Removing most of one’s stomach is hardly “less invasive”. I’m surprised that your surgeon didn’t tell you that RNY gastric bypass usually resolves pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. RNY is still the gold standard of WLS.
  2. I also take Magnesium daily and Lunesta at bed time. I also take my hypertension drug, Losartan, at bedtime. I use a CPAP with a pressure of 13. I have a script for Trazadone also. I only take the Trazadone if I have not fallen asleep within 90 minutes of taking the Lunesta, perhaps twice a month. Before I started drinking 64 oz of water daily, I didn't wake up to pee. Now I wake at 3 a.m., 5 a.m. but immediately go back to sleep. As long as I can fall asleep again I don't mind early waking.

RNY is still the gold standard for WLS, especially if one is diabetic, pre-diabetic, have GERD or reflux, or are super-sized. It is the more complicated surgery, but also has the best results, and it does not involve removing most of one's stomach. Some surgeons do only VSG, or prefer to do VSG because it's easier. I'm glad you found one who does RNY.

    Food addiction concerns

I'm not familiar with any bariatric food delivery service. Post surgery you will be able to eat very little. This will continue for six months or longer. If more food is delivered than you can consume, you'll be wasting both food and the money you spent for the service. You really should learn to do some cooking for yourself. On Amazon search for "bariatric cookbooks" to see the variety available. Read the reviews and look for those books that contain "easy" recipes. Come on now--be brave!

    Food addiction concerns

After a while (usually 6-18 months), the honeymoon period ends and you can eat more AND YOU CAN RETURN TO YOUR OLD BAD EATING HABITS. You need to be prepared for this. During your pre-op and post-op honeymoon you MUST learn a new way of eating. For a sugar addict, that means abstention. If you return to your own eating habits you can and will regain weight. Addiction cravings must be conquered with abstention. It gets easier with each passing day. Yes, we all slip from time to time, but you must start over each time. Go back and read my first post again. Be strong! Good luck!

Yes, you should learn to cook for yourself. There are many bariatric cookbooks with simple recipes. Start with soups. Vegetable soups are so easy. I'll give you a recipe in a moment. My 70 year old brother has been learning how to cook and BAKE!. Amazing! I never thought he could do it. He's been doing a great job searching the internet for recipes and exchanging recipes with friends. You can do it too. Now, here is the Weight Loss Magic Soup recipe, only 57 cal per cup. It's filling and delicious. 32 oz chicken stock 3 cups V-8 juice (you can use low-sodium V8 or even Tomato juice, homemade or store bought) 2 cans Italian diced tomatoes 1 small onion 2 cloves minced garlic 1 package sliced mushrooms 3 carrots, peeled and sliced 1 zucchini, diced 1 yellow squash, diced 2 cups fresh or frozen green beans 1 can kidney Beans, drained and rinsed 3-4 cups shredded cabbage 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Salt and Pepper, to taste In a large frying pan sprayed with cooking spray, sauté garlic, onions, carrots, and mushrooms for about 5 minutes. In a large crockpot, combine sautéed garlic and vegetables with the remaining ingredients. Cook on high for 2-3 hours, or until vegetables are cooked. (I have made this in a large stock pot on the stove instead of in a crock pot, simmering on medium heat.) This makes a large batch of Soup. If you would like to freeze portions of it to use later, undercook the vegetables just a little. Pour the soup into freezer Ziplock bags and let as much air out as you can. Lay the bags flat on a cookie sheet and freeze. Once the soup is frozen flat, it is easy to layer in your freezer and won't take up much room. To thaw, place the bag in the fridge for 24 hours and then reheat. https://www.favfamilyrecipes.com/weight-loss-magic-soup/

    Food addiction concerns

No. Before I even met with the bariatric clinic to inquire about revision I did a two-week liquid diet just to see if I could do it. (It turns out that my clinic doesn't use that technique for liver reduction.) Liquid protein shakes and powders are very filling. They are not like the old "Slender" shakes in a can. I would drink them and ask "Where is the rest ov my lunch?" No, I'm quite satisfied drinking protein shakes, supplemented with broth, sugar-free Jello and sugar-free Popsicles. I won't say it was totally easy, but it was not as hard as I expected and I lost over 10 pounds during those two weeks. Do a practice run. Try it now for about four days just to see how it goes for you.

    Day 5 Post RYN Surgery

Just take it easy. In another week you'll be feeling much better. Keep drinking your protein drinks and water and try to walk as much as you can.
  10. Just keep drinking broth, and eating sugar-free Jello and sugar-free Popsicles along with your protein shakes. You will be fine. It's not fun, but it's definitely do-able. If your depression is more than situational, do seek counseling. Counseling and medication can help.

