I travel for work a lot and I've found that the 100cal packs of nuts works well - They pretty much stay in my bag (sometimes for weeks/months) and stay fresh. Alternately, many of the suggestions above are generally easy to pick up at a convenience store (boiled eggs, cheese sticks, Protein packs with cheese and salami, beef sticks, Jerky, etc.) - I rely on those sorts of things when I'm travelling and just need a quick fix.

PS - I wouldn't suggest boiled eggs in a hot trunk for days! 😁😁

I’m just shy of 4 weeks out, I grabbed a cheese stick for morning snack - but forgot to bring water🤦‍♀️ by the time I got home it was lunch time, so I went about 3 1/2 hours without fluids. Going to try and avoid doing that again.

Pure Protein chocolate Delux bars. Love them. 180 calories, 21g of Protein. Also...hard boiled eggs. Carrots and hummus. String cheese. Almonds. Chia pudding.

I'm sure there are plenty of bars out there that fit the criteria. I just have never been a big fan of those so I have no suggestions for you. Someone else probably will.

I'm still new in this game but when I get around to being more regular with my diet I'm sure I will prepare myself (when out and about or on road trips) much like I did when I was doing Keto and have individual servings sizes of nuts/seeds, a package of Dukes meat Sticks (I think only has 1 gram of sugar), keep a few bags of stuff like cheese Whisps, cheese sticks (gotta bring as you go), spicy salami slices (gotta bring as you go), Quest chips, celery with some natural Peanut Butter, cucumber slices with some cream cheese and Everything But The Bagel seasoning, pickle chips, Pork rinds, etc.

Beef Jerky. I never left home without a ziploc of it in my purse!

Esi reacted to catwoman7 in How do you maintain your weight loss?
yes - maintenance is/was new to me as well. Prior to surgery, all I ever did was gain and lose weight.
I give myself an acceptable range, knowing that fluctuation is normal (because of Water levels, how full your intestines are at any given point, hormones, etc). So having maybe a six lb or so acceptable range is good. The high end of that is my drop dead level - the point at which if I go over it, it's all hands on deck until I back comfortably within the range again.

(I haven't had surgery yet) I have been donating platelets when my hemoglobin levels are high enough, and I'm taking Iron supplements to allow me to do this more frequently, like every month or so. Can you donate platelets after surgery? If so, how long do you have to wait and do you have to take extra iron (yes, I know it will make me more constipated). I can reach out to the surgeon too, but it doesn't feel very urgent.

Wrong reasons? Are you plotting world domination and/or unfriendly rudeness to small puppies, kittens, or other small critters, etc.?
If your reasons are for 'assistance' with your personal health then you are likely on the right track. If you are seeking a "cure", "quick-fix", or any other "set-it-and-forget-it" type of solution, then you may not get the results you are looking for. (my opinion) As many say, surgery is a "tool". After being at this game of life for 40+ years, and going up, down (and sometimes side-to-side), I found short term successes and many things I just couldn't maintain. After trial and error, and error, and... (you get it), I learned simply: "if I really wanted to change my Life, I had to change my Life". Even with changing my lifestyle, I realized could really benefit from an added "tool" to help me maintain my progress and help keep me on track. I've been at this too long to revert and this "tool" would really help give me an added platform to back me up (even 'when' I slip.. and we do still slip from time-to-time). It won't work on it's own though. You have to be willing to put in the work.
If you've made it this far in the process, then you are seemingly ready for the commitment to improve your health. It is not a cop-out, short-cut, or easy fix. I hope this helps a bit - or at least encourage some reflection.
    Best of luck!

I add 2 tablespoons Benefiber to my large bottle of Crystal light each day. Good question about fullness! I was doing it to avoid taking Miralax.

Basically the same. It is frustrating because most of my life my weight was under control. The past 10 years is when things changed. Overall I eat well but my weight still climbs so I finally tried medical weight loss. Did not lose any weight which is why my doctor suggested surgery.
I still feel that it is a failing on my part and that I should be able to get this under control.
also afraid I will go through this and not lose weight or gain it all back like I have read about others

So sorry to hear this. I, too, had big issues with nausea and vomiting for weeks. I am still more sensitive than most people, I think, at two months out.
My surgeon had me take two different anti-nausea medicines, every three hours around the clock. I did this for a week. I also took Pepcid for about six weeks. I had a swallow X-ray test to rule out a stricture. I learned that Protein Shakes and some pills were triggers for me. (A food/medicine journal helped with this)

Now, I don’t vomit most days, and most of the nausea is gone, unless I break a rule like eating too fast, or drinking and eating too close together. When I do vomit, I take it very easy for two days and then my pouch is better. I have also found it’s easier to drink more at a time, the more that time goes by.
Hang in there, it is tough, and not everybody suffers from this. I have found it gets better!

The very few times that I had success drinking a Protein Shake after surgery, it took me an hour or two to finish. Very slow. I have found much better luck filling a 24 oz. water bottle, adding a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder (Genepro is the only one that doesn’t make me nauseous), Crystal Light, and drinking over a few hours.
And to another comment, my nutritionist told me vomiting isn’t normal after surgery.

Hang in there! I’ve had a rough time too, but with nausea and vomiting. Even though I still vomit once every few days, at 7 weeks out, I will agree with a previous poster that it does get better each week overall! I am able to eat a greater variety of foods, get in most of my goals each day, and drinking fluids has gone faster.
For the first two weeks, I was wondering if I made the right decision. Now I know I did. 😀

Relax. You're fine. You're in a marathon not a spring and no one does it perfectly. Feeling like crap the first month is normal. I had no energy and was in a brain fog.
Think about what the most important thing is that you're missing and focus on just that goal. Do you need more Protein? Are you dehydrated? Take it one step at a time.
Also unless you are doing something incredibly stupid like forcing yourself to eat a whole pizza you cannot ruin anything in 4 weeks.

Esi got a reaction from Sarahgirl10 in What's your best post op advice?
Gosh, all of the above advice is amazing and I agree with it! I will add:
-Make a decision on who you will tell about the surgery. It’s your private health information and you are under no obligation to tell anyone, unless you want to.

-Have a plan for how to react to people who comment on weight loss. The first time someone said I looked wonderful (while giving me a once over), it took me by surprise. (And comments are another discussion…everyone feels differently being noticed.)
-Prepare for eating differently around others (colleagues, family/friends). Will you bring your own food if there is a lunch provided at work? Will you change what you cook for family holidays?

-Get your household on board with reducing treats in the house. If they won’t, ask them to keep treats in places that you don’t see easily. (as someone else wrote, you may mourn some of the foods that you should no longer eat… Sometimes it’s best not to be reminded of them)
-If you do the Family cooking, start preparing recipes that are healthy for the sleeve (for example, High Protein and no added sugar). At least with my family, if they want something else, they have to cook it themselves. 😀

My Vitamins don’t bother me, but we were told no gummies. Some people use Flintstone chewables but they’re a bit lacking in daily values. Try BariatricAdvantage or Celebrate Vitamins.

It can be frustrating. I did not lose any weight after several days in the hospital. But I lost 12 pounds after 9 days post-op. So about the same. Now down 29 pounds at 7 weeks. So keep following the plan and you will see the weight decrease! Hang in there! 😀
