oldandtired got a reaction from lizonaplane in Weight loss expectations?
Guys, I know how much I want to lose when I have surgery, but honestly, just the IDEA of losing 10-15 lbs. the first month has me giddy with anticipation! I lose weight very slowly, and as I have gotten older, darn near impossible! I have 3-4 different sizes of clothes in my closet, and won't have to shop ever again! The word here is have to shop, it does not mean I won't shop!

Yeah, I'm shopping from the clothes that were in storage from when I had lost 100 lbs 7 years ago. I had almost gained it all back by January, when I started this process. I'm down almost 70 lbs now (18 since surgery 4 weeks ago), and a lot of the smaller clothes are fitting again, although I had given away a lot so I bought some stuff from a thrift store and a few basics from LL Bean and a new winter coat from Lands End. My winter coat from last year is a 3X so I ordered an XL, which is my current size.

Well, I have not had surgery yet, but have started the process. Going to have the bypass unless the doc says otherwise. I am 68 (!) years old, 4-11 and 195 lbs. Personally, the joy will be be fitting into allllll the clothes I have handing in my closet!

Your preop diet may be all liquid but mine was 14 days of low calories with 2 days liquid. I was allowed meat, cheese and veggies on mine. Best to just wait and see what your clinic provides material wise to start.

I've always gotten on the scales once a week, same time of the day, same clothing. Any more often than that and you will get discouraged.

I think it depends on the environment you work in. I work from home, so obviously not an issue. Some people, like those who work in nursing or retail, may have rules against drinking/eating while on duty. In this case, it's best to talk to HR or a manager about getting a doctor's note to allow them to eat/drink while working. After surgery, it's not possible to eat and drink quickly, and you will need to sip all day to get your fluids in. If you have an active or outdoors job, it's even more important to be drinking a lot.
I'm not sure why a smoothie in particular would be difficult to drink at work, although you'd have to have someplace to wash the container so it doesn't get gross. I assume you would make it at home? Probably for the first few weeks/months a smoothie wouldn't be the best bet as it's too much Fiber and not enough protein; a Protein Shake is better for that (personally I can only tolerate the premade kind because the ones make with powder always seem gritty to me). I also am eating a lot of yogurt; maybe you will need a small lunch bag/box that is insulated and some ice packs which you can buy cheaply on Amazon.

Well, from what I have read, insurance MIGHT cover it. You didn't say if you had insurance, but if the skin is in the tummy area, and it droops, causing a rash, it may be covered. Big IF. but if what I have said is something you are experiencing, may be worth a shot. Good luck!

My "full liquids" was much like Tony B - NJ's, plus I am allowed to have kefir, Greek yoghurt, and skyr as long as it's not fatty and not got much sugar in it.

Hi! I am in my 2nd pre op diet stage right now. My surgery (roux ny gastric bypass) is next Wednesday. Right now I can have 4 Protein Shakes a day plus broth, sf Jello and sf popcicles. What has got me through is being creative with flavors. I have chocolate, vanilla and strawberry whey Protein isolate and I use sf pudding mix and/or sf syrups to add flavor. My favorite combination is strawberry with 1Tbsp sf cheesecake pudding mix, it is bomb!

My pre op allows 1/2 cup oatmeal, sugar free pudding, sugar free Jello, and unsweetened apple sauce as Snacks. Protein Shakes for the meals. Will probably use premier and fairlife for the shakes. I bought some isopro fruit punch Protein to try with Water in case I get sick of the shakes.

Pretty basic really. Clear Protein, Protein Shakes, Bone Broth with protein, chicken or beef broth, Water, gatorade zero, sugar free pudding or Jello, pretty much it....

Thanks, Dave. That's so strange...even in the Medicare book, it says a 6-month medically supervised program. I have Tricare as my secondary. Maybe that's the difference.
