to get back to that soon! Yeah I don't know whether that number was right or not to be honest, but whatever motivates me to exercise is fine by me. 😅 I was 115 then I lost 6.5 on Optifast and a further 3.5 over the surgery timish.

3 weeks po - how many steps?

Oh there was a machine, like scales, but measures everything like bone density and muscle mass as well, by sending electricity through your body and measuring resistance apparently!
  10. Hi all, just wondering how long people's incisions hurt after vsg? Bonus question. How long did you feel twinges or a little ache in your stomach area? Context:I get that after I eat, I'm so bloody worried I'm doing damage and I'm gonna get a leak... but I'm seeing my surgeon on Wednesday. I wonder if he'll let me get another gastroscopy, just to check it out and make sure... My incisions are also still quite tender! Vsg on 18 August.

    Frequency of meals

I'll tell you what, when I lost weight pre-op it was because I ate 6 times a day, small meals and healthy snacks, and worked out. It melted off. Now I'm post op and eating 6 times a day, sometimes 7. Still early days for me but I appear to be losing so I mean, eating more frequently ESPECIALLY if your body demands it seems like the right thing to do. As long as you keep it healthy and meet protein goals, you shouldn't ever have to force yourself to feel hunger to get change. Fasting is not great for post-op people.
