That’s what the surgeon is there for and he needs to be aware of your feelings as there needs to be more support PreOp and an explanation. I was able to choose what I was having PreOp and I wasn’t even told to have shakes I chose to. Speak to your surgeon

@brightly @Shop Girl I agree - my surgeon said I could have MyProtein shakes etc my Dietitian said no. I messaged her with the comparisons of everything and she said it’s fine. My surgeon said I’ve obviously done my research and asked questions which was his guidance so he knows I’m not going to go off track….. my PreOp was high protein low carbs low fat and my post off was clear liquids and then full liquids which I’ve struggled with and to get the fluids in. Yes everyone has a different experience but speak to your surgeon as they will know what’s best and they ultimately know more and are more supportive

My post Op is just soups and liquids. I’m finding the shakes sweeter than before and yesterday I struggled to drink 200ml and only drank 150ml. Soups I’m okay with but again struggling with flavours etc

My PreOp was food - high protein low carbs. I wouldn’t worry as the whole process is to shrink and soften your liver. Mention to your doctor or say nothing. A friend who did Bariatric said she didn’t stick to hers and it still happened. I had a chicken burger and french fries with a soft drink a couple of days before my surgery and my liver had shrunk and there were no complications and my dr said they didn’t need the tool to lift they could use a stitch xx hope this helps

Thank you ❤️ Tomorrow I’m moving onto the protein drinks so hopefully will be able to get fluids in. I did find PreSurgery drinking the protein water sachets but using more water helped.

Spoke to my dietitian - she has said which ones to avoid and why and that they all seem to be similar etc so should be okay. As everything will be exported and with a recent announcement of buying local Ive got to either buy through Amazon or use a company registered within the country.

Yeah I’ve thought about that. I actually messaged my Dietitian a couple of days ago and she asked me to send the details of different powders . She has said which ones I can have etc but also said once I move through stages making my own food is better. issue for me is - delivery from overseas and things exported in are overly priced 🙉🙈🙊 like one box of powders is almost $55 I am going to get sample sizes ready xx

I’m researching all the things I’ll need so I have in the house ready. I finish school on Thursday July 1st then have a weekend with my sons before the surgery on July 4th.... LRD begins June 20th - The Dietitian has said my LrD will be meal based so trying to work out how to calculate protein etc so I don’t go wrong - she said I shouldn’t do any shakes and 3meals a day which is going to be a nightmare already trying to get the fluid intake in when no bottles are allowed in the class she also said My Protein is not approved by Dept of health where I am and pushing for me to buy Optifast (reminds me of Slimfast In the uk 🤮🤢) plus is $50 per box/pack and if I don’t like then it’s a waste of money I want to start meal prep so I’ll only have to be preparing meals for my children and husband after surgery and not cooking meals for myself and them excited but stressing out as I’d planned everything then the dietitian put a spanner in the works

Provisionally booked for July 4th - saw my surgeon today and that’s the date we agreed upon now to wait and see if the approval comes through.

    Pre-op is NOT liquids

Yes actually wanted to look for this information as I went for my surgeon appointment as well as Psych and Dietitian today.... The Dietitian said the same as yours regulars meals and I’d planned and researched etc to then hit a wall and feel very down and low.
  20. Hi All, I have been on a weight loss journey for a while and finally decided that I want to go the bariatric surgery route. Right now I’m thinking more about the vertical sleeve as the pros and cons are better than the gastric bypass. I’ve been told by my Doctor he doesn’t do the gastric banding as the cons far outweigh anything else and it has a bigger chance of failing or just not working properly. He will do it if I push for it but has said the number around the world is very small due to the complications I have been told to consider the Bypass or the sleeve. For those that have done either one do you regret not doing the other? I have had all my tests done - cardiologist, gastrointestinal, ultrasounds, dietitian and psychologist with another appointment with my surgeon and the psychologist and dietitian in 10days again before the paperwork gets sent to my insurance company for approval. I want to go into the surgeon with an open mind but a decision on which surgery I want to do. I’m planning on doing the surgery in July when school is out (I’ve just got a temporary job for 2months) Those that have done surgery is there anything you recommend I should do before surgery? Is there anything you wished you had done before surgery? is recovery really difficult? I’ve not told 99% of my friends or family, my husband and a close friend then a friend I know that has been through bariatric surgery. I just feel that some people can be judgemental or just mean so I’m choosing to say nothing. thank you all for your help and support K