    Food addiction concerns

I've come to realize that I am also a sugar/food addict. I've read a ton of books, some of which I will share with you. OA, a 12-step program, is an excellent support group. I haven't joined OA but I know its out there and available to me. I had WLS in 1990, received no nutrition guidance, and was pretty much left to my own devices. I lost weight during the post-op honeymoon, but as time passed I could eat more...and I did! I regained every pound I had lost and returned to my original set point, where it stayed for the next 25 years despite a variety of weight loss program. I could never keep lost weight off. I only recently learned that my RNY can be revised. I wasted a lot of time, but I'm going to give it another shot. This time I have lots more information at my fingertips. Pre-operatively I have sworn off sugar, flour, wheat, rice, starchy vegetables, and processed foods. The first couple of weeks were hard but now I rarely get cravings or head hunger. I've lost 43 lbs. since the first of April. I know that abstention is the only way to prevail over addiction. I intend to continue with this post-operatively also. Since you already know you are a food addict, I recommend the following: Food Junkies: Recovery from Food Addiction, by Vera Talman Weight Loss Surgery Does Not Treat Food Addiction, by Connie Stapleton Why Diets Fail (because youʼre addicted to sugar), by Nicole Avena & John Talbott Baratric Surgery & Food Addiction, by Philip Werdell (written for the clinician, but I found it valuable} You might find Kay Sheppard's books relevant, since she advocates 12-step programs: Food Addiction: The Body Knows and From The First Bite: A Complete Guide to Recovery One more book that I highly recommend is The Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients, by Colleen Cook. I've also discovered that there a plethora of Bariatric Cookbooks now. My favorite is The Bariatric Guide and Cookbook, by Matthew Weiner.

Favorite Sugar free or alternative foods?

Forget snacks entirely unless they are protein or vegetable. They grease the slippery slope to regaining what you have lost. I speak from experience. I am approaching RNY revision and I will not make the same mistakes again. The pre-op food plan and the (clear/full liquid/puree) stages post op while we are not getting hungry give us the opportunity to establish a new way of eating. If we seek sugar-free or keto snacks we are merely making some substitutes for the OLD way of eating. It's too easy to find ourselves eating sugared and carbohydrate snacks and food when we don't happen to have the "-free" type. Just because substitute snack foods are sold on bariatric sites does not mean they are good for us. If we are wise we will ignore those products. Eat whole foods, fresh or frozen vegetables and fruits, quality poultry and meat products. Avoid sugar, sugar substitutes, wheat/flour products, and processed foods. We can get plenty of tasty food to eat with these choices. I encourage you to obtain and read these two books by Dr. Matthew Weiner: A Pound of Cure and The Bariatric Guide and Cookbook. There are lots of other bariatric cookbooks available, too, including some for Air Fryers, InstaPots, and CrockPots. These will help you learn your new way of eating.

I need a pep talk (rant to follow)

There are a ton of bariatric cookbooks on Amazon including those for Air Fryer, Instant Pot, and Crock Pots. I particularly recommend The Bariatric Diet Guide and Cookbook, "Easy Recipes for Eating Well after Weight Loss Surgery" by Matthew Weiner. I also like The High Protein Bariatric Cookbook, by Stacy Gulbin and Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook (for Dummies) which is a companion to Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies which every WLS patient should keep handy. I would encourage everyone to read The Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients by Colleen Cook, available on Kindle. Hard copy can be found on used book sites like Abe.com It is not a cookbook, but address long term success post surgery.

    Cabbage soup?

Absolutely, you can mix up the veggies to your own taste and with what is abundant. For example, I like canned "fire roasted" diced tomatoes or even fresh cherry or grape tomatoes. Two cups of this soup is only 114 calories and very filling for even dinner.

    Cabbage soup?

