  1. No need to apologize! Thanks for getting back to me. I'm now almost 3 months post-op and my acid is FINALLY starting to settle down a bit. Thank goodness!

    This surgery is bullshit...

Not really. I have under 100 pounds to lose but I'm only 5'0", so 75 extra pounds on me looks (and feels) like 100+. To the OP, you admitted that you're not disciplined, so that's your problem. The sleeve works if you work it. If you're not tracking your food or being at all diligent with your intake (eating junk, snacking, etc.), then I'm willing to bet you're eating way more than you "feel" like you are.

Do you still do 6 meals a day?

I'm almost 2 months post-op and I already eat 6oz in volume each meal, so no. I just stick to my main 3 meals, and even then, I don't eat breakfast most of the time.
  4. Hey all. I'm almost 2 months post-op and find myself easily able to eat 6oz of food in one sitting (I'm comfortably full at the end of my meals - not "stuffed" or in pain - but nose a little runny). I'm freaking out because I've read that 6-8oz is usually not possible until 1+ years post-op, and that at this stage I should only be able to eat 2-4oz. I do track everything I eat (I average 750 calories a day) and I primarily eat whole foods (fish, beans, chicken, lentils, eggs, fruit and veggies). No dairy as I'm lactose intolerant and no breads, rice or pasta because they're too filling and provide little value in terms of nutrients when compared to the other things I eat. Not sure any of this matters in terms of volume, but I just thought I'd put it out there for reference. My weight loss has been very slow but steady. Is anyone else like this regarding how much they can eat in one sitting? Should I be worried?

    Waist training

My clinic actually gave me a complimentary girdle to wear 15+days post-op for as long as I'd like. Not the same thing as a corset or targeted waist training, but I suppose the idea is the same.
  6. 6oz by volume, so 3/4 a cup. I do weigh my food though, just so I can log it properly in MyFitnessPal. True, I remember when I was in the hospital, just before discharge, I asked my doctor how much I should be eating at each phase and he couldn't give me a direct answer. It'll probably be the same when I see him in a couple of weeks. Thank you all for the reassurance. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm less worried than I was earlier. I don't snack between meals and I don't eat processed food (outside of the occasional protein drink, which I'm really trying to get away from), so perhaps I've just been taking in too much talk on WLS social media pages.
  7. Thank you! I will be meeting with my surgeon in a couple of weeks and this is definitely on my list of questions. I know liquids (including protein drinks) and purées slide through me like water so I stick to eating "real" food (for lack of a better term) as much as possible. I'm still losing inches so I'm probably just overreacting. lol
  8. I've read that that's normal. It was for me. Liquids and purées slid right through me the first few weeks. Once I started eating "real food", that's when the restriction kicked in.

    Runny Nose When Full

Yes, I get a runny nose and hiccups. I actually like having these fullness cues. Do they last forever or only in the first year?
  10. Weeks 3-6 are common stall weeks. If you're still stalled after that, then look at switching things up.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

VSG October 5. I struggled to get my bearings the first couple of weeks but now that I am out of the purée stage and (more or less) hitting my protein goals, I feel great! I do need to up my water intake but I'm working on it. I broke the infamous "Week 3 Stall" a couple of days ago so now the scale is moving downward again. Acid reflux seems to be going away as well after a 7-day treatment of omeprazole last week. All in all, I'm loving my new stomach and wish I'd done this sooner. 😍
  12. I know this post is almost seven months old, but I'm just wondering how you're doing with your acid reflux now? I'm where you are then, and though omeprazole helps tremendously, I don't want to be taking this forever (I've read horror stories about long-term usage of PPIs).

Almost 3 weeks post op and afraid to eat

I'm 15 days post-op and feel the same. I'm doing purees but I'm scared to eat anything beyond my homemade oil-free hummus. Everyone keeps saying "ricotta bake", but I can't eat that because I'm lactose intolerant and I refuse to use fake cheese products or take a pill just to eat something my body says I shouldn't eat anyway. I did try a spinach artichoke puree that I made which was delicious but so hard to digest that I'm scared to try it again. I honestly think we just have to tip-toe our way through these first few weeks/months until we figure out what works for us and what doesn't. I think it's better to be cautious, anyway.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

This is me as well. I had VSG October 5th and I'm STARVING. It's not head hunger, either because I'm not exactly craving anything, and nothing even sounds appetizing to me. The problem with me is I'm lacking nutrients and protein (dummy me ordered my supplies late). But apart from that, I barely even want water, milk (lactose-free and fat-free) or broth. I sip them because I have to, but man...blegh. I knew the hunger would come back but I thought it'd be months after surgery, not days. The liquid stage sucks. I'm definitely looking forward to starting purées next week.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I'm going in tomorrow morning (October 5th). I'm BEYOND ready.
  16. Hi Rachel! Our stats are almost identical. My VSG procedure is in October and I'm a bit nervous and sooooo ready. Right now, I'm looking into weight training so that I can get a headstart on tightening up my skin. Best of luck on your journey!

    Covid Test!

So I just did it for the first time today, and it was more or less what I expected: Uncomfortable but not at all painful. Someone described it as feeling like you got pool water up your nose, and I'd say that was about accurate for me. My nurse was very kind and I think she tried to be as gentle as possible. She swabbed both nostrils and the entire thing was done after just a few seconds. No pain anywhere afterward. I had to get this done in order to be admitted for my endoscopy on Friday and will have to do another one a couple of days before my VSG procedure. At least now I know what to expect.
  18. I love your posts. They're always so insightful and encouraging. Thank you. ❤️
  19. It's the best step any of us could take! ❤️ You'll do great.

Anyone Schedule for Surgery in June?

I know what you mean when you say it's nice to fit into clothes that are not leggings, as that is pretty much all I wear these days. Wearing nice clothes is probably at the top of my list of things I want to do once I lose this weight...even if it sounds vain! Glad you're recovering well.

    Covid Test!

Did you get the one where they go all the way up in your nose?

Anyone Schedule for Surgery in June?

How are you doing now that you've had your surgery? I'm in FR as well and will have my surgery in October. No liquid diet for me either. You are correct in that they do not do that here in France. We do still have to eat very light in the pre-op (no sugar, no carbs, no more than 150 g of lean meat, no fats or oils), but we can eat. I wonder why it's not the same in the US?

    What fears did you have?

The Facebook groups are HORRIBLE. Honestly, I don't feel like FB is the best place to go if you want to get true support in the WLS community. Though you can find lovely people in the groups, for the most part, FB is pretty much the gutter of the internet. I much prefer this forum and a couple of ladies I follow on IG.
