Esi got a reaction from SummerTimeGirl in Worried, not losing 1 week post op
It can be frustrating. I did not lose any weight after several days in the hospital. But I lost 12 pounds after 9 days post-op. So about the same. Now down 29 pounds at 7 weeks. So keep following the plan and you will see the weight decrease! Hang in there! 😀

Hang in there! I’ve had a rough time too, but with nausea and vomiting. Even though I still vomit once every few days, at 7 weeks out, I will agree with a previous poster that it does get better each week overall! I am able to eat a greater variety of foods, get in most of my goals each day, and drinking fluids has gone faster.
For the first two weeks, I was wondering if I made the right decision. Now I know I did. 😀

Your healing journey is unique, you’re going to be hungry, you’re going to mourn food, you’re going to realize you have to stick to the plan (no cheat days early on)…and you’re going to meet your goal in your own time.

I believe Mary Ruth’s has a liquid with no Iron. Zinc can also cause nausea as well, FYI.

Centrum Silver (and their other multi's for people over age 50) don't have Iron. They have them available in chewables and gummies. (Centrum also has a liquid - but that has iron in it)

I agree, it is confusing. I started off with items from this site, such as a bariatric Multivitamin capsule that contains Iron. I also got two different flavors of chewable calcium citrate from Bariatric Advantage. Although I was able to swallow the capsule, the chewable calciums were very large, gummed up in the back of my throat which made me gag, and tasted gross. My surgeon’s office recommended Citracal petites. I was able to swallow those.
Within a month, however, I had to change up everything. The iron in the capsule made me vomit, so I purchased a slow release iron tablet upon a pharmacist’s advice. This has been a godsend. I had to find a standalone multivitamin without iron, which I found at a grocery store. Then, The Citracal was making me vomit, so I found a liquid Calcium citrate, not great tasting but I can definitely tolerate it.
Do some reading, look at reviews, and start with a small supply of what you think will be good for you: multivitamin, iron, and calcium citrate. Take them at the start of a meal to help prevent stomach upset. If something doesn’t feel right, contact your doctor or nutritionist, and there are so many other options! Good luck!

Esi got a reaction from Luna Girl in No matter if taken after meals, vitamins make me NAUSEATED!
I had issues with nausea and vomiting. I used to take the multivitamin/iron capsule from this website, as well as Citracal petites. Vomited nearly every day.
I changed it to a Multivitamin with no Iron, that I take after a few bites of Breakfast. At lunch, I take a slow release iron after a few bites. This regimen was suggested by a pharmacist. Then I take 1 tablespoon of liquid calcium citrate in late afternoon, and another at night.
    no more vomiting! GL!

Good luck! I would say to be open to doing things differently than you were expecting, if your body needs it.
I had heard that tastes could change after surgery, and this was true in my case. All of the Protein supplements I had purchased and planned to take made me vomit. After a lot of research and reading reviews, I found one that works for me. All of the Vitamin supplements did the same. Pharmacists can be very helpful in this case, for example finding a slow release Iron pill.
Take notes on what you are eating for a while, times you eat and drink, times you take medicines and supplements, etc. If there is a problem later, it will help your team figure out what could be causing it.
I am still a newbie, but I found out there is often a stall in weight at three weeks. Mine lasted for 12 days before it started inching down again. Don’t get worried.

Esi got a reaction from lizonaplane in Fish on soft food died?
Our local grocery store bakes fish for free. Each week, I get 8 to 12 ounces of baked tilapia. I portioned out 2 ounces for lunch; it is delicious and goes down well.
A couple weeks ago, I puréed it with Bone Broth that I bought at the grocery store. I think the proportion was 1 ounce fish to 1 ounce broth.

Esi reacted to Arabesque in Does schedule get easier?
I’m sorry you’ve been struggling with nausea but am pleased you & your medical team have worked out a way to manage it.
Yes, it does become easier. The first months can be challenging because your tummy can be quite fussy & your taste buds often change so you’ll take time to discover foods you can enjoy. Plus you’re working out what foods you can eat within your diet. It’s likely you’ll be able to relax your schedule as you progress too.
You do get used to prepping your food & ensuring you meet your goals. You become pretty familiar with the Protein, carb, fat, calorie content, etc. of most of what you eat too so that is easier. Though you may find you feel a bit controlled by your diet again when you reach maintenance & you have to increase your calorie intake to stop yourself losing.
I still eat pretty much to a routine. I’m pretty careful about what I eat too & cook almost everything from scratch but that’s my choice. I don’t mind the routine now cause I don’t really have to think about it & it makes grocery shopping a breeze.
Don’t know what your work entails or if your employers know about your surgery but have a chat with them when you return about your need to maintain a schedule of eating, drinking & meds. If you haven’t told them about your surgery you can still tell them about your schedule. They don’t need to know why just that you have a medical condition you are managing. I took up a contract about a month after surgery & they were very supportive. I told them that I had a surgery & there were times I struggled a bit still with my recovery (low blood pressure, low energy). They never asked further questions. I think they thought I’d had some gynaecological related surgery - lol! I had a desk job & it was acceptable for people to eat & drink at their desks.
    Giod luck.

I would say no, it does not; however, I have always hated drinking (sipping really), and I am a spontaneous person who feels trapped by routines and schedules 😂😂😂. It contributes heavily to me loathing eating. I also hate that my entire day revolves around my next sip of Water LOL. I have to be extremely conscious of my Fluid intake or else I am up until 12 getting all my fluids in. I am 7 months out.
Sorry to hear about the vomiting! I’m glad you have a system figured out. From what I know of other people in my surgery month, the vomiting part does get easier and stop. Hang in there! You will forget all about it when you are 6 months out and a fraction of the size you were before ❤️