Here's the Weight Loss Magic Soup I've been making. It's delicious, filling, and has only 57 calories per cup: 32 oz chicken stock 3 cups V-8 juice (you can use low-sodium V8 or even tomato juice, homemade or store bought) 2 cans Italian diced tomatoes 1 small onion 2 cloves minced garlic 1 package sliced mushrooms 3 carrots, peeled and sliced 1 zucchini, diced 1 yellow squash, diced 2 cups fresh or frozen green beans 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed 3-4 cups shredded cabbage 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Salt and Pepper, to taste In a large frying pan sprayed with cooking spray, sauté garlic, onions, carrots, and mushrooms for about 5 minutes. Pre-op is NOT liquids

My clinic's pre-op food plan is low carb/high protein until two days before surgery. Those two days are "clear liquids only". The pre-op diet avoids starchy vegetables, rice, anything made with flour, any fried foods, any processed foods. It also avoids fruit, which is a sticking point with me. Yes, fruit has carbs, but it also has fiber and the body processes it differently from other carbohydrates. I've lost weight while eating fruit, but they cracked down on me, saying I was "non-compliant", so I've had to wean myself off fruit. I still don't have a surgery date for my RNY revision, but it is likely to be in October.
  17. Approaching corrective RNY revision, I've gone overboard in research and reading so that I won't make the same mistakes again. I had no nutritional guidance when I had my RNY in 1990. Left to my own devices, I screwed up and regained every ounce. This time around I've been collecting bariatric cookbooks, too. Since this is your second time around, I strongly recommend reading The Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients, by Colleen Cook, available on Amazon. If you suspect you are a sugar/food addict, I recommend Food Junkies, by Vera Tarman. If you are susceptible to binging, a good book is Never Binge Again, by Glenn Livingston. Plus sized spray tan???

In your shoes, I would continue to wear pants and long sleeves in light weight fabrics or sun-guard fabrics. Rayon is very comfortable in hot weather. I'm very pale and burn badly. I have been treated for actinic keratosis (pre-cancerous cells) and don't want to risk worse. I never go out in the sun without a hat or clothing to block the sun. I NEVER sit in the sun and always seek shade. Even my swimwear is covering. I wear bicycle-shorts bottoms and 3/4 sleeve t-shirts in swimsuit material. I've even got capri length bottoms but haven't worn them. SPF70 sunblock!

  20. There are numerous brands and flavors of high protein drinks, both ready-made and powdered. I find the plant-based shakes more palatable than the whey based. Try a variety of products. I never heard of the one you posted. Try Bariatric Advantage, Purely Inspired, Genepro, Orgain, Quest, etc. Walmart usually has a good selection or you can google search for "high protein shakes". ALWAYS read the nutritional data before buying. You want something with at least 20 g protein, and low sugar/carbohydrate. There are even high protein soup powders. I've tried the ones from Proti Diet, and Bariatric Advantage. Stay away from protein bars. They reinforce a snacking-candy bar habit. Unfortunately, they and other snack type food are sold on the bariatric merchant sites, but they are on the slippery slope to returning to old bad habits.
  21. Try a variety of brands and flavors, both in ready-made shakes and powders. I prefer the plant-based protein shakes to those that are whey-based. Orgain makes a killer Chocolate Salted Caramel, and Purely Inspired is good in Strawberry, Chocolate and Vanilla. Bariatric Advantage even has some soup flavors. Isopure is clear fruit-flavored protein powder, which I mix with Crystal Light or other sugar free flavored drink I.e, half a glass of one mixed with half a glass of the other. GenePro makes a flavorless protein powder that can be added to soup, coffee, pudding, etc. There is endless variety! Walmart usually has a fairly decent selection. You can order products online. Do read the Nutrition Data before buying.
  22. I regained all I had lost, too, but my rny was in 1990. In preparation for revision surgery I have been doing "no sugar, no wheat flour, no processed foods". I finally came to the conclusion that I am a sugar addict and these are my trigger foods. I have lost 36 lbs since the first of April. I intend to continue an abstinence diet for the rest of my life. These books helped me arrive at this decision.
  23. I'm surprised he advocates fruit juice. Most surgeons say NO fruit juice because high carbs and calories.
  24. Have you tried an abstinence diet, swearing off all sugar, wheat flour, and processed foods? in preparation for revision surgery, I have been following this since April 1 and have lost 36 lbs. I know I will have to do this for life. I started with all-liquid for 2 weeks and then the abstention diet. The first two weeks were hard, but I no longer have insatiable cravings. I recommend reading A Pound the Cure by Matthew Weiner, Bright Lines Eating by Susan Peirce Thompson, and The Success Habits of Weightloss Patients by Colleen Clark.

    Revision 318

Don't assume rudeness when none was intended. You did say "Surgeons office said 2 weeks liquid" which is easily construed as the surgeon's instructions. It looked like you were trying to avoid the liquid diet. Sorry we misinterpreted your post. Good luck with tour revision. I hope they give you very clear directives going forward. May I recommend a book to you? Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients by Colloon M. Cook.
